Review #100 - Celebration at Twilight's, OF CORPSE I'M HILARIOUS! · 4:31am May 5th, 2017

Review #100!!!!! I'm so happy. That I'm this far is all because of you guys, I hope you know that. Anyway, I decided to do some celebration fics today, because, well, I'm celebrating.

Celebration at Twilight's by The 24th Pegasus
OF CORPSE I'M HILARIOUS! by Garnot

Celebration at Twilight's by The 24th Pegasus
(Comedy, Dark)
Twilight has a problem on her hooves. An hour before Celestia was supposed to come to Ponyville for the Summer Sun Celebration, she's accidentally gone and killed everyone dead. As in, "dead as a doornail" dead. Now she's got to fix it before Celestia shows up and finds out.
Or, at the very least, make sure that Celestia doesn't know that they're dead.

Review
Okay, so this one got interesting. I knew all of what it was---a dark comedy where Twilight killed everypony---based on the description, but I had no clue how the author would execute that prospect. And it worked so very well. TSparks in this is incredibly calm for the position she's put in. Anyone other than the book-horse she is in this one would be panicking so hard. But no, she keeps her emotions from ever appearing and hides the evidence. And then does the traditional nervous character stuff of laughing, misdirecting, and making wordplay jokes. With, in all honesty, made me smile. I never want to smile again, it feels weird. And then we have Luna, who just accepts Twilight's answers to the curiosities of Ponyville. And then we find out why at the end. She, too, is hiding something.

I suppose the greatest weakness of this is... um... is nothing an option? I'm not entirely sure what the problem is, but it only made me smile instead of laugh. Granted, me smiling is quite the feat, but the comedy probably could have done better. Nevertheless, still pretty good.

Recommendation: Worth Reading. (Yup, pretty good).

OF CORPSE I'M HILARIOUS! by Garnot
This is a sequel to Celebration at Twilight's
(Comedy, Dark)
Discord wants to enjoy the Summer Sun celebration with the rest of Ponyville. Sure, everybody's already dead by the time he arrives, but it's not like that's going to stop him.

Review
Considering the prequel, I had great expectations when I entered this dark comedy. And I was kinda disappointed. Discord feels ignored, clearly not realizing the situation he's in. He is portrayed as quite emotionally vulnerable when people laugh at him. And a little blind to obvious facts. Meanwhile, we see a stressed out Twilight trying everything she can to resuscitate everypony. And this is where I talk about the greatest weakness, because I'm out of good things to say...

The greatest weakness would be the lack of comedy. As it happens, this lack of comedy is caused by the lack of characterization. While the first one had great characters, this one focused on only one aspect of them. And it greatly suffered for it. And then there's this jarring, upside-down, backward speech in the middle that's just a pain to read. Yes, the author did include translations, but I'm one of those people that looks to see if there's anything different.

Recommendation: Not Recommended. (Yup, it failed on too many levels to go higher).

And now, in thanks to all my followers, I made something:

I currently have about 2 million words planned to read very soon, plus whatever authors decide to hurry up and update their stories.

I think I got this celebratory reading thing down :raritywink:.
