Deep in the Badlands, Twilight, Rainbow Dash, and Fluttershy lead an expedition to the ancient, lost city of Petrot, which had survived for decades during the first reign of Discord two and a half thousand years ago. There, they uncover fabulous treasures and ancient knowledge, as well as unsettling hints about the possible history of Equestria and its immortal sovereigns.

The canon for this story ends just before the Canterlot Wedding two-parter.

We've only just seen the gate, and I can already tell that these Petrot ponies were way more warlike than our current Equestrians.

So much to digest.

It would seem that Petrot didn't make it past the bronze age, or at least continued using bronze for much of their constructions. Yet there seems to be a more modern side to the ancient culture as well; metal cabinets, weaponized gunpowder (I think), and a very organized legal/records system.

The artwork that Twilight found, I'm imagining a Hindu art style, which seems to clash with the Mycanean style carvings described. This may be me as a reader not getting the full picture though.

Regardless, Rainbow's "run-in" has me worried just what else might be perceived by our now abandoned heroes.
