You don't go from a somewhat relatable character to Gary Stu in a single jump without explaining the hows and whys. Especially not after you spent four chapters getting us invested in this teater totter of his life ending and his equestrian one starting.

That's like someone getting shot and then instead of dying they come back as Jesus ing Christ.

8162933 they actually find him, not become the messiah. That's what they have to do, live behind the hero and push them foreword as hard as they can without breaking them.
