Your wildest, "I'll never write it!" ideas? · 1:27pm Mar 11th, 2016

So in the various chat channels I'm in, people often talk about their various headcanons for things - which often make great backstories, or just plain stories or settings for various fics - but for one reason or another, they won't write them.

I myself had some earlier, which I have managed to implement in a fic (Dash being a hieress to the Häagen Dash ice cream fortune), but not as the driving part of the story. Merely a fun little backstory thing.

My question to you all:

What is the wildest fic idea you've had, that you're almost sure you're never gonna get around to because it's too crazy, you don't have time, or any other reason you can think of? Something you'd like to do, but won't.

Don't just throw random things out there just to try to find the 'craziest idea ever'. Tell me what you've thought of, and have written down notes for somewhere, but never actually did anything about. Who knows, maybe you might find someone here who wants to see it - or who'd like to write it instead?

edit: oh, now I remember one idea I had.

The bearers are connected by the Elements - in more ways than one. This includes life force. Unicorns might live longer than pegasi by some decades - but because of the elements, that life force gets extended a lot. So they continue to live their lives, until they one day all meet up one last time - to chat, reminisce and so on. Finally, one by one, they fall asleep - until there's only one still awake (mostly likely Twilight). She eventually slip away too.

Once this happens, they all start glowing - then dissolve into balls of light, which shoot up into the air together, then fly off in different directions.

Think of the dragonballs once the wish is used.

The points of light scatter and go to random places in Equestria - specifically, hospitals or homes - where a new foal is born. One of them probably heading back to Ponyville.

Celestia knew this was coming, watches the lights from Canterlot with Luna, and chat about the past and the future.

Filthy Rich was best friends with Applejack's mother. He was in love with her, but she turned him down. He secretly hates Spoiled Rich, and wishes the Apple siblings were his kids, then alternately spoils and avoids Diamond Tiara because he feels guilty for it.

I also like the idea that Applejack has written a book under a pen name and it's considered the Great Equestrian Novel, but she won't write any more and doesn't want to talk about it (similar to Harper Lee or J.D. Salinger.)

Hap

You know what? After copy/pasting a full fifteen of these, I think I'm just going to do a blog post of my own, because I might actually want to write one of these things.

I've always wanted to write a story about Carrot Top being a former member of the mafia. Her real name is Golden Harvest, but ever since she left the mafia and moved to Ponyville she's gone under the alias of Carrot Top to lay low. Only her direct family (her younger sister Noi, as well as an older brother) knows, and a fair amount of conflict comes up between her and her best friends and significant other when her past comes back to haunt her and they learn that she isn't exactly who they thought she was.

And I swear I came up with this idea long before episode 100 and Bon Bon being special agent Sweetie Drops! My friends and I did this in an RP group a good while back, I think before season 3 even started.

I'll add that something I've been working on, though I have no ideas just yet: I really want to know how Zecora just happened to have a potion of Celestia's memories (or a potion of plot device) that only works for alicorns in Princess Twilight Sparkle.

If anyone wants to toss out an idea, I'd love to hear it.

3802813 I fully admit that part of my motivation to write this blog is to get exactly that kind of reaction from people. Link it to me when you write it! :D

3802819 I always see stuff about the apple mafia, and somehow Octy being involve in this. Carrot mafia is an interesting twist!

Filthy Rich: I'd love to read that, actually. And his interactions with Granny would be fascinating.

AJ's book:

:applejackconfused: "Oh Celestia, she knows!"

3802821
The Pensieve in Harry Potter? Maybe Zecora is from a long line of guardians of memories - and she has Celestia's, because she's assigned to Equestria. Other shamans are elsewhere.

Well, there's this one AppleDash story I outlined ...

3802838
3802811

AJ's book

Don't you dare make it that. :ajbemused: She wouldn't know how to write about pegasi. Though I have read a story where she did write something amazing and never talked about it to anypony. It sounds familiar. I'll have to dig through my group, I'm sure I saved it.

I've seen plenty of stories of what I'd like started, but never really finished. Applejack is secretly(or not so secretly like Blue Print's work) an alicorn and keeps it from everypony. Like Sparkler's work.

3802896 I didn't imply I'd make it about that! I was more implying with that line that AJ is in shock. "She knows about my book/my sequel!"

Also, do eeeet. I remember blue print's stuff - t'was good, but it felt like it could be better.

probably a fic about this guy, let's call him Thernobig, who writes about not Appledash.

Have you seen my writing? It's terrible and writing is not something I enjoy. Reading and dreaming are.

