I have no idea.
Well, actually i do, but I want to hear from everyone, why do so many authors and/or protagonists hate/dislike/unapprove of gender swapping?
I get the big deal from my point of view(and I'm perfectly fine with G-Swaps), but I want to know the general opinion of why?
Also, don't bother coming to talk about:
being boss
manly
masculinity
- as those are just plain stupid reasons.

I have no idea.
I personally have no issue with it, so long as the actual story is written well.

2323815 I think it's because I don't like the mane 6 having dicks.

But hey it's just me.

2323815 G-swap is fine. I find it interesting.

Because it is only really used in clop fics and I prefer to be able to put myself in the character's hooves when they are fucking and that is hard to do if they don't have a dick.

That and I like my dick and I don't know what it feels like to have my vagina stimulated because I don't have one.

I think he is talking about the main human charater getting turned into a mare.

2323815
Because there's usually no reason for gender swapping other than, "lol Rule 63."

2323815 Because the author often handles it with all the subtlety and finesse of an elephant attempting to juggle three well-greased bricks. Unwilling genderswaps are especially prone to mishandling, since quite often there's a sort of 'whatever *shrugs and goes off to fuck mares*' sort of approach which utterly breaks my suspension of disbelief. Also, what 2323834 said, since that lack of finesse is usually just an excuse to write some essentially plotless porn fic.

That aside, I have no problem with eloquently written and sensibly handled (in character) gender swap fics.

2323815 *clears throat* I don't know, but I do know of a certain author who is quite the fan of it, if that's something you're into. In fact, a story they're writing right now has a pretty big instance of this that I like to believe is handled well and believably.
I wonder who that could be?

I've never actually seen people who just outright hate gender swapping right off the bat. I see a few people who hate it when it's done wrong, sure, but just in general?
Maybe it's the thought of changing like that? Or... really not sure. I have a pretty biased point of view on the subject of switching genders, so I might not be the best to ask.

As a reader: Because it's one of the most boring tropes a author can pull out of his/her hat, and almost always serves little purpose other than riding out trite gender clichees (/emasculation jokes /gay jokes /stupid statements about raised libido). And because a lot of authors think that a genderswap is a plot all on it's own, instead of treating it like a setting, like it should be.

For characters in the story:
'cause emasculation. While there have been large steps made in the field of gender equality, one of the remaining things is still the expectation of "manliness" from males which pretty much hasn't changed at all. Also potency expectation. Peer pressure still dictates that man should be good in bed, "nail many bitches", and so on; A good part of psychology deals solely with fears of castration (both metaphoric and literal).

2323815 It's not the fact that I don't like it. I have seen some R63 pics and fics that are well done and funny. Clop on the other hand, well I like my clop with the adorable and sexy mares that I watch on the show, not their male counterparts.

If I were a gay man I would think I would very much like the gender swaped Ponies. But I'm not, and I am not going to assume anything either. So that's my opinion on the subject. Kisses!

2323815
It's not that I don't like it, but I literally just CANT imagine the mane six male it's impossible

I'm a man and I find it interesting. As odd as it may seem to be, things change drastically from shifting genders. We have specific roles to uphold for each gender. Take Applebloom, she just got a scrap on her leg,:applecry: the most common response from us would be pity and care for her. Applebuck on the other hand, we would think he should rub some dirt in it, man it up!

I just never really found it to be something I am interested in reading about. But there are some things that I find common in them that I hate and I think a lot of others do as well.

First of all, the act of having it happen is usually comically stupid and irreversible. And second, the stories that have gender swapping are almost never serious. They use it as a gimmick for comedic purposes in comedic stories that are usually sub par.

Also, I watch anime, I have seen enough of it. The only thing to garner from it is seeing the world from a Womans perspective, usually a bunch of female pandering and feminist ego masturbation about "How hard it is being a girl", stuff like that. And lastly, nobody ever takes the time to pace the transition from a man in a womans body to a woman in a womans body. They always rush it and the man who was a man only the other day just suddenly likes guys and acts feminine.

If somebody made a serious story, and took the time to properly show how a man in a womans body would transition from his former self to his new self, or maybe break the mold and have it not effect his personality at all and have him still be into women despite now being female, or hell have him be originally gay and all of a sudden he is a woman. Maybe he was gay masculine before and still distraught at being a Woman, or maybe he was feminine gay and loves it. Maybe he liked being a guy despite being gay and hates his current position and has to learn to deal with it. Something different and not the same shit over and over. I might read that.

As it stands now nobody has done this. Every time it happens they almost instantly become the stereotypical gender personality they were transitioned to and become attracted to the sex they were before and all that crap.

