Outline for the next chapter of Hearts, Hooves & Hands is done! Slight catch, the outline, no dialogue, just an outline is almost 5k words. What was supposed to be the next chapter may have to be broken up into a couple of chapters. I'm about to go out of country for a week so if I don't manage to get good access and post a chapter then given my outline -> actual story conversion ratio then when I get back you'll probably get a couple of chapters...at least. Man I can't believe I wrote that much.
Odd random question to the people crazy enough to follow me. Does anyone have good examples of stories that are action oriented or with good action scenes that don't completely fall flat given the setting of MLP:FIM?

Canon MLP is pretty freaking peaceful besides the random villain of the week. So fics which have fights, wars, angry disputes leading to epic conflicts over toast! Anything that escalates beyond throwing pies and isn't absolutely awful or forced. I'd even be happy with some good fight scenes.

lol. Sorry. Most of the action scenes I know include humans one way or another.
Definitely need more pony on pony action, if you know what I mean.
sentient flowers? Well there is one fic, it doesn't describe the fighting perfectly and it isn't a mlp fic, but the way it describes the fights are charming, little details, but being satisfying. Warning, it is based on a game with a great plot but is mostly known for the rape. Yes, rape.

Have you tried The Upheaval series? It has great action scenes with mostly ponies doing the fighting. Or do you mean a story with a strong premise for the characters to fight one another, that reads like it would be part of the show?

To name a few that come to mind:
1) The Stranger and Her Friend (one of the folks helping is a sword fighter, and it shows in the writing)
2) Blue Angel (a few memorable fighting scenes, especially the one in the Gilded Griffin was fun [note: it also contains humor, so not everything is 'realistic', but hey, magical ponies])
3) Falling Stars (which you already know as you've edited chapters for it)
4) Tinkermane (ponies with steampunk like tech)
5) Titanomachy (gods duking it out)
6) Quantum Castaways (mostly "FFFFFFF!!!!" and running for your life, but done well)
7) Visionary (the final battle in the story could be an interesting case study)
Think that should suffice for now.
Also, you're surprised it turned into multiple chapters? I already knew that when I saw the first two pages of the outline you wrote. And that was before you wrote another 4 pages.
Which reminds me, I'll need to go through what you wrote.
