Bronycon 2017 · 3:37am Feb 8th, 2017
Alright guys...
I've submitted my panel. What will you submit?
Here's the deal, doing 5 to 6 panels is fun but exhausting and also kinda lands the message that it's become a bit of a niche. We need more new blood sharing ideas. A lot of you have a whole lot of things to say, things to discuss that we haven't and energy to spare... so why don't you step up and give it a go?
Think up of what you want to talk about. What ideas or themes haven't been discussed? The only thing stopping you is yourself.
"how 2 hoers gud: feat. fimfic staff"
4413619 I'll gud ur hoers
4413620
Rude. Buy me Jimmy Johns first.
What happens if I submit a panel, have it get accepted, then find out that I can't go to Bronycon because of OTC?
4413622 FIIIIIIINE
y u gotta be all like "buy me dinner first"
Just saw this in the submission form:
Other fandoms? Really bronycon?
4413630 Because she's a fine girl who likes fine things.
4413633 they probably felt that they needed that because of less people last year... it didn't help that they did it earlier rather than in August.
"Why there should be a Pretty Pink Princess-con."
4413636 Shortskirts. Join my panel.
And the cost of plane tickets and hotel rooms.
Unless you plan on sponsoring me.
4413635
I just want to watch them burn.
I should submit that sadfic panel again.

You have to attend, at least once!
4413635 Yeah, I know. I feel as if the vendor hall sucked last year compared to the year before that one. Still got some good things, but that bronycon was more fun.
4413642 YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO! It would be epic!
4413655
4413659 You know how well that went. Plus, think of the princesses.
4413619
I'd go to that. Easy.
~Skeeter The Lurker
4413642
YOU AND D TOTALLY NEED TO DO THAT.
TOTALLY FUCKING NEED TO.
~Skeeter The Lurker
4413633
Huh.
Then a "Samurai Jack" appreciation panel might still be doable for me.
~Skeeter The Lurker
4413636 Bruh, you should totally go dressed up as a pretty pink princess with frills on everything.
I double dare you.
I may do another panel about dialogue, covering some other fundamentals about it, or one about themes and how writers can instill them in their stories.
Not sure yet.
4413709 You should do one about endings to stories.
4413728
Perhaps...
I submitted one about writing fight scenes and combat in stories, because if people know me for slaughtering horses, might as well embrace the reputation.
I have a panel Idea.
However it is rather niche and might be hard to do.
How to write as a group. (Since i am a part of a writing team that has continued writing as a group now for three years on one story.)
How to also write to one strengths... however it would need more then one person.
4413633 It's basically a 'Pony won't be around forever, and thus Grow or Die'; it's more 'Widen the tent a bit' than anything. Pony is still far & away the main focus.
As for panelling, peh! Too busy with staff fun. I hardly have time to attend more than 1 panel a year, let alone run one!
Uh... Hmm.
I suppose this bears consideration; I am actually going this year. But beyond a lukewarm AU and more Magic cards than the rest of the fandom put together, I don't really have a lot to offer. I suppose I could hypothetically do a panel on how to integrate disparate media and magic systems, but that doesn't seem like it'll have an especially wide audience.
4413633 Think 'crossover'. We've been doing that for ages.
I'll get back to you, Wanderer: I'm sorting out what to say and when, but I might end up being a really good resource panel-wise. For me, I'll be doing Hoof Of Argon, and I've been talking to GaryOak about screenwriting panel ideas and might be able to do with that kinda what me and Lunatone did with dialogue.
I do know this:
You are so right, we're on the same page there, I'm certain Bronycon feels the same way. It's absolutely not okay for our AMAZING writer track to become a little cabal of expert panelists giving 12 panels each and appearing every time there's a panel: expect to have to focus way down and pick out specific topics for panels and completely kick plot on them. Fewer people, high-concept/high-content (no, that doesn't mean salt and cider, silly ponies) and kick-butt execution. The writing track doesn't have to derp. And, broaden the focus: who is better at expanding the context of MLP? Nobody's better at that than the ficwriter fandom.
More when I can. There's a lot of potential here, and there's a lot of expertise. Could be rather exciting

Themes and endings are pretty closely linked (look at Douglas Coupland for a clear example of endings that directly address the theme rather than bothering to tie up more practical concerns). And you being passionate about dialogue ended up working out pretty well
Got opinions about theme that are as coherent as the dialogue ones? 'not repeating yourself' is VERY good. And now we know you can do it the question becomes, can you find someone who's also concerned with theme and able to work up a great panel on the subject? (if I'm correct about how things are going, I won't be able to panel with you in 2017 but might be very active in the whole process anyway, including coaching like we did)
Well, I've been thinking of submitting these ideas for talks:
- What academics say about fan-fiction: University professors who've heard about fan-fiction explain why we write it and what it's really like. (Tags: Ma Dr Co Sa)
- Data mining fimfiction: Who's on fimfiction? Are they different from bronies at large? How many of each kind of stories do people read on fimfimtion? Is fimfiction a community, or a federation of communities? What communities are there, and how are they different? What does "200,000 registered users" really mean? How many lurkers are there, and how much do they control the featured box? Hear the surprising and disturbing answers to these and more questions, based on website data and online surveys.
- 3000 years of Western literary theory in 1 hour
I would like to submit a bunch of ideas and see which they pick, but I don't want to have to do them all.
4415638 I think the academics one would be a very interesting panel. And very unique.
4413637 4413636 DO IT! THAT WOULD BE A LIT PANEL!
Wanderer, entice Skirts by saying you'll do a panel about how to write cute and fluffy.
With liberally-sprinkled philosophical introspection. And fluffy.
