Axel probably was overcome with embarrassment when Serenity ran off to catch Jolie. Him sitting there covering his crotch with his forelegs. That seems like something he would do.

It’s probably good that she found his little secret. Him holding that in for so long probably would not have done any favors to his mental health. And hey, it worked out in the end when she did find out.
Serenity knows exactly where to keep him on the edge. She knows what she is doing hehe.
