Changes (Tags and Stories) · 8:16pm Nov 15th, 2015
Apparently your blog count includes deleted entries, so my 100th is less relevant than I'd like. (EDIT: It's even more confusing! Apparently the blog count shows your maximum blog count. So I'll have to count all my blog entries to know when 100 is finally coming.)
Anyway, I need to list a bunch of story changes, so here they are...
Despite the recent episode, I continue to hope she's secretly still Flutterbat.
Publishing Changes
Flash in the Pan is now offline. I'm truly sorry, but I'm still not sure about it, and I don't want it up right now.
Tag Changes
The Sound of One Hoof Clopping and Polyphileos have no tag changes.
Back to Normal, The Laughter I Choose to Be, Girl Talk, and Escaping Treatment gain the Drama tag and keep the Sad tag.
The Price of a Smile and The Element of Surprise gain the Drama and Mystery tags and keep the Sad tag.
(EDIT: I've also removed the Adventure tag from The Price of a Smile, as it isn't really what the story is about.)
The Knight and the Knave gains the Drama tag, but loses the Sad tag.
The Clarity of Darkness gains the Drama and Sci-Fi tags, but loses the Sad tag.
Twilight's Secret Journal is a tagging nightmare. It should keep its four tags (it doesn't have Sad, by the way) and gain Drama, Horror, Mystery, and Thriller. But you can't have eight tags, which is ridiculous considering how many categories overlap. You can only have six tags. I obviously have to leave Dark and Romance, so I'm dropping Alternate Universe (even though it clearly is one) and Adventure (even though it clearly is one). I chose those two because the AU content begins at the end of Season 4 and only exists for a couple of months from the characters' current perspective, and Adventure is an overdone tag that I don't think is as relevant for what ponies are trying to find in TSJ.
Upcoming Stories and Changes
Here's what's coming up from yours truly, in the order it's likely coming.
My Current Writeoff Entry (color chosen to hide anonymity) will be published the moment the Writeoff ends.
One Head of Cattle is a third offering from the previous pony-themed Writeoff that I'm almost ready to publish.
(Name Not Yet Determined) (not the actual name) is a late entry for the current Writeoff. This is what I'm currently writing, but it won't likely be published until after the first two.
Back to Normal is going to be rewritten (though not heavily).
I'm considering rewriting most of Twilight's Secret Journal (not the bulk of the content, just the writing and formatting) before continuing further with it.
That's about it for the near-term agenda.
My Changes
I like writing stories and I want them to reach ponies who will enjoy them. I'm considering adding back the mention of the two awards that The Price of a Smile has won to its title page. Depression taking a decent dip has also influenced that.
I'm not sure about anything else, though.
Does anypony have opinions or advice on what I should be doing with my stories? And which stories?
If you're running into the tag limit you are probably overtagging your works. The new tags are supposed to help *reduce* the number of tags a story needs, not increase them. Story tags aren't supposed to be content tags, they aren't meant to be a list of everything that exists in the story; rather, they're meant to indicate the primary themes of the story. Personally I think mixing tags like "Alternate Universe" and "Human" into the same category muddies this fact for many people. There should be a separate set of content tags for things like that, so that they wouldn't have to conflict with the actual story tags.

I'm not sure what you're asking.

I don't agree. Story tags exist for two reasons: to help ponies find stories they might be interested in, and to warn ponies about content. Tags like 2nd Person and Equestria Girls and Dark should always be present when they match, and the first two are new tags. Six seems a little restrictive to me.
3545361 That's why I believe they should be split into "story tags" and "content tags". So that you can warn about content without conflicting with the ability to properly tag what sort of story it is.
