    Chapter 56 Promo!

In an isolated, abnormally large, hollowed-out tree might not be the typical abode for megalomaniacal n'ere-do-wells. If it could cheer you up, I'm willing to tell a story of how I had a hand in shaping one of the biggest JP Fics on Fanfic?

S̻͚ͧ͐̓͌ͯPͣE̟̮͕̫͊̒̔̉͠A͚͆̒̒͝K̹͉̬̞̝ͤ̇́.̴̙̠̟̿̒̍̔

Tell me what's wrong my friend?

4804206
Woah! Say it, don't spray it! It's that bad huh?

I rather enjoyed it. It's sparked a level of imagination in me I haven't had since I was a child. This is the kind of world building I love. It's so perfect! It answers questions, but brings up a few more! I love it! The imagination that this post has reinspired in me makes me feel like a kid again. I've always fantasized that InGen had a secret lab devoted to hybrids ever since CE came out. Seems I wasn't the only one. The camo-X-treme didn't help to dampen my spirits when that came out, either. And the whole "what else is InGen up to?" line in JP/// made my childhood imagination run wild! This movie has hit my buttons just right from every direction. The toys, the viral marketing, the trailers... At this point, I don't even care if the movie is good. I just love the marketing campaign.

4804213
I was overjoyed. I was enthralled. I was, exactly where you are standing.... And then they pulled the stunt they did to effectively destroy any meaning the second and third movie had for the new films with what they did to Isla Sorna. Understand this old friend, when they pulled that rug out, I went from over the moon to crashing face first. I have never been so extremely pissed.off at a franchise I beloved for decades before. And I hope to god I'm wrong.

4804212
And yet, your still gonna go see it huh?

Chris Patt

Enough said😇

4804216
Yeah, that part I'm in pretty big disbelief about too. I mean, how do you cause an extinction on Isla Sorna? It just doesn't seem possible. I'm not taking it at face value, yet. They don't explicitly say there's no more dinos on Sorna and until they do, I'm taking it as propaganda for the Dino Protection Group.

What are you even talking about?

I...have no idea what you're talking about.

4804199
The Fic is called It's Not The Raptor Dna by Skullsandduggery(it has a TV Tropes page). It explored the idea of what if the Indominus was part human and how that would affect the JP world. When it first came out, I wasn't that much into it because it had a rough start, like I was thinking "Owen, how the hell can you act so relatively calmly with a creature that tried to kill you not half and hour ago?!" And ignored it for some time. But I noticed the fact that it updated daily whenever I checked the JP section and 20+ chapters in, I decided to give it another shot and when I got through its flaws. I was impressed on how the author could decently handle the story's pathos, and afterwards I followed its progression. My friendship with the author also had a rough start because back then, I was whiner that complained on how little spotlight my favorite dino Carcharo and wanted it to have more screentime on any fic, Damnit! It nearly drove her crazy. But it started to improve once I decided to tone down my demands for Carcharo and simply greet her with PMs with minor questions on the story and from there, we just started talking daily on whatever topics about JP there were. The first time I had an affect on the fic's story was when I suggested on a casual conversation that she do a chapter from Limper's(he's the Grown Up Baby Rex, and he later gains the macho name of Alexander) POV and she followed it with paragraph detailing Limper sensing omens. I can't remember in full detail everything I had or hadn't helped create on It's Not The Raptor DNA. But I remember progressing from giving a casual suggestion, later becoming her proofreader, her go-to guy on Scientific Dino information, to helping plan the ending of the fic, I even ended up singlehandedly creating a would-be major character who has yet to show up because said fic is on hiatus. And heck, I was even assisting her with original work! And that's all I can say about forging the story. The rest is about an unexpected friendship with who I may call my closest friend. To reiterate, it went from driving her crazy with demands of more screentime of Carcharodontosaurus to knowing each other by our real names, and telling the darkest parts of our lives.

