Nice to see the Radiant Hope situation got handled somewhat peacefully and the John x Luna interactions literally give me life great chapter pumped to see what happens next and how John will handle the yaks.
I wonder how Candance and Shining will react to a friendly changeling tribe
or if the king can convince candy to help them, you'd think that a species that needs love to survive would ask help from the one being that is the literal embodiment of the emotion
This chapter feels disjointed. It reads like you're trying to faithfully reproduce the outcome of a game as first priority, rather than trying to create a good story as first priority.
10727646
Nah, story is first priority. The reason why it felt disjointed is, I believe, that I didn't write properly the sudden development with the yaks and the dialogue with Apocrita. I will revise both instances as soon as I have more free time.
10727674
I got to agree with Lord, and with your own reasoning. We've had no warning of the Yaks, they just literally popped into existance out of no where, and just when ending one Conflict. And the same with the Changeling Queen. John was talking with Radiant, defusing her beliefs, and then suddenly he's talking with the Changeling, and boom, not even a paragraph later it's all ignored and now onto the Yaks.
You didn't actually Resolve the issue with Radiant, the Changelings still had the upper hand, the guards were out, and Radiant was still set in her beliefs. The conflict with her wasn't Resolved. And then he asked the Changelings for a Treaty of Friendship, and then bam the rest ignored and we don't here her response or anything else about it, it was never resolved.
That's what, for me, caused all the Disjointedness. You brought up Conflicts or Interests, and then just never resolved them, as if you just skipped writing the story and moved on to a sudden time jump for no reason.
Never did like them. Kick their butts good and hard!
Okay I think everybody already said how disjointed this chapter was so I just gonna skip this one and go to the next problem, that is, for what you told me in one of the comments John did play EaW so how is it possible for him to not know about Sombra supporters even if he never played the Sombra path he surely must have known about Sombra Scare national spirit, so please tell me why did he not know anything!
And then there is the whole negotiations, John is completely at their mercy and he just ask them to surrender and they just say OK, WTF, either John is the best businessman and negotiator in history or queen Apocrita is the biggest idiot I ever seen .

I agree with this. This feels like the chapter should have been broken up in two, one properly dealing with Radiant Hope and the Changelings, and then another with the start of the war with the yaks. As it is the plot thread of Radiant Hope and Apocrita just feels shoved under the rug.

1) Not all playthrough ends up with Sombra returning or even Radiant Hope coming up. Plus, one issue is that John never played the Crystal Empire. It's rare for people to play with a puppet nation if there isn't a good enough reason to do so. He just never bothered to do anything about it until that moment. Equestria? Yes. Stalliongrad? Way too many times. Crystal Empire? Nope. There are just so many nations to play with and there will be more once Zebrica is introduced;
2) You completely failed to grasp one issue with that 'control' they had in the 'negotiation'. While it was true that they had the tactical upper hand, they didn't have the strategic one. Apocrita is someone that expected to get a quick and easy win to secure a powerful ally with Sombra... if Sombra proved to be a good pony compared to Chrysalis. Mind that while Equestria is well-aware of Sombra's terrible deeds, the news are that well-spread in the Changeling Lands and that left her clueless about the monarch's own cruelty. She trusted someone that offered her a chance to survive a Purge of impressive dimensions and she made a gamble. The gamble failed the moment she learned that victory wasn't sudden, her ally was unreliable and the ones that screwed with Chrysalis' plans lived within the city just a few minutes away from the palace. I don't see the advantage of taking a monarch under hostage when you are outnumbered, there is magic and they can be beated soundly. John offered the way out without causing an escalation, a way out that was mostly guarantee and driven by safety and a genuine treaty. Sometimes not all terrorists are suicidal.
Careful Luna, you are shaking a hornets nest when pulling a prank on humans, if we get our minds to it, we can get along with Discord just fine.
Well I'm sure John will not put dynamite on her bed, but still be careful. Also good move John, in case of emergency just hug. But if you really wish her to forgive her, surprise kiss. It always work with Shadow, if upset one clean kiss and no matter how much she tries she can't stay mad for too long.

Even if he never played the nation he should still no about
Sombra Scare national spirit you say he played equestria some of equestria's focus trees are about destroying Sombra scare so he should have at least a little about it.
By the way thanks for taking my advise about yaks😉
(You know, playing as The Crystal Empire is one of my absolute favorites? In fact, I find most of the Griffon nations to not meet my specific tastes, and the stylistics of The Crystal Empire appeal greatly to me... specifically, I like to do Harmony playthroughs with them. Of course, that implies a degree of success. We usually handle the Changeling war well enough. The Griffonian Empire on the other hand... well... let's just say that I have a zero win record when they form.
In the meantime, good to see John handling things diplomatically, Good King John is doing a good job! In an extremely difficult position, so, y'know, goodness to him! I like seeing the politicizing, prepping for battle and war, modern weaponry development, and all those lovely things... military reorganization and development's going to need to become one massive priority... especially with Changelings having so easily infiltrated and beaten up his guards.)
So, idiots. Sounds about right.
Sadly.
Maybe for the best.
Good idea.
There it is.
Ah nuts.
He's got you there.
Be that as it may, Freudian Excuse Is No Exuse.
Apocrita. Wonder if that's a bug part?
Oh she done goofed.
Go on...
Ah, so, they weren't loyalists, they just didn't know any better.
Ah crapbaskets.
Hm, still, an attack is an attack.
Oh dear.
That would be a real bad idea.
That could work.
If someone as volatile as him is benevolent, I shudder to find out what malevolent would be.
I'm very curious ass to why.
Fair point.
Oh dear.

