Six years have passed since a pandemic transformed a quarter of the population of the United States into ponies. Magic has advanced far in that time, but its formerly human users will soon find that they have advanced too quickly and recklessly.

Ouch to all of this. Jessie has been doing far more then she ever realized all becuase the adults where trying to help her be a foal.
As for Sunset this is going to be very epic of an ending. She may cause so much damage that even when they beat the Deavours she will have made it that much harder.
Way to go. You'll stop your sister from crying about her friend by repeatedly smacking her with your wings until she cries from that. Jackie, you're a genius!
Oh damn, Robby got sent on a sleepover when Jessie was born, and he was just having flashbacks to that. Jessie going on a sleepover right after Dusk was born might make that worse.
Sunset Blessing is a confirmed Satan worshipper.
I'm sure nothing will go wrong with getting the psychopath that they have locked up under armed guard involved with fixing things.
The name of Sunset's cat cracks me up every time it's been brought up . Lots of red flags with Jean, and I can only imagine how it's going to go when they try and step in and intervene or end the spell. Have fun at the con!
Don't forget pictures.
If Wild Growth wasn't so mad she might have noticed that something wasn't right with Sunset when she was on the phone with her. Sunset was even using pony pronouns in that conversation which is completely out of the ordinary for her.
I like how Rosetta jumps in and basically plays parent to Robby in this scene and that Robby listens to her when he was talking over his father. It shows how much of a parental figure she has been to him over the last six years.
Sunset Blessing continues to be one of those hard to gauge characters. She isn't really a villain, she is misguided, but she really does have everyone's best interests at heart. Just best interests in line with her vision of how the world should be. Interesting that she backed down and admitted she should be doing more after she was already off the phone.
How adept a mage is Sunset Blessing? We know that she is not that powerful, but power and skill are two very different things. Is she really that important for figuring out what is wrong with the spell? She definitely seemed to be doing some advanced magical theory crafting as soon as she got news about Jean.
One of the things I said may have gotten lost in me essay. To bring it into focus:
I suppose we all know about EQG. The very character who caused every single event to happen in this setting is at the heart of it. We all know how the basic rules of it work insofar as entering and leaving it. Ponies and “Mythical” beings that actually exist on one side are given functional human bodies and those of “regular” creatures when crossing from one side to the other. When earthlings go the other way from Earth to Eques they take on the likeness of the natives there, which are all some form of mythical creature.
Our core and chief character has set up permanent residence there and deems it home. She has found a niche, a purpose that would be vacant if she ever left it. In spite of all this, and the fact she looks like a human, she is not. She is very much equine as always, function and shape be damned. It’s all a guise, a facade imposed upon those who enter environments they would not be suited for.
Numerous fics around EQG follow this logic including FF. That alleged human is actually a pony like the rest and those allegedly being converted are simply having their natural state brought back to the surface and the guise removed.
Pandemic Shimmer cracked the code and extensively used a guise that gave her the appearance and function of a human without actually altering herself and without it having to happen by pure circumstance. When she committed suicide, she took her secret with her, leaving no record of what she did or how she did it. If ever it comes back, it has to be completely rediscovered all over again. So far everything has been a leftover salvaged from existing sources and tweaked and added to or taken from in some way.
It should go without saying this is superior to any transformation spell they got, and less dangerous. It almost certainly has no ill effects if it’s like the creative source it came from, dizziness that one must endure the first time you do it, but no more. We have seen how everything else has led to countless complications of every sort and is not worth it. Thomas and the other Tonya would be eternally grateful.
2. I wonder what goes into that other project. Exactly how are they planning to confront the main issue, the overarching threat to all life? If they fail, Earth is nothing but a giant desert, and likely Eques the same if any contact remains. And just how did they turn the whole thing around?

