Celestia is one of my favorite princesses and really like the potential for character in her. Not necessarily because of the show, but because of what the show hinted at in the past. I love exploring her in little bits and pieces.

I don’t know about the political relationship between Merriedamme and Canterlot, whether it’s vassalage or something more. Regardless, the northern settlements can’t help but make me feel antsy. The tide of Equestrian civilisation now pushes north regardless of Merriedammes actions.
Were I Roseate, I’d probably see the writing on the wall, of Celestia attempting to further incorporate the region into Equestria. Inspiring the releasing of my gaggles of drunkards and sex fiends against Equestrian settlers as opposed to just Merriers.
Though they’d probably of sobered up by the time they get to the actual settlements, maybe paradrop the sex fiends into Equestrian settlements?

That'd be quite the sight to see, paradropping, militarized partiers. Like Dionysian Maenads dropped into misbehaving Greek city states. The model of Merrie and Damme is very close to those, actually. Poleis that didn't integrate into the greater whole. But that's where the analogy breaks down since the Poleis of Greece were all famously independent and didn't even fully unite against threat of invasion from Persia or, later, Alexander.
I suppose the closest they are is marginally independent city states that operate under the loose guidance of Equestrian law, but also have a spate of local laws that aren't present in larger Equestria.
Most of both cities would probably be ecstatic to know that the frontier is expanding and they won't have to worry about bandits or losing trade along the overland routes - cheaper, but slower than by ship and only during the travel seasons of late spring to early autumn.
Though there would be the worry of their individuality being quashed by the larger Equestrian cultural wave.
Roseate may very well do some nasty things later on, when it's becoming clear that she's losing, to try and burn it all down before she's taken out of power. Carapace and I have discussed the limits of what she may be willing to do - and there aren't many - but we haven't actually written that far ahead in either of our stories. Right now, her angst and ire is focused on local threats to her power.
I hope when Rose Way comes out it’ll draw attention to this story. I’m honestly surprised that it’s not had the amount of views a story like this should have.

I hope it will, too. I suspect a lot of the concern comes from the "OC" as the only character tag. A lot of people like reading about the characters they fell in love with in the show. I love those stories, too, but I also love coming up with characters that live in the same world and flesh it out more.

It really is.
Nope.
Nooooope.
We'll get to see her more in the Interludes chapter after this book is done. The entire interludes, I'm thinking, will be her. I have some of it written, but I need to rewrite parts of it.
I'm not sure what else to call it either. I just think of them as a qouple. ... a terrible pun. Just terrible. *giggles madly*
Friendship is Magic after all, you silly mare.
OK, so off topic but this made me laugh. One of the other usernames that I have uses Platinum in it, and in one place that I use it, they only call me Plat. So I had a double take there and then giggled my ass off.
Oof. That hurt me, let alone Collar.
I mean, this sounds counterintuitive, but Rosewater and Collar need a smidge of fear attached to them if they're gonna go up against Crazy Horse Mom and the Prissy Feathers go end the war. A unified front of them both should be scary to those buttholes.
I realized that if we go full ship square here (sans Rosewater/Rosemary), Collar would be her husband (Collar Rosemary), adopted Dad (Collar/Rosewater), AND in-law (Collar/Rosewater/Cloudy config somehow). Boy howdy is that confusing.
But yay! The Collar and Cloudy date is coming up!
And congratulations on the new kitty cat! May the new Meow be fuzzy and loud and cute.

It makes perfect sense, and some of that threat will be retained. There's a lot of ponies who aren't going to fully trust Rosewater, basically forever.
Lorewise, in the past, when mother and daughter, mother and son, father and son, fell in love with the same pony, a very rare occurrence, don't get me wrong, but when it has happened, the same kind of confusion has arisen on what to do with the pre-marriage bonds. Obviously they're still related, but they're more equal in the marriage than they were when it was parent/child dynamic. This would typically happen later in life, usually after a first marriage, not in a case like this where it's both of their first marriages.
Polyamorous parent/child inheritance law is well settled, but where child/parent and marriage inheritance law intersect, there are problems. Family line inheritance law hasn't really been amended to handle this in Merrie since it's not something that comes up very often, and is handled by a magistrate if there are any disputes over who inherits what.
As you might imagine, wills are pretty darn common in Merrie. More so than they are in Damme - but they're still very common in Damme. They're just a lot longer in Merrie, and more complicated. There's a cottage industry of former and aspiring magistrates who make businesses out of doing nothing but writing inheritance contracts.