Nah sorry. I don't do that kind of in-depth modern political stuff in my stories. I prefer to avoid the heat.
10728190
Then its just my crazy associative brain seeing things that aren´t there.
Sorry for That.

Unless the author decides to take the Racist (Spiciest?) route with them, I don’t see them having an issue. Cadance and shining armor never really seemed to have an issue with Changelings in General, just chrysalis and her host/hive.
You can see that in their interactions with Thorax, as he was once part of Chrysalis hive, they were unwilling to really trust him to begin with.
I have seen many authors make the Chrystal Couple Racist and it never made sense to me, I always thought they missed the point but that’s just me.
Okay, latest chapter has been revised and 600~ words have been added. I can't say if this is a perfect fix, but I believe I altered the pace just enough to lessen the disjointment. If the changes don't appear, I would suggest to refresh the page and check after that.
Hmmm.....from what I remember the yaks don't have magic. I don't think the yaks have siege weapons since it's not the full army, and siege weapons are usually aren't carried with the army, except maybe small catapults. I don't know if the yaks have ranged weapons, but If they do then its probably some type of long bow? I dont really see them with crossbows. I know for certain they don't have any sort of air force. The only advantages that the yaks have that I can think of are more experience, being stronger and tougher.
Now as for John, I don't know/remember if he has any siege weapons or crossbows, or maybe even bows. I am fairly certain that he has unicorns in the army, so he will have a range and versatility advantage. John is the defendant, so knowledge of the battlefield and surroundings is an advantage he has. I believe that he has pegasi, so he could drop debris or bombs on the yaks. Unfortunately his army is less experienced, and most likely unwilling to kill. There also physically weaker than the yaks.
In my opinion his best chances is to surround and bombard them, dont let them recover and keep them In chaos until the main forces can collapse in on them. Though that would result in heavy casualties among the yaks, probably only 3%-6.5% casualties for john max. And that's if they dont surrender until the very end. But since John probably doesn't want to kill the yaks, surrounding and bombing there logistics. Food, water, weapons, apparel, medical supplies, ect. That with an elastic/mobile surroundment, as in not engaging in combat, not letting them escape, sleep, ect. Would quickly destroy moral and is the quickest way with the least casualties I can think of.
Edit: this took a while to type on mobile
Quick question since this story deals with politics, and you place a romance tag on it, is it possible at some point a princess of queen might offer a political marriage to help with good relationships between kingdoms?
10729202
Yes. But not the MC specifically. Marriages will happen, some are possible ships, other are... well EaW Ships and all of that.
10729243
I keep hearing this EaW for sometime now, is that like a comic or a video game of some sort?

Equestria at War is a mod for Hearts of Iron 4 a RTS WW2 game. There is a wikia.

In the 'Getting Started' section you can check on a brief summary of what HoI4 is really about.
10729251
Oh I get it now, and you are implementing them, clever. Can't wait to see how would that play out
continue com essa hisotira por favor ta muito legal mesmo eu amei essa historia por favor
10728796
not so much the racism route, but more of a trauma that hasn't healed quite yet, then again a year has already swooped by, so a lot might have changed
10729738
Honestly? I don’t even think it’s a case of trauma either, I think the leading emotion is anger, after all Chrysalis DID ruin her wedding. Fuck the Kidnapping, impersonating and brainwashing! She is mostly pissed off by the wedding crashing
I never liked how the show did the Crystal Empire in general. What Equestria basically did was over throw the leader of a foreign country. Then, rather than allow the citizens of the empire choose their leader, Celestia installs two Equestrian Citizens as a puppet government. Both groomed from childhood by Celestia herself.
While I do like how this story is going, I do have to say that reading the last two chapters, "Puppet Government" crossed my mind. John is far too chummy with Equestria. While Equestria is harmless, John or any other ruler would still be much more careful in dealing with them. Leaders put their own countries first. John should know that if Equestrias interests mean letting the Crystal Empire burn, they will let it, Just as John himself will put the best interests of his empire ahead of everything else.
Like I said, I found myself thinking, "Is this a foreign country, or a part of Equestria?" John just comes across (in the last chapters) as too fanboy and less a ruler. That kind of behavior/outlook will bite him in the ass. Countries with puppet governments quickly devolve into third world, because the parent country focuses on itself first and the puppet nations well-being is an afterthought.
It may not be fair, but its legitimately what ran through my mind as I listened to those chapters.
As for the yaks. I would go with Joseph Stalin. Remove the man, remove the problem.
“Death solves all problems— no man, no problem.” -Joseph Stalin
The Monk
“Come into my parlor, Ted. I have cookies!” -Reykan
Given the way the chapter ended, I half expected this line to follow up with how he was gonna get back at Luna, and "oh yea, gotta deal with the yaks too."
Hehe we thought the Yaks were going to be a problem, just not so soon...
10729246
Its a Hearts of iron 4 mod

To be fair to John, they do still need those foreign aid from Equestria that comes with Cadance and Shining. One does not simply revive a nation from a millennia of ruin in a year or five.
But consider this: John knew he's the king, and not Cadance nor Shining. He acted on his own with that changeling queen, and he didn't mention anything about backing down on it should Cadance protests, only said that "they're right to be mad". He fully knows that the Empire is a sovereign entity from Equestria, he's just playing his cards carefully.
One wrong move and he'll end up like Gaddafi against the US. You can't move much when you're in no way able to adequately defend yourself, but that doesn't mean escapes aren't available. Still, I'm not seeing signs of John's Crystal Empire being what Israel is to USA, to Equestria.
Huh. Neat.
