[MBF,L] New Story Announcement + Thoughts · 5:54am Nov 18th, 2015
Hi all,
So, a few things to get through here. Let's get started.
New Story.
Last time, I gave you all some more details on two new fics involving our favorite batpony, Stella: One anthro, one standard pony. Like last time, I'm sticking by the assertion that the anthro fic will come out first (I haven't even figured out entirely what's happening with the nonanthro one) and I've finalized exactly what's going on with the former... including creating a story profile for it. Let's take a little look what's coming after MBF,L with a peek at the (tentative) description...
A magical experiment gone wrong pulls Fredrick Himmelreich from his world and into the anthropomorphic land of Equestria. Him being ripped so violently from his universe necessitated a small stay in the castle’s medical wing, but the worst wound of them all was learning the fact that he will never be able to return to Earth whence he came. Princess Celestia and Luna, knowing that Fred’s predicament was their doing, instantly offer him indefinite residence in the castle and bestow him with Equestrian citizenship, among other things.
A week after his arrival, he meets and befriends a Lunar Guard named Stella Sabre, a cute, Scottish-accented, and foul-mouthed batpony mare. Simply asking for directions is the start of a powerful, yet equally unlikely friendship between a calculating, level-headed human and a headstrong, fragile-tempered thestral guardsmare. Such a friendship, however, may prove bloated when both parties, as dense in their own rights as they are, decide to ford the next step in their relationship. Will they prosper beautifully? Or will they ruin themselves in finding out that they’re simply too different for anything beyond a strong friendship?
Does any of this sound familiar, if a bit more refined? It should. A few comments way back got my gears turning and I'm announcing My Other Best Friend, Stella. Just as it sounds, it's what I like to call an AU Transpose. Taking (somewhat) verbatim from a comment: "What would happen if Fredrick got with Stella instead while having a more, true good-friend-like rapport with the Princesses?" Well, this is exactly that. As such, many elements, in the beginning (and one or two throughout) will be the same. However, things will progress MUCH DIFFERENTLY in this AU scenario. This time, I'm making a few notable changes:
1) I'm emphasizing Fredrick's past life a lot more (mainly his friends), and adding more realistic shock value to the fact he cannot return to Earth; a small journey of acceptance with the help of his friends in THIS universe.
2) The, what I like to call, the 'Best Friend' trap. As the last paragraph above states, there's a huge risk in dating someone you're already close to as a friend. REALLY BAD things can happen. What happens? You'll have to wait and find out.
3) Longer chapters. I liked the 4000 average length, but for my goals, that won't suffice anymore. Expect longer chapters on average.
4) Much deeper characterization. Since I liked the average length so much (inb4 that's what she said), a lot of times, I did sacrifice a bit of characterization and building... one of the mistakes I felt I made in MBF,L. With longer chapters, I'm going much more in depth than normal. I'm used to doing deep character building anyway, so it won't be much more of an issue.
All of this without sacrificing any of the humor, banter (especially with Stella), the clop, and all the other good stuff. In fact, I'm hoping to make it even better with more breathing room.

Remarks.
The notable changes are a product of my review of my own work. There've been some good fics, clop especially, making the feature box and it makes me examine my own stuff. I see all the awesome comments being left on said stories, and I can't help but look at my own and ask myself: is this story popular because it's actually structurally sound and good? Or just because it has the promise of a lot of sex while being just mediocre everywhere else. I ask that for all my stories, even for my oneshots which some of you may follow... though I can't complain about them because I make 'em almost entirely about the sex there. In relevance to this story, I do realize there are things I could have done so much better, but ultimately, I just want people to be happy with the end product. As such, I'm taking extra precautions come the next time and the remainder of this story. Fimfiction, hilariously, has helped me discover one of my greatest faults: heavily comparing myself to others. Seeing these good fics eclipse even my own (granted, anthro doesn't get much love for many reasons, both valid and invalid) makes me just want to create something to put me back on top again. I intend to do that here.

3550047 Oh god no, I don't think I'll need that much space on a regular basis. I'd say on average 6 to 8, maybe a bit more every once in a while depending on what's happening.

Really looking forward to what you do with it - as you said, the best friend trap will cause some tense moments. Which will probably make it even better. Can't wait!

For a story that would focus on the risks of dating a best friend (perhaps even higher stakes considering A) first best friend of sorts B) guard and C) its STELLA! ) I think this would be a good idea for drama if nothing else juggling the fact everything you ever knew and loved is now beyond reach and contact all the while trying to date awesome and date it well despite the perhaps obvious difficulties and whatever dating a guard, Thestral,
crazymare like her may bring to the table as well. Overall looks good on paper, which is probably what a good story ought toImagine when "that-somepony" found out this alternate universe and she thinks it's hot :

I'd love to see some racist happens and Stella got into trouble with other night guards (well, except for Emeralda tho, she's cool. A chapter telling her and Stella's friendship would be nice, if you don't mind)
You mean "characters-POV-switch" or something ? It's hardcore but I'm impressed some authors can use it effectively ( Dudeler is one, with his "The Model's Secretary"), maybe you should try that.

Remember you have your own fans who you've been making their lives full of joy and good laugh with your unique style and hardworking, isn't it not meaningful enough ?
You may think other stories are cool and all but how do you know if someone's reading yours and ask themselves the very same question ? Without you knowing, you can be the motivation for them to start writing or improving their own story, exactly what you're feeling and doing!
What makes you different makes you special, friend. Make the best out of it.
