This feels like a sequel to a story that never got written. Stuff keeps getting referenced that makes a reader to think there’s a whole lot of background in universe to be understood but is then only briefly brushed over in Twilight’s batbroom scene.
A great thing about writing your own story is that you have access to the entire canon right in your head. You understand all of your characters’s history, motivations and what comes next. Readers, on the other hand, really don’t have that and it can leave readers confused when big worldbuilding questions come up that either get a too brief answer or no answer at all.

That's actually the point. This IS a sequel to a story that never got written. I am still planning to write said story, but it will not be in prose form and will be a much, much bigger project than I am currently able to devote time to, given my schedule, so I decided to dabble in writing this as something akin to a stopgap. There's a lot of fans waiting to see the original story. I started it once as a comic and then never finished it, will remake from scratch as something else, possibly a Visual Novel... eventually.
This is to give them something set in the same universe and storyline that I am actually capable of producing right now, perfectly understandable if it doesn't make much sense at first glance, and it definitely won't be for everyone. I'm hoping this will, eventually, be able to stand somewhat on its own, but we're just getting started here, so who knows.

I personally enjoy my ships a bit more on the hur/comfort side but there is no denying this is at least decent. Without plot, so far, but decent!

There is actually a plot though. This, afaik, is a continuation/ soft reboot of the comic, friendship is dirty, which is in itself a continuation of a much earlier comic. It's like the MCU in that way. There is plot, just not all in one spot. This story has an assumption that you already know what happened previously, and doesn't exposit all over you in the first minute to set the stage.
Pity, looks like the author died... hasn't been on since feb last year....