Ohh yeah, I should mention some facts about the portrayal of the dinos in It's Not The Raptor DNA. Blue is portrayed as a hot-blooded Beta with a guilty pleasure for Double Stuffed Oreos(so much so that Owen joked about having to evacuate the island a second time if she discovered Oreo Thins), Rexy is portrayed as the Big Boss and resident Memetic Badass who develops into a surprising maternal figure to a few characters(like the Raptor Squad, specifically Blue who thinks she's totally awesome, surprisingly Claire, and ironically Elise, who is the redeemed Indominus and protagonist of this story), and there's Sobek the Spino who is portrayed as an Old Mean Son of a B*tch who calls Elise an abomination right to her face and wishes to battle Rexy, but he gradually softens up after his spar with Rexy(which he lost) and as he got to know Elise more, he even takes in Elise as a disciple and teaches her the patented Rex Buster technique.

I could say more or answer any questions you have if you feel like it?

4804231
This sounds somewhat in the same vein as The Silliest JP Fanfic series by Lord Kristine, but a lot less goofy.

4804239
The tone is overall lighthearted, but it isn't afraid to show how ugly the JP world can be. For example, the Main Human villain; Bridges, the CEO of Ingen and controller of Sorna. Is a sociopathic bastard who hates Rexes because one tried to kill his mother, had 99% of the wild Rex population hunted down(including the Baby Rex's parents) and keeps a breeding pair of Rexes caged just so he can feed their children to his crazy personal pet Spino(who is not the JP3 one).

I pray for your sanity...and some clarity. Cause I have no clue what set you off my man.

Tarbtano's angry because the guys behind Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom have said that all the dinosaurs from Jurassic Park III, including the Spinosaurus, are dead, so there is no chance they will appear in Fallen Kingdom or future movies. I theorize that this is because of the extremely negative fan reaction to Jurassic Park III.

Tarbtano, I feel similar regarding how the Equestria Girls movies keep shafting Flash Sentry, who was one of my favorite characters, likely due to his negative fan reaction. We have no choice but to enjoy what's available.

4804253
Makes sense and I do agree with you, I also miss the old dinosaurs from the Original three movies

4804253
I mean, eh...its obviously a cheap means of raising the steaks so the volcano is now an extiction level event for the dinosaurs on Nublar, but Lost world and 3 were not good movies and i have little attachment to the dinosaurs on that island.

4804253
That seems like a pretty minor thing to be sent into a frenzy about. Then again, I didn't grow up with any of the Jurassic Park Movies (or was as attached to the fandom as Tarb is), so I guess that's just me.

So basically you're like this:

4804261
Movie quality is one thing, but backtracking on lore just to grasp for more nostalgia is always going to tick me off. It essentially makes absolutely EVERYTHING in the second and third movie, good or bad, a colossal waste; unceremoniously axing it off to keep grubbing at that 1993 nostalgia.

I don't care if people like movie 2 or 3, I actually really enjoyed movie 2 for doing something different and expanding on the lore; and I'm neutral with movie 3. But good or bad, they added to the lore of the franchise and left things to be used later. Even bad films still have have good or usable ideas. And just backtracking to recycle assets from movie 1 is going to run stale eventually. Not to mention this all but dooms the very two core dinosaurs they seem to demand we pay attention to as now Rexy and Blue are the last two of their species in existence. In their zeal to make sure we have your heads firmly jammed backward to focus solely on Nublar, they've caused their own plot holes which I will cover next blog.

4804253
Not just JP3 my friend but all of Isla Sorna. Every new species from there, every big individual dinosaur from the second and third movie, axed off in a very contrived manner solely to force focus on the first and fourth film. F***** man this pisses me off more than the feather problems and Flash bashing!

Wow, the movie was that bad?

4804267
TLW is a bad movie, it has good parts, but it's bad overall. It deserves credit for not being a rehash at least.
The films act structure and pacing are a mess, especially since it finishes what should be the third act on the island then transitions over to the main land for a new act 1. A lot like the Doomsday part of BvS DoJ. It dosen't help that the movie is way too long at nearly two and a half hours.
Three of our leads (Ian, Sarah, and especially Nick) are complete assholes who directly cause every human casualty in the film. Nick stealing Roland's bullets is the most loathsome thing a human in a JP film has ever done.

