Starlight talks about how interesting she is. Nonstop. It's all Glimmy, all the time, which makes this the most interesting story on the site! Updated whenever things get interesting.
But yeah, the Starlight-Pinkie interaction does not seem like a very easy one. Getting along with Pinkie means letting go enough to get swept in the current and enjoy it, and Starlight is more or less incapable of doing that. I'm not entirely sure if she ever will be, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. But it does bode poorly for her chances of handling the pink one. Of course, holding Pinkie still and trying to explain that to her... Well, Maud might be able to do it.
Eh... Not always. The best of friends will jab and joke at each other, sometimes constantly, but they're still there for each other when it really counts. Friendship isn't all baking cupcakes and sharing smiles. Sometimes it's an elbow to the ribs and "Getta load o' this guy..."
To be fair to Starlight, Pinkie is an acquired taste and varies in excitability from time to time...and episode to episode...and writer to writer...unless M.A. Larson's on story editing duty, in which case she's reasonably consistent. For her.
Sometimes, being a friend means having to say "You're being an idiot. Stop being an idiot."
It's all well and good to be 'friends' when everything's okay and good and hunky-dory. But when things aren't okay, when you have a problem, only the real friends stick around to help you. And when that problem is you... yeah. As the saying goes, 'sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind'.
Hohohohoho-lee hell this is the best Glimglam anybody has ever done in the history of ever. Including the show! Casual malice, casual sex, and non-stop self-loathing, all wrapped up in this dry, self-aware, highly acidic wit that really, really makes her...
...dare I say it?
glimmer compelling to read about. I would pay money to hear Kelly Sheridan record an audiobook of this story. I would pay actual money. I would take my grandmother's insulin money and use it to fund a Kelly Sheridan audiobook of this very story, and I would do it with no regrets.
I look forward to this story (and, by extension, to you) brightening my day by appearing on my feed whenever it gets an update.
So, for the record, I can see I'll need to put reviewing this story in full on hold until I finally get caught up on Season 7 (do not worry! Nothing I read before realizing that spoiled me on anything I didn't know about already by other means), but, having read the first chapter in full, I can say I find this to be, all too appropriately, a fascinating change of pace for you. The first-person prose, the stream-of-consciousness structure, the way the chapters (going off the first as the baseline, admittedly) simultaneously give us a great sense of Star's thought process (and the way it can occasionally get away from her >w>) while also still keeping themselves disciplined enough that it never feels meandering...it's very different in feel and style from your usual stuff, but as a result, it's able to achieve the same tone of affectionate observation your other stories have from a new, up-close-and-personal perspective that lends it a nice, just-right edge I'm very eager to see explored further. This is VERY strong motive for me to get off my ass and watch the damned new season already, too, so thanks for that. XD
Definitively sold on you as an author by this point. Not sure the story is 100% as good as it could possibly be, but it's good enough that, combined with how it's written, it implies you've a decent bit of talent. More talent than some 'featured' stories I've read (though, to be fair to those stories, they usually have a premise with both more creativity and 'mainstream appeal')
Plus, even though I'd just read through a Celestia version of this (spanning EVERY episode so far, in chronological order) I still feel like I could read a good half-dozen more of these kinds of collections before I'd feel we'd be getting close to 'enough' :P Just something amusing about seeing a character 'reflect' and/or comment on an episode. Speaking of reflection; So far, Starlight's writing is reminiscent of the 'Reflective Journal' I've started being assigned in a school context - It's hardly a top-grade version, but she's not taking it 'seriously' either; It's her own initiative, not an assignment from Twilight.
Please followup every chapter that makes us feel the feels with one that is full of starlight's sarcastic humor!
Define "nice."

Can't deal with Pinkie either. It's normal
I mean to be fair I interact with a few people that I’d love to be able to Starlight Glimmer the shit out of.
Also Starlight’s getting more action than I am.
Okay, this one just felt depressing. ..
Also:
Why reluctantly?
Pre Crusaders of the Lost Mark i could understand, but after?
I'm sure she'd be glad to share them

Oh, Starlight.
I happen to take a great deal of pride in being a horrible person. I love being horrible.
But it can be lonely, and that's why the absolute best way to be a horrible person is to find other people to be horrible with.
Give into the mind control, Starlight. Do it to EVERYPONY. It's for their own good.

Before I read this, what is the Dark tag for ?
And how bad does it get ?

It's for Starlight Glimmer. Think about who she is.

This chapter. Is. Amazing. It perfectly nails Starlight in a way the show can’t really match if it wants to maintain its tone.
Boy, this really puts Starlight ooc.
