    It's another boring one! I ain't wrote nothin'! :B

It actually feels lately like I've been crawling out of a pit? So maybe there's a light ahead? But it's also blocked by Balatro lol somepony save me D:

The only other thing relevant to this blog is that I've had notes for a vs. post sitting in my notes document for probably the entire month now, what is wrong with me? D:

Fic recs, April 22nd: Jordan179 edition

Once again, though a good bit late, I bring it upon myself to memorialize an author via reviews of their stories. Though this time, it's different, as I had no connection to Jordan179 and only learned of his passing (three years ago this month, coincidentally), from this post

Another post about video games and Youtube and stuff

If I'm going to waste time watching shit on Youtube, the least I can do is tell people about it. :P

Ceave is a crazy Austrian with a love of video games and a head for philosophizing about them. Plus he really, really hates coins, no matter how tasty they may look.

Do you like video games? How about philosophy?

I like one of those things for sure, but no one combines the two better than a Youtuber named InfernalRamblings, a former professional game developer who now creates hour and a half long video essays about the meanings of video games and how they relate to the world today. Here's a few highlights, since this is now basically my only

The Pre-Reader Battle! · 3:10pm Jun 27th, 2013

This is a preliminary post just to signal boost all the stories (and talk about mine).

The Pre-Readers did another prompt-swapping write thing over the last week, producing something like eight stories one of which hasn't been turned in yet because Nines is dumb. Here's the list:

Rocks by NTSTS. Prompt: it's a spoiler actually, I'm not posting it. :B

Stuck by Polecat. Prompt: "Le epic pony face."

Love by Proxy by Pascoite. Prompt: "She could do nothing but watch as the consequences of her actions unfolded." (That was mine! :D)

The Misfile by Alexstrazsa. Prompt: "Word travels fast."

A Warm Meal by Noble Cause. Prompt: "She's not really as good of a cook as she thinks she is."

On a Moonless Night by kits. Prompt: "On a moonless night."

[THIS SPACE RESERVED FOR THE SLOWLATE DUMBBUTT NAMED NINESTEMPEST]

I'll be reviewing these later in a fic rec post, so you can always wait a couple days for that. :B

Now, let's talk about my story, Fallout: Equestria - Aegis, an abject lesson in how not to get views on a submission. I'm honestly slightly surprised by that; I thought it would sort of gather its own momentum simply by being released, but then again I also just sort of threw it onto the requisite group without any fanfare, and I should know better. :B So we'll see. I don't know if I'm going to submit it to the EQD compilation post just yet; I'm considering seeing if I can't get some more feedback on it to fix it up a little more first.

Question: do FoE side-stories need a crossover tag, or AU? I know jack all about the game, so as far as I'm concerned, I'm borrowing from FoE, not Fallout.

So here comes the requisite If you liked this story, check out these/If you liked these stories, check out Aegis:

The Profits of War (ponies with guns)
Pinkie Pie, and Nothing More (sad, character study)
Fluttershy Goes to Hell (dark)
ACT OF WILL (dark, crossover)
Ponies Debate Gun Control (if you actually wanted to know some of my opinions on guns)

As for the rest of you, well, don't you trust me enough to elevate the source material at least a little bit? I mean, that's what I tried to do. C'mon, gimme a chance! :V You don't need to know jack about FoE other than "post-apocalyptic ponies" (though if you don't like that what's wrong with you, you're perfectly fine skipping it). Sorry for party rockin' being whiny. :B

Or, I could press the wrong button. I am such a moron.

So, after a few moments to consider that maybe my exact level of sarcasm might not have carried quite the way I'd intended it to, I'll roll with a little more tact:

Rocks – While I'm still a little miffed at NTSTS, I can't deny the epicness of this peice, even if I don't like the actual writing much.

Aegis – A close second. Way more interesting to actually read but overall it only loses out because the competition was so strong.

Stuck – What a fantastic take on such an obscure prompt—top marks for a fully formed story structure, too. I'm not a huge fan of the narrative style, or the unnecessarily colourful application of said-isms, but a pleasant read nonetheless.

Love by Proxy – I suppose safe is the best way to explain my reaction to this. The quality or writing I expect from Pascoite, but the story itself is just too familiar to elicit anything more than 'meh'. A distant fouth.

A Change in Scenery – Nicely written, but in the end, the character motivations felt too wooden and the whole story lacked the cohesion to make it particularly interesting.

A Warm Meal – Eh. Some stuff happens. Kinda nice but in the shadow of the first two it's main feature is simply that it didn't suck. This is relevant because certain other fics may have failed on that score...

Misfile + On a Moonless Night – Everything I absolutely hate about fanfiction in one concise package that I want to dump in a black hole. Hate, hate, hate, hate, hate. I hate 'em. No, really... just awful.

I am miffed at NTSTS for being a way better writer than me. >:V

...How did I not know you wrote ACT OF WILL? I bought the original book because of that fic, and I plan to get the sequel when it's released soon.

I would just put AU for FO:E fics.

I see this blog post title, and all that comes to mind is "EEEEEEPIC FIC BATTLES OF HISORY!"

FO:E is always crossover because it borrows it's premise and story from Fallout. FO:E is NOT an AU because it takes place in canon Equestria, in the future.

You know what I want? A crossover between Fallout and FO:E.

1172534
Well, not strictly 'canon Equestria', because it's still a fanfic. I highly doubt we'll ever see zebras blow up the world or whatever in canon Equestria. :trixieshiftleft::trixieshiftright:

1172608

You are talking about believability and continuity. FO:E fits in neither category, obviously. Canon is just the overall lore and setting and "rules" of the universe.

1172622
See, this is why we need a 'Twilight is exactingly precise about a minor detail that nobody else cares about' emoticon.

C-c-c-combo breaker!

But no, really.
4 Fallout games each with their own protagonist. 4 FoE ponies.
The 4 horsemen of the apocalypse.

That requires actual knowledge of the games. :B I just like post-apocaponies.
