So, theory discussion time!
So, NSFW implications aside, what do you think the possibility is of seeing Opaline again?
Do you think the roots of her tree will violate her with kindness, and she'll emerge seeking redemption?
Hm... It really depends on how much longer G5 lasts. I could see them trying to redeem her like Discord if we get more MYM seasons.
Apart of myself does wonder we might actually see her again, while the other says we won't. Tbt I have no clue mainly because mym has a unknown future atm with tyt taking over in the coming future.
OK not that kind of NSFW that you imply but... what if when the tentacles violate her with kindness also merge with her and create a hybrid a la the goddess in foe or the crystal tree spirit, or a combination of both? But yeah if they want to scrap the G5 they wont bring her back
Heck, they could have her play the classic long con by pretending to be repentant, just so she can get her revenge at the opportune moment and diss both Twilight and the idea of redemption at the same time.
Of course, there would also be the chance of her slowly taking a liking to having actual friends before the big moment of betrayal comes up.
It wouldn't surprise me if they forget about her as she a "meh" character to begin with.
I don't know if we see her again, I mean, compare to MYM and TYT, MYM showed her last appearance when her Cutie Mark was taken to the roots of the tree, without her mark, she has no power, and she was pretty panicking when she was trapped within the tree when it grew on the remains of her castle. And truthly, she had centuries of experiences, way older like Celestia and Luna, but not even she can change, Cozy, Tirek, Storm King, Sombra, and Chrystalis are examples.
Other media have taught me that a character isn't confirmed gone until you see the body. But a kids show like this wouldn't want to show a body. I'll echo what others have said about her: that depowered and imprisoned, she has no chance of escaping without outside help, and short of unleashing her to distract the Mane 6, I can't imagine someone who'd want to, especially considering she wasn't that good a character to begin with.
Part of me actually wants G5 to delve more into this "Skyros" place. I don't exactly imagine G5 toying with the idea that alicorns aren't necessarily good and that the G4 ones we've come to deal with are outliers, but I'd like to know why exactly Opaline got dumped on the rest of ponykind instead of the alicorn civilization dealing with her properly.
Considering how quick they were to move on to another villain after Opaline's defeat, and one that already showed more signs of being a competently written villain, I can't imagine them bringing back Opaline regardless of what happens with G5.
I seriously hope not
Hmm...
On one hoof, she is a major part of both the (arguably) main character's and G5 Equestrian backstory, so I doubt that she'll be forgotten completely. On the other, a new villain has been introduced and it is possible that writers are planing on having a new villain for each "arc," so she'll probably be limited to call backs and flashbacks for the most part, unless we get a villain team up for the grand finale or something like that.

I like the idea that the Alicorns aren't infallible. Ponykind might revere them as gods, but they are NOT. They're just as selfish and grasping as anyone else.
Beware of gods with mortal shortcomings.

Isn't it kinda canon that they're not infallible? The most obvious example example I could think of is Celestia banishing Luna to the moon.

Unless they actually explain it more deeply, I think it's safe to treat Skyros as the 'Mount Olympus' of Equestria.

So then the Alicorns are like the Greek Gods? Well, based on this site they sure have enough incest...
To be honest, I'm not really sure. It feels like G5 has really gotten lost when it comes to where it's going. Feels like Hasbro didn't do a good job on trying to reignite the spark that was seen in G4, where it became a cultural phenomenon.
I'm afraid things are going to get worse I'm afraid.
G5 movie went well. The MYM series, well, looks like it's in tatters.

Let's not look too carefully into who Zeus is if we want to avoid things taking a rated A turn.
Well, I have to admit, I DO kind of like the theory in a way (especially if we actually get a "Redemption Promotion" out of the deal).
And, to be honest, a fair number of comic book villains have gotten out of situations as bad as getting depowered and ensnared by the vines of a sapient tree (if not even worse).
But most of the other responders ALSO make really good points, especially the point concerning how it SEEMS more likely that we're going to get a different new main villain with each arc. But it doesn't eliminate the possibility of a villain team-up in a grand finale.
