Not_A_Drunkwriting: Going Live! · 10:51pm Nov 13th, 2016

We're about ten minutes out from 3 PM Pacific time, and episode livereaction is getting started soon! Not_A_Hat is already two drinks in, and I'm working to catch up.

JOIN US: >> discord link <<

(See previous post for details.)

EDIT 4:50 PM PST
Oh god I am drunk beyond human reckoning and FanOfMostEfverything and Scramblers and Shadows are trying to actually write a story because somehow I was talked into giving them edit wrights and Quill Scratch was tasked with editing which is a lost cause and Not_A_Hat and I are basically actively sabotaging whatever story is being created at this point

This is a trainwreck

Join usssssssssss

EDIT, 6:39 PM PST:
We're now livereading the story I wrote at the age of 11, "Sir Lucky And The Dragon"
It is being recorded
There will be so many regrets in the morning

EDIT ALSO AT 4:50 P{M PST

It was the bacon vodka

I basically started drinking straight from the bottle as soon as thorax ate the rainbow sherbet

There was an actual table flipping <--- that was me, I have witnesses

You could hear it on the audio discord channel

And I kept drinking the bacon vodka

I'll regret this as soon as I'm not drunk enough but I'm too drunk to care rn

bacon

bacon

Something something sunset festival

EDIT 5:02 PM:
we have more people soberwriting than drunkwriting
and it's still a trainwreck
I'm not even reading the story
I'm supposed to be in charge of this and I'm pretty much reduced to snarking and giving people edit rights

this is like Twitch Writes Pony

EDIT 5:11 PM PST:
There is tablke flip, I have proof

EDIT 5:33 PM PST:
If you weren't in on the google doc action earlier, here
Join that plus the discord voice and text chat

*checks doc*

Still trainwreck

EDIT 7:48 PM PST
This has gone beyond trainwreck into tire fire
The narration is one of those had-to-be-there events
This is going to be so insanely unusable later

oh my god so tire fire

at least I'm getting a crocheted horizon out of it? or something?

EDIT 9:12 PM:
Things are over! Thank you for the ... 20 or so? ... people that joined us over the evening.

Did this produce publishable fiction? Not in the slightest. Did it produce a listenable livereading? Equally no. But it was fun in the moment. I guess a slightly-less-than-100% drunkwriting hit ratio is inevitable! But I still enjoyed it greatly.

"Sir Lucky And The Dragon", on the other hand, appeared to have been a hit (and/or blackmail bait). And !Hat and I did collab on a short fic on Friday, which we can clean up and release in a bit, which is reasonable reading.

There's a livereading of the drunkwriting that just got posted to Youtube just now:

Shit, I wish I could join you for this. Sadly, I have no idea how much bandwidth Discord eats and I'm on a strict data ration.

If you stay out of voice chat not that much? Of course most of the fun is in VOIP. Not sure how much that burns. I mean, it's an audio stream. So!

4301198
Not as much as you'd think, it's just text. Join ussssssssss

Your regrets will be the least regrets out of any of us

Seriously, if this takes you over your data cap I can sling you some cash or something

That was definitely a thing. :rainbowdetermined2:

That was a delightful way to spend a Sunday evening. I'm happy that I could contribute to the process.

I have that exact same table, omg. :O ALSO YOU HAVE SOCKS WHY WAS I NOT WARNED

Oh gosh how did I help create this thing I am such a bad person heeeeelp

This was amazing.

I hear Lumpo the Changeling will be guest starring in the 200th episode. (Also, I love that Thorax only appears once in the prologue, then vanishes for the rest of the story.)

You son of a bitch. Just look at what you made me do, due entirely to this careless social enterprise.

Veneer (Drama)
cdn-img.fimfiction.net/story/mpgj-1479135642-353929-full

Three days have passed since the Great Change. Ironically, King Thorax is about to be the last bug in the Hive to learn an important truth.

The secret is something obvious he overlooked in his zeal for sharing love. It bears consequences for the entire Hive... and hard facts about who Thorax truly is.

You managed to get me writing again. :facehoof: Celestia help us all.

I'm glad it was fun! I stand by my assessment of trainwreck, but if even sober participants enjoyed it we must have been doing something right.

4301922
LUMPO THE CHANGELING (it's case-sensitive!) needs to be a thing

4302335
I applaud your ability to achieve something positive out of the trainwreck!

That is completely sincere and positive, by the way. I do applaud it. Seeing some enjoyable serious writing to cleanse the drunkwriting palate is probably the best possible outcome here.

I have that exact same table, omg.

No WONDER people confuse us! :V

Man, I'm a little afraid to listen to that recording.

I'll admit I got rather more drunk then I intended, but I don't regret it, so that's all good. :)

Anyways, it was fun and we should do it again sometime! But maybe not too soon. :P

4302827
Yes! We should! (And also share that story that wasn't a trainwreck.)

4301198 If you're up for a bit of a technical challenge (or know someone who is) you might find a program like NetBalancer useful on a metered connection. It'll let you see the bandwidth each program is using, and even set rules to stop/slow programs individually (although only a limited amount on the free version, IIRC.)

So you should be able to, for example, tell it to squelch Discord if it used more than 100mb of your data or something.

I've never really used it myself, but I've opened it and poked around and it definitely seems flexible enough.

4303020 Yes, we should share that one. If you think it needs more attention from me, I'll give it another round of polish. Otherwise, if you'd like to publish it, feel free. (So I don't have to hunt down cover art. :P) But I'm fairly happy with it as it stands, and it's pretty decent for two hours of work.

Oh, I did see you added a clever title. :) If you want me to try and come up with a summary, I can.

4303020
I'm still not sure what Morning was on about waiting for when he interrupted my narrating, assuming you are referring to the work i think you are. Not gonna say my stopping was a bemuséd ragequit, but it was totally a bemuséd ragequit.... Oh well.

The experience as a whole was at worst diverting.

4303546
I remember your narrative voice being shockingly good — do you do readings? As far as people interrupting each other, there was a stew of: 1) alcohol-impaired judgment, 2) weird Discord errors keeping some people from hearing each other, 3) lack of coordination. I mostly blame #1.

I'm sorry for any hurt feelings, though. In hindsight I should have stepped in as more of a Livereading Dictator to produce a more ordered final product without the narrator feuding, but I was watching the trainwreck at that point.

4303489
As a (slightly lengthened) flashfic, whose story arc and pacing are admittedly a bit slapdash, my inclination is to post it in Horizontal Lines (which would obviate the need for a description and cover art). That would, however, sort of bury it. If you're on board with that I can just go do it and signal-boost it in a drunkwriting afterblog. If you're proud enough of this to want to give it a full release, I'll defer to that (though we would need art and a desc in that case).

I should probably reread it and see what I think with a few days' distance, actually. BRB.

4303620 That's good enough for me, so go ahead and do that if you're so inclined. Maybe drop it into the drunkwriting channel as well?

4303546 I apologize if you found me lacking as a host. I'd blame the alcohol, but I only have myself to blame for that, really. :P I may have struck a poor balance between my own enjoyment and that of others, and if so, I apologize. In the end, though, I'm glad you at least found the experience diverting.

4303616 KwirkyJ has, IIRC, done some live fic readings in the Writeoff Discord, occasionally under the name Changeling|mposter. I have recorded some of the ones I was involved in, although I can't remember where/which round you might find links in. (I may have even taken them down if they were original fics...) But speaking of which, I should really see about doing readings this coming round, since pony minific is basically the best possible round to do them.

4303488
Thanks for the info!

4302827 linked this in the Writeoff chat, and I'm glad he did.

Every line of prose in here is glorious.
