Pascoite

I'm older than your average brony, but then I've always enjoyed cartoons. I'm an experienced reviewer, EqD pre-reader, and occasional author.

Pascoite gets bored and reviews anime, vol. 68

I started way too many new shows this season. D: 15 of them, plus a few continuing ones. Now my evenings are too full. ;-; Anyway, only one real feature this time, a 2005-7 series, Emma—A Victorian Romance (oddly enough, it's a romance), but also one highly recommended short. Extras are two recently finished winter shows plus a couple of movies that just came out last week.

Pascoite gets bored and reviews anime, vol. 67

Spring season starts today, though that doesn't stock my reviews too much yet, since a lot of my favorites didn't end. Features this week are one that did just finish, A Sign of Affection, and a movie from 2021, Pompo: The Cinephile. Those and more, one also recently completed, and YouTube shorts, after the break.

Pascoite gets bored and reviews anime, vol. 66

Some winter shows will be ending in the next couple of weeks. It's been a good season, but still waiting to see if the ones I like are concluding or will get additional seasons. But the one and only featured item this week is... Sailor Moon, after the break, since the Crystal reboot just ended.

I don't typically like to have both featured items be movies, since that doesn't provide a lot of wall-clock time of entertainment, but such is my lot this week. Features are Nimona, from last year, and Penguin Highway, from 2018. Some other decent stuff as well, plus some more YouTube short films, after the break.

    Time for an interview

FiMFic user It Is All Hell asked me to do an interview, and I assume he's going to make a series out of these. In an interesting twist, he asked me to post it on my blog rather than have him post it on his. Assuming he does more interviews, I hope he'll post a compilation of links somewhere so that people who enjoyed reading one by

2017 post-Bronycon blog #2 · 5:05am Aug 14th, 2017

And now the people! That's the main reason people go to these things, after all.

I found fewer panels I was interested in attending than last year, but I did end up going to some activities with Dubs Rewatcher that turned out to be pretty fun. But the best part is still meeting people you know online, especially for the first time, especially when you didn't even know they'd be there.

As happens every year, I'm sure I'll forget some people I finally got to meet, but I'll cover as many as I can.

AugieDog. My long-time pre-reading colleague, and we work great together. You've gotta be the one I was most excited to hear I'd get the opportunity to meet.

FanOfMostEverything. You really are just as friendly in person as you are online. A pleasant person will never find himself unwelcome.

Singularity Dream. Maintainer of one of the most useful resources out there, and a very laid-back guy.

Georg. Great to finally meet you. I've only lately come to realize how cool it is to work with you.

OleGrayMane. Good author, and had his son with him. I love that it's a family thing, and I expect to see more good writing. Soon.

Novel-Idea. Not only a great author, but a great picture... assembler, I guess I'd call it? Sharp guy, great to talk writing with, and he's already done cover art for me before. Not only good, but consistently good.

Super Trampoline. You're a lot better writer than you get credit for, because you don't typically write the kinds of things that show it off. I think I can say the same about you as a person: past the silliness is surprising depth.

Daemon of Decay. I barely got to say hello, but immediately friendly.

Flutterpriest. I don't know whether you're more famous for your podcast or your writing, but I've enjoyed both.

Anonpencil. Definitely a name I've heard around for a while, but I can never remember in what context. But now I can definitely associate you with the podcast you do with Flutterpriest. Pleasure to meet you!

Horse Voice. We had some great discussions, and for someone whose genre preferences don't always overlap much with mine, we're very much alike. You're super friendly, and the answer I couldn't come up with is Goombasa. The answer was Goombasa. And Lovecraft is still awesome. At least his writing.

Petrichord. You were a pleasure to meet, and an up-and-coming author, based on your finish in Jake's event.

Trick Question. I saw you briefly last year, but never got to talk to you. This year, we finally got to talk a lot, and I had fun sequestering with a couple people and discussing write-off stuff, stories in general, and... too much to summarize. And what a great cosplay outfit.

