New Zealand and Kiwis · 4:50am Oct 12th, 2016

I flew to New Zealand!

I spent two lovely days with my baby sister and her bf who is a sweetheart and we went souvenir hunting and climbed the Mount in Tauranga. I also got wool/possum yarn and it is lovely and soft.

We also visited my 93 year old Grandmother on my Dad's side who not only lives on her own with my Dad's older brother, but still has some vision, almost all her hearing and all her marbles. I call that pretty damn awesome. We had a lovely long visit catching up and sharing stories. The last time I saw this woman, I was ten. Phone calls at Christmas do not add up.

Then we Drove to Auckland and got dropped off at our hotel and slept like the dead.

This morning we went to the Auckland Zoo where I got to see real kiwis! The birds, not the people. I also saw little blue foot penguins and Tui birds who have built in cravats.

On our way out we found in the gift shop a necklace with my name on it. I have a very unique name and thus the two items I own which are personalized with my name were both made custom for me, so I long ago relegated such things to pure amused novelty when they actually have my name, regardless of spelling. This not only had my name but spelt it correctly. Naturally I'm wearing it now.

What have you lot gotten up to? I hear a lot of folks didn't finish their writeoff entries in time.

Can confirm, thought the end date was the 10th and not the 9th.

Gosh, NZ is awesome tho, ain't it?

I wrote about buttsex.

Didn't realize the Writeoff was on until partway through the writing phase, barely got my entry in under the wire, and judging by the reaction, I needed more time.

Still, had a very pleasant birthday and about half a dozen story ideas fighting for attention in my headmeats.

My riding instructor's show jumping trainer is a Kiwi! The person, not the bird lol.

I did not realize you had family in NZ. :O How cool!

Yay for being one of the few who did finish the WO.

The one 'nice' thing about 22 stories is I'm already down to only 3 or 4 left to read and review!

Sounds like a great trip all around!

The Writeoff was a hard round for a lot of folks, but the stories that did survive seem to be a pretty high caliber of fiction. I might not make finals (which has only happened, like, twice ever), and I'm not even mad.

I also saw little blue foot penguins

If your foot penguins last longer than 24 hours, call your podiatrist.

This not only had my name but spelt it correctly.

In Canadian, or transliterated into English characters?

Be sure to get a T-shirt that says "Greetings from Middle-Earth!"
