i like this! the way rarity still tries to tiptoe around starlight's guilt while her literal worst nightmare is happening to her is great drama... i think rarity and starlight have a lot in common that folks don't really explore much, they're both singularly driven in a way that's much more focused than twilight's broad curiosity. the description of the mental cage the spell places on rarity makes a very easy link to the idea that it did permanent damage, but i almost wish it went the other way and rarity was able to access her locked-away creativity only while under its influence - i guess that'd better suit a series as starlight figures out how to juggle that need to help rarity with her own guilt over controlling somepony.

Funnily enough, that was the original plan. It was more or less at the last moment I decided to hard turn in the other direction. I may explore an alternate ending with this premise in the future. I'll have to see how I feel. I'm glad you liked the idea, though!