I had this idea, ever since Season 3. At some point during that season of MLP, I discovered this TV series called Leverage. To put it simply, a team of five different shades of rogue doing Robin Hood style work. It's a really cool series, and I'd recommend it to anyone that likes crazy mind games.

I'd watched the first two seasons, and pretty much immediately wanted to make a crossover of it with MLP, and I figured the cast would go as such.
Grifter - Bon Bon
Thief - Lyra
Hacker - Vinyl
Hitter - Octavia
Mastermind - Berry Punch

Obviously, I never got around to writing it. But I love the idea still.

Ghost in the Shell fusion, aka EoH as Section 9
I have a few other projects, but they were abandoned because they were stupid, and they technically already got successor stories.

A crossover between MLP and Naruto. It was going to be called 'Twilighto,' but once I started planning it out, I realized how dumb it actually was, and ditched the idea.

Serious reply; probably my Twilight-as-Scootamom fic

Confession time: I have a story about three chapters in called "Nyx and the Accidental Assassin" where a timid unicorn clockmaker who works in a factory in Manehattan accidentally kills a mob boss while in a deep depression, then does it again when discreetly approached, just to see if he is able. Wracked by guilt, he winds up ignoring a third assassination request, only for the victim to fall prey to an actual accident.

Then they send him to Ponyville in order to kill Nightmare Moon (having no idea that NMM is really Nyx). It's fairly dark with a few humorous bits, which is probably why I dropped it about a third of the way in and probably won't finish it. Thankfully, I never started posting chapters, so I don't get nudged to put this higher in my list.

3803114 Oh, come on. And that could be awesome, too. Starting with a CMC sleepover at the castle after Twilight Time where Twilight insists they each provide a permission slip from their guardians/parents, setting the scene of Scoots being raised by an aunt or something if you don't want her to be in an orphanage ("Nobody wants a pegasus who can't fly.") Transition to a few overnights with the two of them practicing their awkward flight moments out of sight of the rest of the town. Mix in a few complications, bring their bonds a little closer, etc...

Here's one: Twist has become somewhat of a loner since she stopped spending time with Applebloom. However, when a Donkey filly named Piedra moves to Ponyville, Twist ends up befriending both Piedra and Featherweight. ultimately, the whole thing would be a send-up of Napoleon Dynamite.

Another: When Twilight was a young filly and Spike was a toddler, Celestia comes across the two of them playing pretend and joins in. At the end of the game, the valiant heroes have saved the princess. So, she rewards them by knighting Spike and ennobling Twilight, and then they go get ice cream (which is of course far more important). However, some of Celestia's retinue witnessed the game and filed the paperwork to make those titles a reality. Celestia finds this shockingly stupid, and begins to flippantly give Twilight ever more ridiculous titles and positions in an attempt to get somepony to question one of her decisions. In the end, she has a long talk with her staff about not following her blindly and telling her their doubts. However, no one remembers to actually remove all of Twilight's titles and positions...

I actually meant Twilight was physically scootaloo's birthmom.

3803181 Oh! Um. Hm. Teenage motherhood, I see. Scoots would almost have to be a secret from her grandparents, because I can't see Twilight Velvet or Night Light not raising her... Or maybe they raised her until Twilight goes to Ponyville, and that would explain the 'introduction' scene with the CMC not seeming to know each other before Twilight showed up. Hm. Stunted wings as a consequence of the teenage pregnancy, possibly. You know, that could work too. It would play holy heck with the timeline, but that's played pretty fast and loose in the comic/cartoon anyway. (See Tank, Hibernation thereof)

3803164

I had a thought like that for a Twilight adopts Scootaloo story. It would start with Scootaloo realizing that the library is a public building where she can spend rainy days reading comic books. S1 Twilight doesn't know many social rules, such as that you should check with a child's parents and not just take their word that they can be out late. She doesn't find it strange that Scootaloo spends all day at the library, after-all, she did the same. Eventually, she starts to invite Scootaloo to have dinner with them when she's still there at closing. Then she stays the night when it starts snowing. In this way, Twilight accidentally adopts Scootaloo. Then Rarity points out that the only other adult who Scootaloo is as comfortable being touched by is Rainbow Dash and everything goes bad for a while before a happy ending.

3803193
Well, my general thought was that Twilight, upon discovering she's pregnant, kind of went into denial and didn't tell anypony, and didn't really look after herself very well. Celestia knew, but Twilight's parents didn't, and Twilight ends up giving birth in secret, and giving her up for adoption, before any parental figures can intervene.