4804289
Something to keep in mind is that lore and World building is always strictly secondary to the importance of story, character, and themes. If something adds to the stories lore is pitted against what makes a story good, the latter should win every time. Focusing more on lore is why Shadow Play was such a shit finale. Sorna getting the axe kind of sucks, but pitted against the idea of the volcano being an extinction level threat, something that dramatically ups the tension of the story, and it suddenly makes total sense.

I don't like this movie

It's coarse, rough, irritating,

AND IT DOESN'T FILL THE PLOT HOLES IT MAKES

4804333
With all due respect I gotta disagree. I wouldn't be this upset if I didn't have a lot of thought and reasoning behind this my friend. Here's the problem. I give less of a damn about attempts at tensiln because their own attempts at making more dire stakes cause such huge plot holes I am left befuddled as to why the hell they even bothered when its not worth the trouble.

Case and point, apparently the park was populated with dinosaurs ripped out of Isla Sorna, not, as we were led to believe, surviving stock from Jurassic Park (Rexy) and newly cloned animals in the Masrani genetics lab on Nublar (you know, the one we saw multiple times?). Problem? We saw the genetics lab multiple times in Jurassic World and have ever indication the dinosaurs on Nublar in 2015 were mostly born their with a few holdovers. Having a bulk of them be Sorna imports now opens up the big plot hole of how no-one ever noticed or brought it up. How can you hide THAT many shipments and keep it under the table to the point the park workers and staff apparently don't notice? The last movie even directly stated JW has created multiple new species before and attendance spiked each time, resulting in them trying to outdo themselves with the Indominus.

Second plot hole, extinctions. Pretty much all of the Sorna exclusive animals or animals known to live their are actually now dead aside from some herd species. Isla Sorna had, in 1996, six adult T.rex. Factoring in reproduction and one or two dying (like in JP3), that still leaves at least 8-12+ by time of 2004 right before Jurassic World opened. So somehow, every single T.rex they rounded up seems to have dropped dead soon as they got off the boat to Nublar. And this isn't accounting for the dozens of herbivores, 30-50 ton sauropods, multiple smaller carnivores, and at least 3 dozen strong combine raptor packs who got transported only to die immediately after. And yes, before any arguments to the contrary, JW confirmed the only Tyrannosaurus and raptors on Nublar were Owen's pack and Rexy; meaning every last one of the Sorna stock is now dead. How do you kill THAT many animals in captivity in a massive theme park and not have a PR nightmare?

Third plot hole, pulling it off. If the second and third movie reinforced anything it's that Isla Sorna is a death trap. So how, when 3 dozen heavy armed hunters and mercs couldn't last 2 days there, did Masrani manage to dismantle and recapture every last animal on Isla Sorna? We saw how just four raptors who never spent a day outside could rip through an entire squad, wanna see what happens when armed men go up against a pack just twice that size?

And that's just one raptor pack, Sorna had at least two. And then there's the matter of transporting all those animals which are higher dangerous, often massive (again, 30+ ton Sauropods), and you have to move them overland before shipping them. And they did this to an entire island full and kept doing it even though most of the animals seemed to conveniently die soon as they got to Isla Nublar.

Oh and this is now cramming an entire island of breeding dinosaurs onto an island 1/4th the size, of which is a theme park which only uses 1/2 the space.
vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/jurassicpark/images/7/79/Site_B_and_Jurassic_Park.gif/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/2000?cb=20100517230233

And this doesn't even get into the plot hole of trying to rescue the dinosaurs in Fallen Kingdom anyways. Now that Sorna is gone, where are you going to PUT them? Mainland is a very bad idea, second movie showed that. Additionally, having all of Sorna gone means a vast majority of Nublar's specimens are down to singular individuals. In other words, they're doomed anyways.

And this is on top of all the needless deaths. All the significant dinosaurs from the second and third movie are now all dead. Never coming back. We are not stuck with just Rexy and Blue for dinosaurs and the Mosasaurus for reptiles. Nothing else. Nothing new. Nothing we've been missing for a movie or two. We are never going to see the baby T.rex again all grown up. Never going to see the Buck and Doe again. Never going to see either of the raptor packs. The Pteranodon flock is kaput already. The big Mamenchisaurus is somehow dead. And the Spinosaurus got killed by fanboy demand.

