Wait.
No Flutterdash, or TwiPie ...or Rarjack this chapter?
Hmmm... Well, it was still a gripping read. And even better (in some ways) because it was a kind of read I didn't see coming. I had been expecting a mix of others mixing in with the mane 6's story but to have it focused on the other focus here has put into perspective how potentially screwed Equestria is.
The mane 6 are vacant while the bad guys and deer take center stage. Good thing I enjoy Tempest her and Grubber are funny together.
But wait... Cozy Glow??? Oh dear, this little psyco. From what I've seen of her in Season 9, shes crazy. The fact that a filly is in Tartarus alongside a bad guy who tried to suck everypony's magic out twice and the changling queen says a lot about how dangerous and unhinged she is. I have missed her episode in Season 8(pretty sure she didn't just apper in Tartarus?) and need to see it. But anyway.
She lived up to all Ive seen and come to know about her. Maybe a little too well even. She was scary. Poor, poor Ember. I did not expect her to be in charge of torture. Her in the jail system at all was a red light by itself as shes a deadly little trickster and would be sure to have worked information out of unsuspecting folks even without needing to resort to pain.
And Tempest with healing magic? Have you seen how lightening her horn usually is and how well she seems to link with destruction magics?
Shes no healer.
So that must have been some painful healing for Ember. Is she getting tossed back in with Spike now that her use is over?
I didn't see the deers inclusion coming. Magical deer is something I never even considered. The fact that Celestia appears to have slaughtered en mass a ton of Deer in the past is pretty dark. So that's another foe about to come out against the ponies. Their magic system and ritualistic way of life stands out in stark contrast against everyone else. I'm not sure how interested I am in them yet, but their two leaders seem like they are about to add to Celestia's problems and I don't think she's going to really want to just burn everything again.
Regarding Sour Sweet. Is it going to be a cold day in Tartarus or will she succeed in getting her friend home after all this? She was impressive in the bar and her handling of the barkeep.
Gallus Nooo!
As a Gallus x Silverstream shipper, seeing him on the bad guys side was deeply ...unexpected. Not sure if he can meet Silverstream and be redeemed here, but oh well. This gonna be a big incoming fight and hes quite a tough youngster to lead this out.
I wonder how well informed Celestia is and how much she is willing to share with the likes of Twilight in the defence of Equestria. The pieces are lining up here and I can see a series of very big fights about to unfold soon.

Honestly, I was going to have some Mane 6 fun times, but then the chapter kind of morphed into what it was. Let's see- the deer are personally my favorite and while they do seem rather threatening, let's say that the two leaders kind of balance each other out- they are doing exactly what they say in the chapter- diplomatic mission to redress some of what the alicorns did to them. And since they are most analogous to Celts or Norsemen mixed with a tiny bit of Native tone, they are going to walk into a rather happy time and muck things up. They are more a neutral force for good than outright bad, since if they were truly evil they would have wiped out Ponyville easily. The stuff with the deer are going to be intertwined with both Moondancer and Starlight from what I hinted in the talk in Helvyr. I honestly wanted a mix of both life and death for them since that makes sense in my mind with how I've envisioned them. Let's just say that talks get rather bad for a little bit.
I honestly never did like the implication of things not having magic- with how the world in canon seems, it would make sense that it's a magic filled world- and even though it's been a real long time, that's why I mentioned Moondancer escaping from the magic cancelling ring in Ironhoof. There's a whole set of magic rules I made up in my head for the rare occasion I might use them.
Cozy I threw in because while I don't enjoy most of season 8, I do love her as a character and she had some rather fun moments in the season finale. Weirdly enough, I did like writing her since I had to find that almost balance between cute exterior and horrible actions she often performed. Though the little friendship rant she had, I cribbed together from what I saw of her in canon- she is a pony who understands friendship as a weapon, not a goal in itself. Plus she's a fantastic spy if she enters Equestria. Fake nice to some ponies is still good enough to be used.
And Gallus has been in a few chapters already going with the Changelings to attack Manehattan. It's been a few chapters though since I brought him up, so honestly I had to refresh myself on where exactly I had left off on that plot thread myself. He's on the side of bad, but I have plans for him once Manehattan happens.
Oh and if you briefly noticed, I have Sugarcoat and Sour Stream looking inadvertently for Rainbow Dash's parents to get back to Ponyville. This is partially why I said 'oh boy, these next few chapters will get rather messy for some characters. But at least I have a plan and going with some characters that I haven't mentioned in a few chapters, I see the wrap up point for these series of events.

Then I shall follow the deer with interest. I got the feeling that should negotiations fail that the more warlike brother would attack. Being the kind you have set them up to be could go bad for them in a big war though as I doubt the griffons, storm king army or changlings would pass on stomping them.
As I'm rewriting Crashing Angels at the moment on the side I can 100% say... I have no idea who Dash's canon parents are
I know who they are in the story, as it came out pre-canon parents. But yea.
And my missing Gallus before like this is probably down to how poorly I knew of the season 8+ characters till more recently coupled with not having read updates from you in a wee while so some minor details get lost with time (hence me sometimes needing to read back a few chapters in your big fic). I'm rooting for Gallus to turn to the other side
I agree with you on Cozy. You did her friendship rant justice.

Thank you for the stuff, honestly with how busy I've been trying to cobble this story together, I've also missed some of the details in your own works ever so slightly- and I don't really like Dash's actual parents in canon too much anyway. (Actually I had to even look up their names since I don't usually remember the dad's name at all.) Every time they pop up, I want to like them but they seem way too supportive, enough so most of the Dashcentric plots that do involve that I've seen make her lie to her parents because she doesn't want their extreme love and support. I'm not doing that here. I have to say that I like the characters that season 8 introduced since it gave me ways to flesh out like seven different races of creatures with their inclusion, but besides maybe Cozy Glow centric episodes to get the introduction of her and what she does, there's not much canon specific things that I gleaned from that season. Not entirely skippable, but I still have to say plotwise it's okay.
