So given to the current status on Them's Fightin' Herds, updates are still being made on the pixel lobby, the settings, and the characters. Story Mode isn't coming out anytime soon.
And furthermore, given to the latest developments on Friendship is Magic, one way or another, I'm starting to consider making a rewrite on The Fighting Dragon, with the recent developments thus far, like Spike having wings.
But before I can proceed, I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. Should there be a rewrite, or just work with what I've got so far?

Well, it depends. You could just hold this story on hiatus until the full story comes out, you could remake the story the same way you want to write it now but with Spike's wing (by that, I mean that you could put the show's story updated) or you could just rewrite the whole thing into what you like and feel more comfortable.
In the end, it's more preferable for you to pick up the method that will provide you with the best story you want to write.

If I were you I’d probably wait a little longer before a reboot is required. Depending on whether the game comes out or how the series ultimately ends, the plot is expected to change at any rate depending on the circumstance.
I would say that it's entirely up to you. If you want to wait until both the series and the game have been completed, go ahead. If you want to go ahead and keep doing it and just make it a full-on AU story (with your choice of canon cut-off points), then that's great too.
The fact remains that the decision is entirely up to you and I will respect that decision no matter what it is.
Just go with whatever you decide will provide you with the best story.
Honestly I would love for this to happen the original story isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. And I personally I’d to see a remake
Why not add a filler chapter or so, in which by Spike's change is being caused by being on a different world or his training to become strong or something like fear/dangerous causes him to have a rapid growth spurt in which sends him in a transformation stage from "Baby" dragon to "Young" dragon.
If I were you I would keep thing's the way they are maybe put an AU tag on it to be on the safe side