All so we can have a little more tension on a volcanic eruption? Sorry, not biting. The tension could easily still be there as we care about the Nublar stock and wouldn't want to see them die. Claire is the one leading the charge and it make perfect sense if the dinosaurs were Nublar stock as she managed Jurassic World and would feel responsible for them. And by having Sorna still around, it makes for a logical reason to go to Nublar and capture what you can to haul them over to the other island. This isn't progressing, this is backtracking and relying on nostalgia of the first film to make only connections to it. Killing off all of Isla Sorna accomplished jack diddly squat and FK just direly risked knee-capping its own plot.

4804343
Yeah, I understand how you feel, there are still some plot holes that need to be addressed and I loved that scene in TLW with those raptors and I don't get how they were able to do that, but you know movie logic and all that.

4804343 To be clear, most of those plot holes you mention are nit-picking. Most people aren't going to give a shit about most of this and i'm fairly certain this stuff will mostly go untouched on in JWFK, save for a token mention of why they can't use Sorna at the moment (maybe have JW3 reveal that the extent of Dinos being wiped out from Sorna was exagerated).
Well in order:
1. How they pulled it off: This one i have no issues with, the operation in TLW went belly up because of Nick's sabotage, not being overwhelmed by Dinosaurs. A bigger team with a better plan could handle that island, especially if they had the proper firepower to kill the big meat eaters.
2. Extinctions: Again, can easily get a handwave explination in the future that these claims were exagerated. Spino killed more Rexes and it and other carnos got the kids, pull the rug out from the competition. Spino and other larges probably died attacking the capture squads or downed Dinos and the humans had to defend themselves.
3. Fallen Kingdom: easy explination, the group dosen't have a defined location to put all the Dinos, but the eruption was coming quickly and its now or never.
4. Again, hate to break it to you, but a magority of people don't care about any dinos from 2 and 3, maybe the young Rex from 2 but that's a stretch.
The only area where i agree with you is the scale of the tansportation and the islands scale difference, but again, we are still lacking all the details. Wait for the movie to actually come out before completely blowing your lid off.

4804388
Also because I missed it, quick correction, TLW is not two and a half hours. Both it and Jurassic Park are just over two hours and the difference in run time amounts to two minutes.

A nitpick would be something that doesn't contradict the movies or question the logic of them. A plot hole is something that makes one question how did something even happen when it goes against the canon established.

And to tie to #4, actually you'd be surprised. Over the years the view of the second movie especially has actually improved to the point most recent polls either put it as more favored than Jurassic World, neck and neck, or just barely beaten out. Meanwhile the third film is even remembered by detractors as a decent popcorn flick.
http://www.polljunkie.com/poll/scqwgr/jurassic-park-movies/view
http://imdb2.freeforums.net/thread/28448/poll-favorite-jurassic-park-movies

This video well explains it

If a majority of people hated the films, things like this among others wouldn't even exist. Point is, plenty of fans really do give a damn about what happened to the Sorna animals to the point I actually see people who say they hated the third film upset they axed off the Spinosaurus off-screen in such a careless manner. Go look up a reddit post about this reveal, you won't see praises.

1. You forget what happened when just one big dinosaur was transferred. The buck T.rex from TLW killed everyone on board (many of which were armed as we can see guns on the boat and with the hunter group) after waking up just a few hours into shipment. Not to mention pulling off moving of that scale means thousands of men working. That isn't something no one in or outside of this tiny clique in Masrani Global is going to not notice.

2. Problem is they have no indication they were exaggerated and every indication it is exactly as it says. Jurassic World was open for ten years in-universe, meaning this all avoided notice for ten years. They directly state all the dinosaurs are on Nublar and in the tn years they were open they never had another live Tyrannosaurus rex or any other recognizable dinosaur from Sorna. And if they exaggerated and go back on their word, why would they be so thorough and insistent in the first place? That go against the tension you said they wanted.

