I Came Back To Post One Little Thing, Then I'll Leave Again

I had mentioned before that a book called The Last Centurion had largely read like an opposite day prophecy about 2020. I thought I'd mention a little factoid about the book, due to recent events. Scroll down for a spoiler.

I Deleted My Last Blog Post... Again

Not over racism this time, but because what should have been a forum for civil discussion about the debate had quickly become extremely uncivil. I stopped it before I had to ban anyone, but I've learned my lesson. I'm going to stop trying to discuss politics on my blog, because it is clear to me now that not even Bronies are capable of civil, rational discussion of politics in 2020, and that

I Want To Get This Off My Chest

I keep seeing people posting stuff about how "The virus isn't going away, viruses never go away, you guys just need to deal with it".

Here's some straight truth for you guys.

And here's a link where I cite my sources about SARS.

I Deleted My Most Recent Blog Post

Seeing what the discussion in the comments was turning into, I opted to simply delete it over deleting some of the posts I saw on it. While political discussion is one thing, racism is not something I'll stand for. Have a good Labor Day Weekend, everyone.

I've Got A Book I Want To Discuss With You Guys

Alright. The book in question is called The Last Centurion, By John Ringo. He's actually a sci-fi author whose novels I've read and enjoyed. The Last Centurion isn't so much a sci-fi novel as it is a Twenty Minutes Into The Future Near-Apocalypse Military Campaign tale. The story takes place in a supposed near future where a combination of a mini-ice age and a global pandemic strikes the

Okay, so here's the situation... · 7:37pm Feb 28th, 2016

We authors are a fragile lot...

You would think that after two months, I'd be more or less over it, and in a way, you'd be right. As long as I don't think about... what happened on Xmas, it doesn't bother me. However, when I get to thinking about it, the anger and frustration come right back. If I try to write anything on... that story that I won't name for the sake of my sanity, I feel actual, honest, physical pain. Not hyperbole, or exaggeration: it hurts to think about it, and the fact that it hurts like that worries me. I can't write like that, and worse, that feeling bleeds over into any other story currently on the site. So I can't work on anything I currently have up. I'm sorry.

It wasn't the comments, that was the tip of the iceberg. It was the pm's in my mailbox that went on for a month straight, and the fact that nothing I did could seem to satisfy anyone, those drove me up the wall. So far up the wall that I nearly headbutted the freakin' moon.

I honestly feel sympathy for that guy from Neon Genesis Evangelion, the guy who literally went insane and was committed, because a large amount of his fanbase didn't know jack about his situation and sent him death threats and demanded that he change the ending to the anime. The main reason the second half was so lame was because they literally ran out of money halfway through, and when the movie, End Of Evangelion came out, it was more or less the rage of a man driven mad by a fanbase that was completely unreasonable about things he could not help, but they demanded that he change.

I do not want to become that guy. Seriously. I love you guys too much to ever want to become like that. But what scares me is that while it is distant, I can see it on the horizon, and it worries me to no end. So, here's what is going to happen, for the sake of my sanity, and so that I can continue writing for all of you.

What's Your Story, Morning Glory? is cancelled, effective immediately. It cannot continue if it is literally going to drive me insane. I won't take down the chapters, but it can no longer be worked on. I know I promised another chapter, and I may instead do the story of the Manehattan Incident as a one shot, but I cannot work on the story proper anymore. I'm sorry, it is over.

My other stories are on hiatus, also effective immediately, until my mental state has improved sufficiently that I do not feel pain, anger, frustration, or depression while working on them. I'm sorry guys, but this is why you can't have nice stories: Some jerkwads came along and broke the author.

I am working on a new story now, and hope to begin posting chapters come 3-15-16. The Ides Of March. Strange timing, but what can you do?

Anyways, I love you guys, and you are always on my mind. I'm sorry that my own issues have caused me problems on this site, and when I can get over them, I'll pick up where I left off on my other stories. Please bear with me until then.

