Once every several years, creatures from across the world gather together to watch a rare species of Equestrian butterfly begin its migration. For some, though, the event is more than just a spectacle.

Cover image is The Pink Cloud (1896) by Henri-Edmond Cross. I'm no art expert, but I'm pretty sure it's in the public domain now and thus okay to use here.
Concept was conceived from the prompt that was the Arboreal Yearnings Contest I (Trees), though obviously it wasn't finished in time to submit.
Also my first story on the site--feedback would be appreciated. Hope you enjoy!

This was a great story, especially considering it's your first here. Great atmosphere, pacing, and sense of detail. Heartwarming without being sappy. You had a few mechanical issues here and there, but nothing distracting. Overall, you did a good job with this!

That's great to hear, thanks! I was really aiming to nail the atmosphere, so I'm glad it worked. I was wondering, what do you mean by mechanical issues? Do you mean some syntax or spelling errors, or something more egregious? I've always found it difficult to reread my own work for mistakes, so there's a good chance that I missed something, though I did make a few earnest attempts at proofreading.

Yes, I was referring to issues with the writing itself, rather than anything more high-level (plot structure, tone, etc). Granted, the things I noticed were so minor and so uncommon that I hesitated to even mention that, and I can totally believe that you did proofread this, although even I tend to miss some things when proofreading. If you'd like to hear my nitpicks, feel free to PM me.