3. This volunteer, donation funded group who relies on outside donations to operate gets the funding for this huge expedition... and neither they or the donor knows where they are going to put said dinosaurs? Logic is fouled up.

I really am trying not to blow my top but if there is any peeve I have it is backtracking. Sorna was sacrificed just to make Nublar more important when it was totally unnecessary, because they want to ride 1993 nostalgia and overestimated the hate movies 2 and 3 had. In other words, trying to force people to forget it by throwing everything they made under the bus. Again, I insist that even if some folks do genuinely hate the other 2 films, even a BAD idea can have a good use. Because in the end, what does killing off what the second and third movie built accomplish?

So, is all excitement for the movie now gone, and you're just going to go in with nothing but this on your mind?

4804409
No, I won't go in angry. Given time I'll cool my jets. I just know I have less to look forward to as I was hoping for more variety but with the generic designs for the Baryonyx, heavy focus on Blue and Rexy as singular entities, and background material I know I'm not getting it from the dinosaur cast. Human cast still looks good and I an excited, just the fire dimmed some because I've wised up to what they're doing.

Site B dinosaurs are all dead? ALL OF THEM!!!! NANI THE FUCK IS THIS??!!!

Okay Indoraptor, you better be the coolest reptilian monster until King of the Monsters comes out....

4804331
Unrelated question, but why exactly does Ian get hate for his role in the second movie? As I recall he held the position that humans having anything to do with dinosaurs at all (whether capturing them or studying) was a monumentally stupid decision and had no plans on going to Isla Sorna (and even planned on trying to talk the other people out of going there) until he learned that his girlfriend was already there. Even then once he got there and found her his immediate action afterward was to call a boat and GTFO out as quickly as possible until Mama and Papa T-Rex wrecked all their radio equipment. As far as I remember, while he disapproved of Ingen's goals he didn't actually have anything to do with the sabotage.

4804719
For Ian, while he didn't actively do the awful or stupid things Sarah and Nick did, he also did nothing to oppose them outright, he didn't get mad when Nick revealed he stole Roland's bullets as an example. It doesn't help that Jeff Golblum's somber performance made for a really unengaging and irritating lead character. He doesn't deserve to get lobbed in with Nick and Sarah, but he's not winning and protagonist prizes either

4804746
Actually I'm pretty sure there's a deleted scene where he does try to talk them out of it and he implores Sarah to leave the island with him but she refuses and, for him personally at least, contacting the boat and getting his daughter off the island and out of danger was a bigger priority for him. Likewise in the helicopter scene when Nick drops the bullets, Ian was, again, more concerned with reassuring his daughter after they've just barely escaped a life threatening situation and finally have a chance to let themselves wind down a little, I'm not even sure if he even notices Nick holding the bullets.

Still you clarified that you don't think he's in the same category as Nick and Sarah so that's one point we can agree on at least.

4804746
4804767

Just clarifying, yes there is a deleted scene (and an actual scene) he implores Sarah to leave and to be fair when he tries that's right when the InGen hunters show up. Additionally no one knew of the hunting rifle sabotage until they were on the chopper leaving*. He also turns down joining the sabotage, though is adamant the dinosaurs couldn't leave the island. In reality a vast majority of the worst things done by the main cast were by Nick; who was introduced as a Greenpeace activist who joined because the group is majority women, was hired by Hammond as a sapper, and is there for a money. In a nutshell, Nick was never a 'good guy', he's a morally grey "token evil teammate". Just as his opposite number, Roland is the "token good teammate" of the hunters. The two's names, Roland and Van Owen even come from the same source material.

*to give small note to Van Owen, he only removed the shells from Roland's gun when Roland made it clear he was to kill the buck T.rex for sport. Not protection of the group. Other weapons (multiple assault rifles and hunting rifles) were untouched and the extremely powerful tranquilizer darts were left. Nick's gripe wasn't trying to remove their ability for defense, just denying Roland his trophy like he said so on the chopper. For someone who put this note in video format, my friend Klayton did it excellently.