I'm sorry for what has happened mate, and I wish I could give you a hug to try and help you feel better, but this is all I can do. *huggles*

I am eager to see how your mood shapes this new story.

You dont have to do anything if you dont want to. You dont have any obligations nor you are responsible. You should not listen to people. People are Bastard Coated Bastards with Bastard Filling.

I personally think that you have a great sense of humour and hope to read more of your stories but it is a fanfiction website, it is not a work, nor family. If you dont want to write or if it causes pain and torment to you, you should simply quit it. It doesnt worth for you to suffer.

Get a fluffy pet and drink some beer.

I don't drink, but I do have two fluffy pets.

:fluttershysad:
It's really sad to see the story go that way, but it's understandable given what you just wrote.
Indeed, this is why we can't have nice things. And even worse - no matter how much praise you get, the bad stuff gets you down more than the good stuff uplifts you.

I just wish you all the best - I know I'll love the stories you will come up with (haven't yet read something from you I didn't like), I just hope that those jerkwads will just leave you alone.
Wishful thinking, but hey, hope dies last, right?

Have a manhug! And a cookie. A manly cookie. Made with love. By changelings and ponies. For you!

...I honestly don't know what to say to this. On one hand I want to say "get better soon", and on the other "take all the time you need", but as someone who went through more psychological/emotional bullshit as a minor than many do throughout their lives, I know that delaying things too long would be just as detrimental as rushing them. So I guess the best course would be to take your time to recover, but don't just ignore the issue and hope it goes away, keep dealing with it little by little, as much as you're relatively comfortable with each day, and always remember that there are those willing to support you... even if it's just some random crazy person offering their questionable advice on the internet.

p.s.- I for one love your work and don't understand the complaints. I pretty much had the reaction of 'what were you expecting from this particular story?' when I heard about them.

you owe us nothing, thank you for what you generously give anyway

Oh... Another of my favorite writers has been broken. Well, I can't say much, I honestly haven't read Morning Glory, im going to go do that, and see why some assholes broke another author of mine. That's 5 now! Come on! Why can't people just go along for a bit, and have some faith.

awww i really enjoyed morning glory:applecry: but im completely fine with it being over if it causes you that much pain and suffering. I hope you get better and start to enjoy writing again:twilightsmile:

We're just tickling the fringe of what Hollweird goes through on a regular basis. Imagine the stress of having 200 million dollars put into your hands to make a movie (like Green Lantern) and watching the reviews that claim you are all flavors of horrible. Admittedly, you wind up with a good fraction of that 200 large in your pocket, which makes the resulting spite a lot easier to deal with...

I'll never understand why some folk are such born again assholes... Somebody gives up their time to try to be creative, to produce something fun and interesting, and I honestly thought you were, I was enjoying Morning Glory, and all they can be is vindictive.
But it is your work and it is entirely a labour of love, you do it because you want to and you are not answerable to us, and certainly not to a cretin with a weed up his butt and a void in his head.
I hope you feel better about it soon and come back with a smile on your face.
In the meantime, have some pony!

chin up man we will be here when you get back

Just do what you need to do, take time off and relax when your at your best so when you come back you come back stronger then before

It wasn't the comments, that was the tip of the iceberg. It was the pm's in my mailbox that went on for a month straight, and the fact that nothing I did could seem to satisfy anyone, those drove me up the wall. So far up the wall that I nearly headbutted the freakin' moon.

What? You got all of those PMs sent to you regarding "What's Your Story, Morning Glory?"? That's insane! I had no idea you were repeatedly getting bashed on because of what you did to that story. :fluttershbad:

I'm not sure if this might help, but I hope that you take some time to refresh your mind and recover from those awful stuff that you experienced a while back.

I hope things start looking up for you soon. I didn't realise it was becoming so bad for you the last few months. These words will probably be only a small bandaid on a lardge gash but every bit helps, at least I hope it does.

