Milkshakes and Feelings

Rarity was in her house, drinking tea and humming a tune to herself. As she relaxed, the unicorn had a particular mare on her mind; her best friend Pinkie Pie. The thoughts of the pink joyful mare had gone on for quite some time. She had thought about admitting her feelings toward Pinkie however she couldn’t find the courage to speak out to her. Every chance Rarity had, she’d quickly get discouraged, causing her to hide her true feelings.

She could only think to herself: Oh Pinkie, why must you be so… Pinkie! Your curly mane, your soft fur… Those diamond blue eyes. Oh those stunning blue eyes. Rarity circled her hoof around the rim of the tea cup. She looked out the window, with a good view of the popular bakery her crush worked and lived in; Sugarcube Corner.

Drowned in her thoughts, knocking from the front door snapped her back into reality. “Coming!” She yelped. The knocking continued and she rolled her eyes. Obnoxious knocking really kills the tone of relaxation. Rarity got out of her sofa and placed her tea cup down. She trotted over to the door trying to maintain her inner peace. She opened the door, assuming it was another customer looking for a dress to be made.

“I apologize, sir or madame, but the Carousel Boutique is currently-“ The mare froze realizing the pony was no customer. It was her friend, Pinkie Pie! Looking at her caused a butterfly-like feeling within her tummy, Rarity tried her best to keep standing. “Pinkie! So good to see you!” Not good at ALL. Why must you come just as I was thinking about you?!. Rarity brought a convincing grin among her face.

"Hiya Rares! How’s it hangin’? Nonono wait! Let me guess, workin’ on a super neato dress-arino?” The pink mare asked. She gave Rarity a silly smirk with an additional cute blinking.

Rarity couldn’t help but let out a chuckle as she placed her hoof over her mouth. “No, silly! I’m just currently taking the time to relax… I’ve managed to finish all of my client's dresses! What brings you here-“

“ I’m booooored!” Pinkie pouted. “Everypony is all busy! Twilight, princess stuff. AJ, farm stuff. Fluttershy, animal sanctuary. Rainbow Dash, WONDERBOLTS!” She flailed her hooves in the air and fell on the ground. She laid there for a moment, calming down… “Do you wanna hang out?”

Pinkie. Wants to hang out. With me?! Just me and her? Maybe this could give me a chance... Rarity had always hung out with Pinkie, but usually when it involved the rest of her friends or a friendship problem. Rarity really wanted to spend some true quality time with her crush.

“YES-“ She quickly retook in her excitement and retained her lady-like attitude. “Ahem, I would most certainly enjoy that!” She cleared her throat, pretending that didn’t happened…

“Great! Let’s not waste time!” Pinkie Pie took Rarity’s hoof, leaving the Boutique and into the beautiful day in Ponyville. “To Sugarcube Corner!”

As they arrived, Pinkie hopped over the counter and dashed into the kitchen. The sounds of cooking utensils crashing around echo the empty bakery. It seemed that Pinkie closed up shop early. Just in a quick moment, Pinkie went around the counter with a tray holding two milkshakes! “ BAM! Two chocolate milkshakes just for you and moi~!” She placed the tray by a nearby table and sat down on one end.

Rarity sat on the other end. She wondered how she was going to tell Pinkie about her crush. She didn't know how Pinkie would react; would she hate her? Is she not into mares? She gets lost in her anxious thoughts. The unicorn loved Pinkie so much…

“Rarity? You alright?” Pinkie starred at her friend, concerned why she was looking all over the place.

Rarity blushed in embarrassment. “Yes, ahem, apologies… Just have some things on my mind…” She couldn’t help but bite her lower lip…

“What kinda things…~?” Pinkie leaned on the table, putting her milkshake to the side. Rarity was hoping that Pinkie wouldn't ask her that.. She had to think of a lie and fast.

“Oh y’know, just ideas for the new season of dresses. Nothing special to be honest!” She hated lying to Pinkie. Her desperation to let out her feelings were eating her from the inside... All she could do is put up a fake smile.

“Oooh! Gotcha! And the season is changing pretty quickly too! But I’m sure you’ll think of something super quick!” She give her unicorn friend a wink and began to sip on her milkshake. Pinkie’s concerned for her little lie causes Rarity’s heart to flutter. Even though it was made up, just that little concerned comment showed just another reason why Rarity loved Pinkie Pie. “Anywho, tell me about your day!”

Their conversations had gone on for some time. Pinkie had gone through five milkshakes, going back and forth to make more and chatter with her best friend. Pinkie would go on to crack a couple jokes here and there. A majority of their conversation got deep at times; talking about the time Rarity and Pinkie were tied together one time, or the time both of them got lost in the desert. Throughout it all, Rarity had been trying to find the perfect opportunity to bring up her true feelings.

Pinkie finished her last milkshake, giving a loud, final slurp from her straw. “Mmmmh…”She leaned back, rubbing her soft pink tummy. Rarity just kept her eyes on the mare. It’s now or never, Rarity… This is the perfect time to say it. C’mon… Say it... She squinted at her.

“Is… Something wrong?” Pinkie pouted. “D-Did In do something?” Her ears folded down as a worried look formed over her face.

“What- Heavens no! I… I just have something to say to you.” Rarity straightened her posture and took a deep breath. “Pinkie… I…” She froze up just looking at her friend. Her heart pounded heavily as her eyes stared at Pinkie.

“I what? Spit it out, Rares!” The anticipation got to Pinkie.

Rarity yelped out her answer, “I HAVE A CRUSH ON YOU!” She quickly stuffed her hooves into her mouth, embarrassed by the way she blurted it out… Pinkie looked at her with an extremely surprised expression; her jaw dropped and eyes widen. Her face slowly turned a darker pink. “I have a crush on you, Pinkie…” She repeated herself with a disappointing tone. “I was afraid of saying this…”

“…” The pink filly shut her mouth, taking in the information. “Wow… Uhm …” She tapped her chin thinking of what to say. Then she cracked the cutest yet very smug smile. “ I was wondering when you were going to tell me this!”

“W-wait, huh?” Her mind was confused. Rarity was baffled by Pinkie’s response. “You were?!”

"Yep!” She snorted. “And you know what’s funny?” Pinkie let giggled happily. “I have a crush on you too!” She grinned widely with joy.

Rarity was now the shocked one, having the same expression Pinkie previously had. The corners of her mouth began to form into a joyful smile. The response from her friend was far more better than she expected. She used magic to slide the table aside and lunged into Pinkie, wrapping her hooves around her. She couldn’t help but nuzzle the pink body that was laying on the ground. Pinkie couldn’t help but giggle and hug Rarity back.

“Oh Pinkie...”

“Oh Rarity…”