4804746
Alright, now about Nick sabotaging the InGen Camp. Like you, I used to vehemently despise him and call him one of the worst human beings on the franchise. But after I watched the YouTuber Klayton Fiorti's video on the subject(which I recommend watching), and having been put into Nick's shoes on Tarb's RPG where me, Dive, and V had to stop a large paramilitary corporate operation(but with BioSyn instead of InGen) from capturing dinosaurs. I've kinda come to the realisation that Nick may have did what had to be done in regards to InGen, even if it may have costed human lives.

Because Crystal, I bid you this question, what should Nick have done to stop InGen from collecting the Dinosaurs when negotiation was not a viable option? I think it's also fair to point out that while Nick's actions may have had a hand in shaping events of TLW, most of the human deaths that occured in the film also happened from factors beyond Nick's control, it ain't like he could magically command dinosaurs to not attack people.

That said, I still don't like Nick, but I've learned to tone down on my hatred.

4804844
Well, look at that, we just made counterarguments to Crystal, right around the same time(or a roughly two minute gap). :rainbowlaugh:

4804854
Nah, you're good man! :rainbowlaugh:

In the end I always saw Nick van Owen as in a similar gray to Roland and Ajay, just from opposite sides. One thing cut from the film (but preserved in the Topps Comic adaptation which was based off an earlier script) was the idea of 'Gambler's Ruin'. Basically, bad luck snowballs and comes in sets. Once it starts, it keeps going. In the comics it shows Nick learning this principle when the dinosaurs break out in the camp, causing far more destruction than he thought whereas he thought they'd just run off. It unfortunately was something that had to be done. The hunters wouldn't listen to them and would sooner just capture them if they presented themselves. We saw how much damage one dinosaur could do, both in the journey to the mainland (the Buck Rex killing a majority of those aboard the SS venture) and being there (its rampage), imagine if the San Diego incident had more than just 1 T.rex?

Ok, i feel a bit raptor piled here, but to address all points
4804767
To be clear, my original reply to you was clairifying why Ian is hated or disliked (i'm in the later group), basically boiling down to ineffective bystander syndrome for most of the movie and the actors somber and annoying turn as the character.

4804844
4804846
First, while i appreciate the knowledge of other adaptations and deleted scenes, they have no bareing on the actual movie, they're called deleted scenes for a reason.
Two, thank you for pointing me to a potential new youtuber to follow, but i'm afraid the video dosen't actually address my issues. I don't, and never have, thought of Nick as a villain, thought he should've been the main villain, or compared him to Roland in any way asside from general likeability (which is a scarce trait in TLW).
Nick was always a choatic neutral/evil to me, never the main antogonist, and i was certainly never under the illision that we were supposed to like him. The reason i hold him removing Roland's bullets as the most loathsome thing in a JP movie is because its the most direct and deliberate death sentence any human in JP did upon another human. That action could very easily have gotten Roland killed in a dangerous situation (he got lucky that it didn't), and he was one of the group leaders. I don't care if Roland wanted to hunt a Rex, he was more focused on group safety at that point, and killing a Rex may have been nessessary for group survival. i'll also note that he didn't exactly have many openings to disarm anyone else. The other reason i disdain Nick more than the actual villains and other assholes like Dieter is that he suffers no cosequences for his actions.
To address Temnizziv directly, my solution is to not stop the hunters at all. Let them make their new park. All of the actual disaster in the JP franchise are a result of sabotage and human stupidity, not the Dinosaurs own abilities. World ran fine for years before an act of human stupidity screwed it up.

Alright, so admittedly a vast majority of the problems are caused by sabotage and/or stupidity, but if they had decided to just stand aside, wouldn't it have defeated the purpose of their mission?

EDIT: And going by your argument that it's humans' fault that dinos escape. It raises the question of how long would it have been before Dinos escaped the park that InGen was planning from human error? Therefore bringing back up Tarb's counter on why the Dinos shouldn't be brought to the mainland.

Well the problem is that their mission was not really nessessary, as mentioned the hunters had the situation under control and the new park would've learned from the mistakes of the old park. The biggest issue would be animal rights for the Dinos and that would've come naturally anyway to avoid a PR nightmare. The ultimate uselessness and unessessary nature of the mission is one of my major gripes with TLW.