If it's any concelation, most writers go trough this fase and deal with fans like that. There's not much you can do about that except percevere, hang on and remember why you started it all. Keep in mind you are the one telling the story, not any one else. It sounds a bit sellfish, but a story is a personal version of ones vision don't you think.

Like always, I'll look forward to your future projects and hope you have fun while doing so.

Signed:
Random dude you don't know

I'd like to say something about how I feel bad about your situation, but everything I think to say rings so hollow. If you think of a way I can help, please let me know. I'm not sure what these idiots are complaining about, I've enjoyed every fic of yours I've read so far.
Hope you feel better soon. Deus tecum.

I've honestly been waiting for more of the Changelings in Equestria. I think those got a great start, and I'm really invested in the Changeling under the bed one and Mole Cricket. I think that they are awesome and funny and I wish there was more. But if you feel you can't do it, I won't nag you. I love my readers too so I get your pain a bit. If you want, you can come read some of my stories. I'd recommend Beneath the Blood Moon and Bright Little Shadow because those stories are going to be getting some awesome world building that I'm so excited to share. Particularly Blood Moon. I hope you enjoy.

I'm sorry it's brought you to this point, and while I can't say I was caught up with the latest story, I'm sorry it came to the point where you had to cancel it for your own well being. :pinkiesad2: I hope things improve on your end.

Wow, dude, that shit hurt you hard. Maybe you should seek professional help? Find good psychologist, and in several months you'd be better.

*hugs* I'm going to miss the updates. I'm selfish like that. But it's good to take care of your mental and emotional health. I just finished rereading I am going to save and/or destroy Equestria and I still enjoy it. I didn't have a problem with the chapter you removed. You're the writer and it is your world to play in. I am very much of the opinion of if a reader doesn't like something, they should just stop reading it, and don't need to be jerks about it (like me and Fallout Equestria, I tried reading it, didn't like it, so I stopped and didn't bother leaving comments). So, if you ever create a closed group to finish your writing in, please invite me so I can continue to enjoy the various works.

Well... as both a writer and someone that thoroughly enjoys reading your work, I can't say I'm not upset about this.

Don't misunderstand, I'm not mad at you one little bit. I'm pissed at everyone that harrassed you over it. Your work is something special, something I see far too little of, even as a pre-reader for Equestria Daily.

I hope you feel better, and that you at least continue to craft stories. You are better than you think you are, and I for one will always be around to support you.

I would just like to say that you were one of the authors who helped me get into this fandom with your magnificent work. I admire your ability to weave comedy with drama in such a subtle way, and I have never once been disappointed with reading any of your stories. That is more than I can say for quite a few other writers I've seen here and elsewhere, even a few bestsellers. Having majored in creative writing I can say that you are a master of literature, and anyone who says differently can go the hell.

Even if you don't post anything else here, please never stop writing. You have far too much to offer to the wider world.

Dafuq is wrong with people?

Take care of yourself, mate, and remind yourself that the problem is those jerks harassing you, not you.

That really puts things in a new perspective. If you aren't stallion enough to make a public comment on a story, a pm about it is probably a mistake.

I wanted to link an "it lives picture" as a funny thing, then I read the post. Damn you are a downer. And yet I can't really fault you.
I never in my life felt something like what you must feel currently, so I can't really emphatise you, nor can I say anything to help you through it.
But remember, for every insane, brain-dead, insulting, or whatever bad attributed fan, you have like 100 who are not. And while it may sound weird, but getting bad PMs about your stories means people care. Albeit some of them are doing it the wrong way.

I admit ( I think I even wrote in the comments for the story) I personally thought the story of Morning Glory was good and done as a one shot and making an actual long story of it is streching it. And yet I read it and enjoyed it. Very much so. And I'm sad to see it gone.

Every one of your stories is good story, well written and can suck you in enough for people to think they should send threats if it goes in a way they don't like. I'm pretty sure it's an everyday thing for people who write for an engaged audience. Which is kind of discouraging now that I think about it.
Note to self: I'm bad at making people feel better.

Maybe you can write the stories up early, slap the whole thing on the site faster than anyone can react, then run away to a safe distance?

I would post some sort of long positive/inspiring reassurance/reinforcement for you...

But I think the rest of you guys got that covered.

For what it's worth, I'm sorry. I never intended anything I said to hurt you. I'm sure that many others who posted their criticisms feel the same. However, my intent does not justify my actions. I was a dick and I'm sorry.

I hope you feel better soon.

Best wishes. I've enjoyed your stories, but naturally your mental health comes first.

You say you felt like you didn't please anyone, but the fact is you pleased the vast majority. A few people became hypercritical, but those few people were just that, few. A writer should be able to take criticism, but part of knowing how to take criticism is knowing when to reject criticism. The comments in the stories, and especially PM's are in a sense like words said on your property, and whenever someone goes around being a jerk and ruining everyone else's fun the responsible thing is to throw that person out.

Regardless, whether or not you do start writing here again, know that I've enjoyed every single thing you've written here, and I hope for the best in your future.

Best wishes to you, I hope you can find enjoyment in writing again. I enjoyed all your stories, and if you feel up to sharing more eventually, I'd love to read it.

It's a shame that some readers felt the need to harass via PM. It strikes me as a very poor use of time, and ultimately counterproductive. Biting the hand that feeds you and all that.

This is disappointing to learn, I'm always sad to see a story end like this, for whatever reason.

But your sanity and good health are a lot more important than any horsewords, and if the latter comes only the expense of the former, then you have no choice.

Maybe (hopefully) you'll take another look at this story some day in the far future and feel that it merits another shot.

It always struck me as odd, the kind of people who would rip on your work. Particularly that one who'd said that What's your story, Morning Glory? had "the same problems as all your other stories."

Bitch, if you haven't liked any of his stories, why do you keep reading them?

Honestly, it seems to me that most of those that hate on you do so because they know they can hurt you, and they want to hurt you. Because some men really do just want to watch the world burn.

Just remember that we like your work, because it's your work, born out of your own idiosyncrasies. Even if the whole site should turn against you, we'll still be at your side.

Don't worry about it, if people don't like the direction the story is going, just tell them to fuck off and write their own story.

Blunt, I know. But most of the time it works.

Just want to add my voice to the chorus of support. I was really enjoying the story, even tho it went in a direction I never expected. But there's nothing wrong with that in the least! If everything went as I expect, there wouldn't be much point in reading a story, now would there? :ajsmug:

Chin up, fellow brony! Know that you have supporters here and many of us who enjoy your work just as it is!

I'll keep the story in my tracking, and if you ever come back to it, I'll be there to read it. Thanks for your efforts!

I've not actually read that story, so I had no idea. That's really rough and absurdly unfair to you. I hope that your decision brings you peace on this.

Take all the time you need.

JMP

I am so sorry that it's come to this. I loved What's Your Story and was totally fine with the plot you had planned out for it. I hope you're happy, haters!

long post, will summarise: What's Your Story, Morning Glory? is cancelled and everything else is on hiatus because people just keep hating on them

Memo to responsible individuals: Look upon your results, you jerks, and despair.
No, seriously, look at what you've done. You've broken a perfectly good author. Shame on you. Some of the rest of us were excited about the author's works, and now we're not going to get them (soon, or ever, as applicable) because you selfish jerks had to do that. Shame. Shame.

(To author: I'm looking forward to this new thing you mentioned.)

Man:rainbowderp:. I was afraid you might have been getting some flak after seeing some of the drama with the latest chapter of I Am Going To Save And/Or Destroy Equestria! but...wow:fluttershysad:. I wanted to say something when it seemed like you changed that last chapter cause of the haters but I figured you had enough whining to deal with. I doubt I can say anything to encourage/comfort you more than what's been said already but I hope you hear this one out. While you recover and get over the haters just remember you got a lot of fans here that love your work just the way it is. I'm not just talking about blind agreement or optimism, but also those that actually debate (debate not flame) point by point of your stories because you managed to draw them in with your humor and
get them invested in each piece. You might have some here who whine about quirks in your story or jokes that can't seem to get but you have more that love your stories for those quirks and can't get over those same jokes. As bad as these commenters may be getting to you just try to remember that your profile is full of fans that love your style exactly as it is. Me and several other fans have been eagerly awaiting updates for these stories and we'll be waiting here as long as you need to take and ready to write back any support we can offer if you ever need it. We're just a post away.

From one of your many concerned and dedicated fans:yay:.

Well man that was just wow...I thought you changed that chapter because you couldn't top it, because I was like omfg that shit was the most amazing thing I've ever had the pleasure of reading in my whole life and I honestly don't think I can survive the hype that my mind has built for the next chapter oh sweet god that was just pure goddam greatness comparable to mankind landing on the moon to me in my insane little mind, but back to the point I honestly, and sincerely hope that you feel better and that all those jack offs get what's coming to them for hurting someone so undeniable amazing.

Nah man, someone beat the stuffing outtah ya', And yer usin' excuses:derpytongue2:!! LOL!!!
JK man!!! In all seriousness though, since you had not been updating your storys, I was worried about you:fluttershysad:!!! I thought that that maybe you had gotten injured or that something happened with home life!! But if this is all that it is, then I have a suggestion!! Work on one story at a time, and plan and prewrite chapters for that one story! Say you started one story, and you had other ideas. You could work on the one story, turn out a chapter a week(maybe), turn around when you finished and published a chapter, and planned future storys!!! So when you ended story #1, no more chapters, nothing more, nothing less, you could start another story!!:pinkiehappy: If you don't like this, its just an idea, if you do like it, I hope you enjoy this method!! I stand in full support of you sir!! Mustaches for you!!:moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache:

My words are hollow but I am sorry for your pain. You know what makes people feel better? Money. Make a Patron and see that there are many here who will put their money where the mouth is and pay you for your work. Go with peace.

You know what man, do whatever you gotta do. Take some time off, relax, etc. You deserve it, and we the readers aren't at all entitled to argue. It's sad to see What's Your Story being cancelled, but you're still a fantastic author, and I'll patiently and eagerly await your next idea. :fluttercry: Keep strong, okay?

I'll miss your stories, but I understand and wish you the best. Its to bad people don't understand it's your story and what ever happens, happens. for whatever reason.

Sorry for any typos or lack of sence I'm a little sleep deprived

Sorry to hear that you've had such a rough go of it. You're in good company - just about every other author on here I really like has gotten the same level of shit. Guess it's human nature to try and cut down the tall poppies. Frankly, I'd rather be a Pony. I'll miss your old stories, but your well-being is more important.

Take all the time off you need and relax. We can wait .

That's too bad. I may haven't liked the 'Suddenly: Groggar' swerve, but after you said that no, it wasn't supposed to be a 'Setting up the Final Boss and giving a deadline' situation, I really wanted to know how it was going to unfold.

I dunno, maybe I did get used to the way you added swerves, although 'Morning Glory's may have been pushed a little too much into our faces... too much emphasis? Again, I don't know.

Still, hopefully you'll feel better. I may have not felt like that, but I do know what it's like to feel down by nasty commenters...:pinkiesad2:

That sucks man. Never feel bad for taking a break when you are the creating content for us in your free time for free. Take all the time you need.

sorry dude
don't really know what to say

Well, I am at least glad to see you have spirit enough to want to keep writing. Hope you feel on the up and up, and I will be awaiting your next story in the meanwhile.