In regards to how skilled a mage is Sunset Blessing:
Everything that comes through her various research labs passes before her eyes and she has amassed quite a large amount of magical knowledge as a result. She hasn't learned the odds and ends of everything that's currently been researched but she has very sound understanding of magical theory and a larger selection of spells at her disposal than most other mages, as well as the ability to combine spells in very complex ways. She doesn't have much for actual spell power level though.
So she is a very skilled mage by Equestrian standards and a top tier mage by transformed pony standards--at least in terms of skill, raw power she is in the bottom quarter of the population.
The way you're developing Jessie's character arc is pretty enjoyable. It's very interesting to see the way that she works through things, as well as what she does and doesn't understand.
Sunset's going to have a very bad day, when she figures out that she did burn her bridges with Wild. Also going to be a major legal and ethical headache; she'd used the newer pony version because of the hurt that the old one caused, and that evidently works as a permanent-transformation spell. There's also the medical side of things; the spell (in both directions) can cure otherwise-incurable diseases, permanently, even though doing so is illegal and that the spell was devised from a bioweapon. I'd imagine that MDs are already clamoring to have ETS released as a treatment for disease; doing this will only redouble those calls.
Diablos, ve a la cocina- Ve should be vayan; ve is singular for of *ir* in the imperative; the sentence reads. Vayan is technically they, but is sometimes used for you (plural). The verb venir, form vengan, would probably work better here. Vengan means "to come" so it would be "go to the kitchen" vs "come to the kitchen."

the story is really coming together and showing just how much life is changing for everyone, some good some bade.
I have the feeling that everything will crash down on Sunset, way before she resigns. I also have some guesses what will happen next to certain characters, but maybe I'm wrong with those. But I do expect more bad things to happen in this part of the Pandemic storyline. I mean it's called "Monsters we make" after all which kinda indicates a story with some darker Chapter's
This may seem like a stupid question to ask, by why isn't this and other connected stories just labeled "Conversion Bureau"? Ponies are inflicting widespread involuntary transformations with a mental component that appears to force them to love it and not want to be human. So.... why? I'm not trolling, I seriously don't get it.

CB is another defined universe. And it is only one pony who did wide spread use of this tactic, Equestria is innocent in this action. Up until Sunset Blessing started this again there hadn't been any transformations in years.

Original Pandemic author here. The Pandemic series is similar to CB only in the original premise of a being attempting a forced transformation of humanity. All resemblance to the CB universe stops there. In most CB stories, the driving force behind the transformation is Equestria's presence on Earth causing some sort of expanding wall of magic that will kill humans if they don't transform. In most cases, Celestia is fully supportive of the mass transformation (and in some, even purposely brought Equestria onto Earth for that specific purpose). This is the polar opposite of the Pandemic universe, where Celestia, Twilight, etc, are actively working to stop it (in the original story) or mitigate the damage that was caused (subsequence stories). The original transformation magic that did the original transformations is actually banned on Earth. While factions do exist that want to see the continued transformation of humanity, they represent only a small minority of humanity.

*nods* Alright then, I'll give it a look through. Is there a recommended reading order?
Some time ago when I saw the original I thought "Oh, tf fic where the bad guy wins and everyone just lets it happen," and skipped onwards to the next story listed. Later when I saw there were several others based on it I looked closer and though it was yet more TCB bandwagon fics where they just say "Do not look at the pony behind the curtain!," as a method of handwaving flimsy justifications. But since this seems like its playing things straight I'll have to give it a read.

Recommended reading order based on timeline:
Pandemic (original by ASGeek, mandatory)
What You are Meant to Be (by Halira, optional)
Hope (this one may never be finished, so reading what is there is optional)
Picking Up the Pieces (by Halira, highly recommended to understand certain details in regards to Dreamwardens, but technically optional. I'm going to eventually put stars next the Dreamwarden chapters for quicker skimming as those are the primary importance for overall universe)
Big Apple (by Lawra, optional)
Dreamers, Departures, Desert Getaway (by Cosmic Eclipse, all optional)
Aftermath (by ASGeek2012, mandatory)
Pony in the Mirror (by Halira, mandatory)
Monsters We Make (by Halira, mandatory)
The universe is moving towards a specific endgame so events of each story should all be considered a slow movement towards that despite whatever in story plots there are.

No problem. I get it that CB has left a lot of readers gun-shy about this sort of topic.
And Halira has already responded with a reading order that I think looks good.

There is also pretty balanced view on the situation, and even the main antagonist makes much more sense than your typical Hollywood villain. In the main story, as well as in Halira's sidestories, you can expect that all characters do and say as they are, not as they should by plot demands. They are deep, they are not scripted entirely on some sort of childhood trauma, and they are entirely believable despite enormous cast.
There is no 'ponies/humans wrong/right' by default. It depends. Even 'stay pony' decision depends on exact situation, not on author beliefs.
Minute of fangirling off :)