Hap. Another author I've seen grow in leaps and bounds, and another scientific thinker, much like I am.

Ether Echoes. As I've said before, I've often had a knee-jerk negative reaction to you because I constantly confuse you with someone else, and I can't even remember who anymore, but putting a face to the name has been very effective in banishing that. You've been (and still are) very important to someone who's very important to me, so that's as good as family in my book.

Silentwulv. She doesn't travel in FiMFic circles, so she'll never see this, but I was surprised to find she had an artist booth in the marketplace, so I was able to thank her in person for giving me permission a while back to use art she'd made as the cover for my story "The End of Enlightenment."

NikitaKitten. You sat at dinner with me, GaPJaxie and Dubs Rewatcher. You are an interesting conversationalist, and you carried an air of elegance amid all the silliness going on around everyone. Plus you were a better sport about Corejo's square than anyone else.

And one other that I never seemed to have the opportunity (and maybe the courage) to approach. Always surrounded by friends, as appropriate, and I didn't want to interrupt or intrude. But I will make the effort.

D'awwww! It was wonderful to meet you too, dude! I was expecting you to be really intimidating, which is sort of what I expected from most famous authors, but It was such a relief to find out how friendly you are!

Here's to hoping we'll be able to talk more post-con, eh?

It was great meeting you. Glad I left a good impression. You certainly did with me.

Hap

*waves*

Corejo's square? What did he do this time?

One of these years, man. One of these years. :moustache:

It was still in the afternoon, but Corejo'd gotten a tad lit. He gathered me and NikitaKitten and Dubs Rewatcher into what was essentially a huddle and went on a tangent talking about how we were in a square and it meant all kinds of things. He then enlisted Zyrian to make it a pentagon and got Robcakeran53 in the middle (I can't imagine what Rob thought he was in for, but he played along), only to have Corejo squeeze the pentagon in around him. Thankfully, he broke free, and that was the end of it. An overall strange experience.

4634518
Huh. And here I was thinking that Corejo turning me into a pretzel was a unique experience.

4634520
The beginning of the square was my idea. Everything that transpired after that was a collaborative effort. Mob rule was definitely in effect.

4634527
I would ask why, but given that it's you... :trollestia:

Ooh!

So who was the unapproachable mystery person at the con that we should ship Pascoite with?

Michelite: Michelle Creber. voice of Apple Bloom?
PascoTong: Vincent Tong, voice of Flash Sentry?
PascoGram: Daniel Ingram?

4634529
Heh. No romance was implied, but if you want to host a contest about this, then more power to you. I suspect you'll get somewhere in the range of zero to one entry.

It was really nice to meet you too! :)

4634545 I don't care. I ship Pascogram now.

It was nice to run into you! :D Im happy you had a good con!

The answer was Goombasa.

It knew it! It was on the tip of my tongue! :raritydespair:

It really was great to chat with you, and I'll take your advice on submitting to EqD. Same time next year, eh? :moustache:

had his son with him. I love that it's a family thing,

He infected me with writing, so I infected him with ponies. We're even.

and I expect to see more good writing. Soon.

Yezzir. Queued up next. Honest.

In all seriousness, thank you for spending so much time with me on Saturday. I found our conversation both valuable and entertaining.

4634780
Bonus points if you make it a Displaced story.

4634780
If we ship Pasco with the parasprite, the ship name can be Pascoite.

Teensy bit late here, but! Great to hang out and chat as always, Pasco. You take genuine interest in those you speak to, and believe me that doesn't always occur in the swirling mix of authors in quills and sofas.

Anonpencil. Definitely a name I've heard around for a while, but I can never remember in what context.

Fluttershy puking! Remember all those drawings in Q&S last year of Fluttershy vomiting? That was her and Hazeyhooves. :D

4645230
Sadly, I've never paid much attention to the drawings in there, save noticing I could do about half as good in about ten times as long.

4645239
A shame, they were amazingly memorable :scootangel:
