There are season 6 spoilers in this post.
A video tease of the new season (which is coming in spring, so much for the whining from certain quarters about the super-long hiatus that was surely coming) has been posted today, but I can't watch it because yahoo are plebs and have georestricted it. Fortunately EQD has come to the rescue with a few well-placed gifs. So what's all the excitement? What great new stories can we look forward to in this season? What worldbuilding, what adventure, what—
Ok, admittedly I should have seen this coming, and despite what you might think I'm not actually all that bothered about it. I just like beingsalty sometimes. 
And there are positives to consider though!
She's not Skyla. No, that lovecraftian horror has been consigned to the garbage bin of destiny. Or perhaps she's locked in the attic and only fed a bucket of fishheads once a week.
She's a story arc! Admittedly only a little one, but we're still firmly in "things can change" territory, which means less chance of stagnation.
There's so much story potential! I'm already expecting a flurry (haha oh god) of fanfics about her and i'm pretty sure some of them might even be good, which would be nice.
Finally: She's cute!
Though she'll never beat best filly...

I'm a tiny bit troubled by the "born alicorn" thing that apparently is going on there, but I'm going to give the show the benefit of a doubt. They've taken ideas and plot developments that could have crashed and burned, and pulled them off well in the past.
The actual baby is a bundle of cuteness, though!
Why does this baby have normal eyes, whereas every other canon depiction of infant ponies has horrible soulless demon eyes?

Seriously, either Lesser Alicorns are a dime a dozen, live their mortal lifespans, have a slight chance to pass on their appendages, and die off, or we've got a big freaking hole here. Every "worthy" pony can sprout wings and a horn, and then their offspring has a chance to keep 'em? Unless they have a tiny chance of producing Alicorn offspring, one Alicorn parent pumping out the foals would have started a dynasty of 'em by now. Let's not even get into the potential implications of an increased lifespan.
3718619 It's a stage they go through. They start out with their baby eyes, but then those fall out and the new ones take a while to grow in.

3718635 Maybe there just haven't been any alicorns other than celestia and luna up to now. We're witnessing the birth of a new species.
3718635 We're clearly watching the revival of a dead race.
Something (Discord?) happened ages ago leaving Celestia and Luna the only remaining alicorns, and they're so old that they're long past childbearing age. But now that we have fresh and new alicorns again, the race has a chance to slowly rebuild.
Aka, get a move on, Twilight. Those alicorn foals aren't going to birth themselves and it'd be unfair to make Cadance handle it all.

But seriously, I'm okay with it. The days of "two and only two" alicorns are long behind us, we might as well go bravely forth into the horny and wingy future.

Going by Twilight's reaction, this one still is an abomination, or at least an aberration. Infant alicorns should not be, or at least fly in the face of her expectations.
If this doesn't lead to at least one story casting Cadence as Shub-Niggurath, I will have to take matters into my own hands. "The Pink Mare of the Ice With a Thousand Young" has a nice sound to it.

Starlight Glimmer will probably end up being an alicorn, within a season or two.
Meanwhile Sunset Shimmer is condemned to non-canonville, living with the knowledge that Starlight Glimmer basically stole her story-line and life.

To be serious though, I'm not so sure how to feel about this. Just don't, *don't* show a scene with her flying and Scootaloo looking forlorn in the background.
The thing that reassures me the most about that spoiler clip is that Twilight is astonished that Flurry Heart is an alicorn. And even Shining Armor seems nervous about it. So clearly this is something the characters in-universe weren't expecting either, which means that there's going to be at least some in-universe addressing of the question of what this all means.
I will now wait to see what the writers come up with before igniting my torch. :)

Perhaps they realized how souless they looked and have made an artistic change.
Just because she's cute doesn't mean Flurry "Skyla" Heart isn't an also a Lovecraftian abomination. I feel confident predicting that devastated wasteland in Equestria's Darkest Timeline occurred because in that reality, Shining Armor and Cadance had their daughter a few years early.
Man that horn... ouch. it's no wonder Cadence looks to worn out and bedraggled when they pan over her in that shot. I'm fine with the wings, Hasbro can do what they want and it'll be sure to sell toys. While I'm not very accepting of alicorn OC's, I'm quite desensitized to them appearing in the show now for whatever reasons. The reaction to it on my feed seem mostly positive as well, save for the few people making sure to vent their rage all in caps. As they say, it is what it is.

Twilight looks astonished, but is she astonished by the wings being present, or by them being freakishly huge?
Maybe this is the replacement baby that Chrysalis left behind after kidnapping the real Flurry Heart. Maybe Twilight and her friends will have to go through some kind of trial to get her back. Maybe some kind of maze? A Labyrinth, if you will.
Also, I still wish they'd have winged foals be born with naked chicken wings. That'd be hilarious.