I'm sure some sort of non-sense law could be created to justify why they didn't adopt her when they found out.

3803168 plz to be writing that second idea! :rainbowlaugh:

All of them. I'm an incredibly slow writer. As much as I love reading good stories, to put in the practice to get half-decent at writing would take me ages longer than almost anyone else. Somewhere in the transition between writing-as-conversation and writing as making an independent thing my progress just crawls to a halt. Grinds to a crawl. Something like that.

Anyways, here's a big pile of headcanon that I'm a bit proud of. (Though none of it is actually a story.)

"With her Unicorn magic." (As in, raising the sun, from the first episode's intro.)

There are three basic fundaments of magic. (I never figured out good names for them. Maybe Aether, Phlogiston, and Rocks?) Ponies are unique in that each tribe has an extreme affinity towards only one fundament. (Other species have an innate affinity for some combination of two or three.) Unicorns can use their fundament very well, can with difficulty manipulate Pegasi's fundament, and with extreme effort manipulate the fundament that Earth Ponies have natural ability at. Same deal with Pegasi and Earth Ponies. (Unicorn spells to conjure or help farm food are terribly taxing and make food that's barely edible. Pegasi can manipulate plants like Earth Ponies do, but only on a small scale and nothing like the efficiency of an Earth Pony farm.)

Since time immemorial, Unicorn kingdom raised Sun and Moon with input from almost all able Unicorns every day and night. (Noone remembers who did before them because reasons.) Control of the heavens granted the nation prestige, power, and security above all other kingdoms on Equis. No other nation, no dragon family, no mage clan, and not even any of the Immortals were ever able to fully copy or understand the spell and wrest control of the Sun and Moon from the Unicorn kingdom. Traditionally, this is explained as Unicorns being the race that is superior at all aspects of Aether manipulation. Basically everyone thinks that's bupkis and that the Unicorn kingdom had some secret magical whatchamacallit. The truth, however, is that the spells to control the heavens relies on all three fundaments working together in harmony. The smallest number needed to raise either the Sun or the Moon is three archmage-level magic users, one for each fundament. Just one top-level Unicorn, Pegasi, and Earth Pony working together could have stolen control from the Unicorn kingdom. Not even Discord knows, and often would just use miles-wide illusion spells because actually brute-forcing them into moving was one of the few things that seriously taxed his powers.

So basically, every time Celestia and Luna do their thing at an event like the Summer Sun Celebration, 95% of the magic out of their horns is just a big, flashy, and complicated obfuscation for what they're actually doing. Because otherwise there would be a big World War over the Sun and Moon. Also, this looks way worse as a couple giant rambling paragraphs that it does in my head.

What is the wildest fic idea you've had

Only one? Oh geez.

More than "wild", my ideas tend to be stupidly ambitious. There's that one based on a similar idea to the one you've got there - the bearers of the elements of harmony are not in fact bearers, but actual physical manifestations of the elements - which are alive. So I had this elaborate storyline though out about a war taking place between Celestia and Nightmare Moon back in the day, and the mane 6 (with different names and looks, but still the same personalities) helping out Celestia in any way they can. In the end they all die, Celestia can harness their power to banish NMM, and they'll all be reincarnated in about a thousand years.

I literally have a list of random ideas I may never write, including not 1, not 2, but 3 different Kamen Rider crossover fics, one of which adapting the plot of Ryuki (which includes several characters dying) and another where Sunset Shimmer can do this:

Other ideas include a Mane 6 movie night, where we learn what each of their favorite movie genres are:
AJ - Westerns (duh)
Fluttershy - Slasher Horror
Twilight - So-Bad-It's-Good Science Fiction (Think Plan 9 from Outer Space)
Rarity - Kung-Fu
Pinkie Pie - No idea actually... Anime maybe?
Rainbow Dash - 80s-90s style action

Oh yeah, and there was the AU idea where Shining Armor is the one impersonated by Changeling King Metamorphous instead of Cadance and, since Cadance is the Alicorn of love, the king now has Deadpool level regeneration abilities while feeding off her that let's him survive being fried by Celestia as only a minor annoyance. Mostly it'd be a me taking my own spin on A Canterlot Wedding style fic fix.

Also, Twilight goes Super Saiyan after delivering a World of Cardboard speech. Because I watch way too much anime...

An actual ending to "Machinations of a Trickster" by Deviance.

Oh, one of my own ideas? Mmm, nah. They're all pipe-dreams anyway.

Don't get me started on my ten thousand words in notes for Borderlands: Equestria, Hoof Zero Racing, and my diesel punk/AU mindfuck story, With Fate We Dance.

