It seems that the hurricane season is well upon us; between Hurricane Harvey two weeks ago, and Hurricane Irma demolishing several islands in the Caribbean, while two more wend their way around the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico, there’s quite a bit of atmospheric excitement. I wrote a piece of original fiction over the weekend – the first such piece I’ve written since late 2013. I had some fun writing it, and I think I shall be doing more of it and see how it goes.

But don’t think that means I’m giving up on ponies. Original fiction is business. Ponies? Are fun.

For George Orwell, it produced Nineteen Eighty Four, as he viewed the creeping totalitarianism of the world around him.

For me, it produced The Collected Poems of Maud Pie, written in a single night while channeling Maud.

And for Admiral Biscuit… for Admiral Biscuit, it produced… this.

I originally started this review set on April 15^th. I got three stories done, and then forgot I had started a set. By the time I got back to it, it was the end of June, so I figured I probably should move them over to a Read It Later review set.

And then sat on it for another month.

Horizon publishing a story this morning, along with a request from someone who had gotten a featured story, spurred me to finish this set.

Back in December, when I first started this set of reviews, I wrote:

It is very easy to try and write reviews of a lot of short stories. It lets you get through large numbers of works in a short period of time… but it also means you’re avoiding many of the longer works, many of which I added to my Read It Later list because they were supposed to be quite good. What is the point of having such stories on your list if you are always going to put off reading them?
