Story Recommendations #6 · 6:54am Dec 28th, 2013
Been a while since I did a legitimate post such as this. Lately, I have been recommending stories by authors I edit for, but since I am ready to go ahead and make this post, I am doing it. Be prepared, because this is going to be a long one. I would like to thank my friend Malus for being the drive for me to increase my reading speed. Literally, I read faster over night because of him. I mean, he didn't really say I should, but when he reads Hard Reset in a few hours, it gets kind of crazy. Anyway, let's get on to the post!
This one is actually an old story that I read way back when I was but a newbie at this site. But I never actually got around to liking and faving it. So, I decided to rectify this problem, and it makes for a fantastic recommendation. Being at 2k likes, it really deserves them all. It has an intriguing idea, and it is executed nearly perfect. The only qualm I have with it is that the pacing is off. Things move far too fast, and he didn't spend a sufficient amount of time with proper description of the battles, in my opinion. But the ending was spectacular, and it left a long-lasting impression on me. I think this definitely deserves a 9.5/10.
This was a really interesting fic, and I am glad I snagged it when I was accepting incoming fics for Twilight's Library. What makes this fic interesting is the idea that surrounds it. To not spoil anything, it is all about this book that is properly titles Epiphany, and . . . well, it is quite the interesting book indeed. The question that this story brings is: if you could know everything ever, would you choose to read it? Maybe it is better to go and smell the roses instead. 10/10.
I have already told him this, but I truly believe that this is among the top ten, maybe the top five stories ever written on the site, and is in the top three stories for me that I have ever read. While seemingly long, this story drives home a very good tale of coming to terms with your faults and not letting them get to you. I would really, really love to tell you what that said fault is, but that would ruin the surpriiiiiiiiiiiise~ 11/10.
I would have something to say about this story, but I have a rather deep, personal angst towards the author, so I am just going to keep this short. It was a good idea, but the first chapter felt like a one-shot. I give it a 8/10. Also, don't comment on his story. Ever. If you have any constructive criticism, he is a total ass about it, and he thinks you are "attacking" him. Just . . . don't do it. Fucking asshole . . .
I have been meaning to read this particular story for a long time, and I am so glad that I ended up getting to do so. This story starts out with the idea of "what if Rainbow Dash was Celestia's student instead?" With this, the ball started rolling, and it became an alternative universe show following Rainbow Dash and her attempts at being herself. The flow was perfect throughout, and the charaterization was glorious. There were a few people who thought that a the internal conflict climax was OOC, but I vehemently disagree with them. It was a fun read, and it didn't take too long to read due to me reading faster. 9/10.
Since there is a lack of a real picture, here is a picture of The Treaty of Paris 1783
This was a rather short story with a really large idea. And because of this, I really don't have much else to say but to read it. I wouldn't call this the greatest story, but it does have power. 8/10
I started reading this story due to an interesting premise: an alternative "A Canterlot Wedding." It is all right, I suppose, though how it is handled with Twilight is odd. She just seemingly goes AWOL without any forethought on it, which is what happens in the actual episode. But it does handle Pinkie rather well, and brings a cool idea to the table. I'll be tracking this one closely.
I was introduced to this story by my friend ToixStory, and man am I happy I read it. This is another one of those "X disappears out of nowhere" stories, but with Twilight being the one who disappears. But where she goes and what the consequences are is what drew me in, not to mention fantastic writing. Truly, this guy is a great writer. And being his first story with over 100 likes, great writing, and no dislikes, he has a great future ahead of him. Unfortunately, the writer is on hiatus due to familial issues, so you will most likely be seeing new chapters next year. I will be tracking this one closely, and you should, too.
Besides the story art being needlessly large (seriously, it took forever to load up when I opened it up in a new tab), this story takes on a route similar to Know Your Mare in terms of secrets. Except these are real secrets, and everyone can see them. Honestly, it is an ingenious idea, and it is handled rather well. I would be careful on it, though. It really gets edgy in spots, especially with Twilight's secret. But if you can get past that, it is a fantastic story. I will be tracking this one hard.
This was one of my more proudest moments in terms of reading time. I read nearly 30,000 words in three hours. Definitely the best example of how much faster I have been reading. Anyway, this story is . . . interesting. I really am not sure where to put it. According to the author, it is a crossover with some basically unknown short film that was by the same name as the story itself. Or maybe it was just Sintel. I can't remember. Either way, it was . . . interesting. The writing was phenomenal, and the idea was fantastic, but the way it was executed was . . . odd. I was intrigued but confused in all the possible ways, and the ending left me feeling . . . well, I don't know. Literally, this story was such an emotional roller coaster that . . . UGH, I DON'T KNOW! 8/10