Check out P-Theory (or P Theory - one of the two -it's hard check on my phone) by Balthasar999. It's more of a pony transformation story, and deals with the physical awkwardness that would cause, but the poor sap is also female now. I look at sitting down as a pony in a whole new light now.

I've read a story like that, not a FIM fic though A gay man turns into a female, and you know what happened? The man didn't like it, he was a man, his sexual preference didn't mean he wanted to become of the alteranted sex. He even threw a fit. The story passed through the several points you would find in any swamped genere, but passed through them on a mentality of a free mentality and opinion of someone who has suffered by gay people misstreatment.

At one point he even liked the attention he was getting, he was naked after all. But that's besides the point. It can be done well. I too hate the bad, dislike it just because? Nope.

2323815 I have no clue.
Mainly because I seem to enjoy the idea of being turned to the opposite gender. A large part of my mind is creeped out by the idea, but I believe it is simply morbid curiosity on my part.

I am male. I have always been curious what it would be like to be female (with either male or female mind).

I'm just curious. I also wonder what it would be like not to be straight, though not to the point that I actually want to do anything about it.

I don't heavily value my masculinity as such.

Genderswap stories are only as good as the author. Clop, mature, futa, it all depends on the author. My only complaint is when the author only genderswaps some of the characters. A true genderswap story swaps ALL of the characters' genders.

2323821
Oh, come on. They already have more balls than most people I know.

simples, the loss of you're 'man hood'. done.

i don't disapprove it and i don't dislike it i just don't find appealing to read :applejackunsure:

ive read like one fic of those. i enjoyed it.

For me it's because your gender is a pretty damn big factor of who you are. As big as your species. So getting your gender swapped would be comparable to being ponified in that you're losing a very important part of yourself.

Oh, and this:

Don't cut off your pennis lads. :rainbowwild:

My main objection? The incredibly stupid names given by the fandom to the male versions of the mane 6.

2323815
Because I am a man.

That's who I am. Who I identify as.

Taking away my gender is taking away a very important part of who I identify as. It's basically as bad as brainwashing or murder.

But, that's just because I personally strongly identify as male. I can totally understand why a lot of men are fine with it, or even incredibly turned on by it.

2323821
I meant G-Swap with the protagonist... who is usually the human.
But true that, although I have nothing against it.

2323819
Best words said so far in this thread.

2323827
I should have added clopfics to the not talk list *facepalm*

2323832
More like man turned into something female and vice-versa.

2323908
Humm-de-dumm...

2324004
Why would someone fear castration?

2324063
Wrong, being biased, that is.

2324209
Tobe honest, I don't read much psychological stories anymore, just because they don't seem.. real, being a philosopher, one tends to think anything is 'normal'.

2324378
Morbid curiosity.... huh...

2326010>>2325724>>2324997

Also, don't bother coming to talk about:
being boss
being (a) man(ly)
being 'human'

2326207
Hah!

I am not manly. :unsuresweetie:

I am merely male.

2326207 Obviously someone only watched the video and didn't read my comment at all.

2323815 It think it is funny way to spin things and it make for good reading.
I like it, just not in the real world, I like my gender

What 2324004 said. Males have an instinctual aversion to genital damage so strong that, if the depression after the loss of genital function isn't treated, they often die from no longer eating or drinking. It's a self destruction instinct that ensures that an organism that can't reproduce won't waste precious resources. It's sad as hell. I think that's why there's a bigger stigma against male to female transgender individuals. They aren't in the gene pool anymore and thus are just a resource drain according to some primitive part of our brain.

2326299
I actually read the comment and didn't watch the video :3 Its kind of hard to do that when your on a phone(with Android 4.0.3 -.-').

2326246>>2326299
Sorry, my mistake:
being boss
being (a) man(ly)
being 'human'

2328645
Ooh, nice explanation.
But that, honestly, is kind of.. dumb, not the explanation, but if its true, we control ourselves, not some primal instincts and if people can't overcome some disagreeable part of they're brain, then they are still just animals.
We control our brain, not vice-versa.

2326603
FOR SCIENCE INDEED :D

2329538
Well, sure. That makes sense.

"I want to know psychological reasons why some people would reject something. Oh, but don't try to use psychological explanations as to why said thing may make them uncomfortable."

Yes, I'm afraid that identifying as a man is a more than legitimate answer for your question.

232958
Its indeed, a legitimate answer, although a bad one. Sad, your narrow-minded.

2329616
I see that I've explained my position poorly.

I apologize, for doing so.

Please, allow Hank Green to do it for me.

2329638
Not a bad video, your lucky i was actually on my computer for this one, as i could watch it.
Your position is explained, but its still very poor.

-we control ourselves, not some primal instincts and if people can't overcome some disagreeable part of they're brain, then they are still just animals.
We control our brain, not vice-versa.

But if you are comfortable with it, be my guest, or friend :P