3803389
I find this quite interesting!

3803474 More is welcome! This also reminds me of the tumblr 'plane sailing' (I think?) by Captainhoers (of spitfire's day off video fame). Clover the clever, and the rest of the leaders of the time, basically looked identical to the m6 - and they seem to reappear every few hundred years or so, as previous elements or something. (Other stuff happens/the reason why this happens is explained at a later point and differs from yours, though).

Well, many plans for long stories and even an extended 'verse'.
One of the 'groups' in this supposed verse was a series of events starting with Twilight putting herself through a needlessly hard test after becoming an alicorn to "be strong enough to make tough choices for Equestria."
This test was going to involve her losing her friends and Spike, possibly the other princesses too, and even her magic. In the end she would overcome everything stronger, but...
The sequel was going to take place many years later, after she had moved to Canterlot to help rule and hadn't talked to her friends in years after a few big arguements. This story was gonna have her set off to use the elements to fix some big problem without the others. Meanwhile the others were going to be following behind her to help, some reluctantly, some out of concern for Twilight, and some out of a sense of duty. In the end they would all have to sacrifice themselves to save the world, but would reconnect at the end, with a huge tear-jerking reunion.
Oh, the second one also was gonna start with Pinkie's funeral, to really galvanize the others (plus I view Pinkie as incapable of accepting falling out with a friend). And Applebloom was gonna be Twilight's personal guard and the only pony to go with her on the journey.
(I may write this one someday, but its highly unlikely.)

As for some other ideas?

- A calamity thretens to Destroy all of Equestia. The princesses decide to use interdimensional portals to evacuate while the Mane 6 use the power of the elements to fuel a shield to buy time. Most make it through before the portals collapse. Years later the Elements are needed for a new threat, but were left in the old world. The now adult CMC volunteer to recover them, and maybe find out what happened to their friends/family.

- Scootaloo the Vampony Slayer, written like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Scoot = Buffy, Sweetie = Willow, AB = Xander, and Fluttershy = Giles.

- An MLP 24 crossover following an anti-terrorist division of the royal guard including a pony named 'something' Flower. Also would be exactly 24 chapters, one for each hour, like the show.

- Mistborn crossover with Zebra's as the Terrismen.

- Drizz't and Jarlaxle ending up in Equestria.

I have many MANY more, but they aren't as interesting. :derpytongue2:

not a fic writer as I suck horribly at grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and plots. ya know a few things needed to write good. but one Idea I had that I was going to make into a 'comic' but never did was a story of scootaloo being fed up with the constant chicken jokes from everypony even her best friends and so she runs off to the highest point she can find to once and for all shut them up. it pan back to her room or the club house (never decided where) to a note that read "I am not a chicken! I will fly, or die trying!" seeing this the CMC tell dash who races off to find scoots. scoots at this point would be falling from the cliff wings spread as dash races to catch her and then it all go black with a thud. that would be the end either her falling to her death or caught by dash but it be left up to the viewer. but for me it be her death simply because the chicken jokes at the time where getting abusive and when you bully some one so much that's how it usually ends. but I did have a plan for a happy ending with her in the hospital and all her friends saying how sorry they were for calling her a chicken and it ending happily.

for me my art skill isn't good enough to get what i want in the time I had so i only had horrible blobs as reference points (not even pony or anything recognizable literally just horrible blobs) and the jokes not as bad so I never did it.

Feel free to flesh either of these out, no permission needed:

Applejack runs for president against starlight glimmer, and has a scandalous relationship with Twilight Sparkle, her campaign manager.

Maud Pie calls on the assistance of the mane 6 when the equestrian geological survey discovers a rising mantle plume that threatens to literally split equestria in two.

In general if I have an idea I start it, but there are plenty I haven't finished, and a few I've just barely started that almost count.

The main six are super-villains, but still good enough friends they have the elements of harmony. The fun thing is pretty much every other pony also ends up a hero or villian, and Ponyville is the equivalent of Arkham asylum. Though mostly because the orignal town got blasted into a crater by Twilight and it seemed like a good place to build a new super max prison.

A transformers crossover (sorta) where the ponies we know are giant transforming (pony shaped) robots, and the transformers are the flesh and blood magical ponies. Optimus is a mayor and megatron an evil arms manufacturer. It starts out on Cybertrot, but then takes place mostly in one city on the alternate Equestria.

I also have another AU story where Sunset shimmer joins the guard and replaces shinning as captain after he married Cadence. I've actually written a decent chunk of it but then realized I have no clue where the story is heading.