My good friend Golden Vision told me to read his stories, and so I did. I like Doctor Whooves crossovers, and this was pretty good. It was cute, but it suffered from pacing issues and a confusing plot towards the end. But GV's writing was solid, and while it felt odd, I did enjoy every moment of it. I give it an 8/10
And right off the bat, I read another one of GV's stories! This one was super, super cute, and while seemingly ridiculous, it was a fun read. The only fault of this story is that it has none. It takes its Slice of Life tag to its roots; every chapter is just another crazy shenanigan. The final chapter was really well done, though. Either way, I love how all of the characters were characterized, especially the ones that have no voice. GV did a fantastic job with that. I definitely give this story a 9/10.
This is another story that I reviewed and deemed acceptable for Twilight's Library. It is unfortunately rather short, and is one of its major downfalls. With that few words, everything seems clunked together, and Luna crying reminded me of my own story, with it seemingly holding little meaning due to it being so sudden and without proper build up. But it excels in being a very cute, heartwarming story. I may not be the largest fan of TwiLuna, but this one was pretty good. 8/10
Since the picture used for this story does not deal with the story in the most important aspect, I will state that the foal is actually a changeling/pony crossbreed. Now, who's it is and why it happened is for you to find out; I will only give away so many details. XP Anyway, I read this story because it was rather interesting, it is has proven to be just that. It really like to curtail on the dark and sad edges of things, but it seems to always come out of it far better off anyway. This is an extremely intriguing story with many of the internal workings, such as forced nursing and the fact that it talks of nursing and nipples without seeming like a clop fic. I really like that. Either way, it is a great story thus far, and it is well worth a read.
And my reading spree actually stops here. I haven't gotten very far into the story, but it is most definitely worth a recommendation. This really plays on the comedic tag it has, and I love every moment of it. Trust me, the idea of Twilight and Pinkie switching bodies for any amount of time is hilarious, and I cannot wait to see what hi jinks and shenanigans ensue. I cannot recommend this one enough.
Originally, I had never read this story. But after CvBrony asked me to edit it, I could not pass up the chance to do so. Honestly, this is up with some of the greatest Rarity fics to be created, in my opinion. He handles her quite well, and since Rarity is badass to boot, this is quite the intriguing read. It is set in the Rites verse, so if you have not read it, do so now. I mean, come on, I edit it. How bad could it possibly be?
I have seen and read many of the greatest, most innovative stories to touch the face of this site, and this one stands above them all, if you can believe it. This is something I call the greatest Christmas story on the site, and definitely one of the best stories on this site due to how much work was put into doing it. Literally, this has never been done before, and I have not seen it done again. And the story was so utterly adorable that I could not help but gush out this fic. I rate it the all exclusive 12/10. This is a must read.
Holy shit, wow. I should never let my queue get behind like this. It took me two hours to write. Oh well, I am happy to be over with this. Unfortunately, this is where I get off for the night as well, so anyone expecting me on Skype, I am sorry to disappoint. I am exhausted, and I have to mull over some things that happened at work that put my position there in jeopardy. Don't worry, it isn't something I cannot fix. But it will be something I have to do.
Anyway, that's all I have for today. I don't know if I'll be able to get the next chapter of Nightmares out before the new year, but I will try my damnedest. If not, well, I'll have it sometime. Don't worry.
Night, everyone.
I have fucking diabetes from this picture, on my God.

Well, then you have made good choices by reading them. XP
How bad is the author to Scootaloo's Sunrise Surprise?
Obabscribbler on youtube does a great dramatic reading of For All to See. link
Also, Secrets Shine Brighter... I am going to have to disagree on that one. I have been following it, but it feels like a bit of a trainwreck to me. I didn't think Twilight's secret was 'edgy', it actually felt a little ham handed to me.
Other than that you got some good fics on the list.
Though I did have to laugh, the scootaloo sunrise author, I saw a few comments.

For Twilight's, maybe not so much edgy as it is ballsy. I almost expected that. But it was edgy in the fact that it deals with some heavy, forbidden material. But so far, I am enjoying the story, so that's what counts, right? XP

Haha, of course... we all have our own tastes in stories that aren't all compitable with others... trust me, I follow some complete trainwrecks myself, and love them anyway.
