Six years have passed since a pandemic transformed a quarter of the population of the United States into ponies. Magic has advanced far in that time, but its formerly human users will soon find that they have advanced too quickly and recklessly.

I am going to call it, the new version is permanent. That would be perfect and definitely drop Sunset’s ego down tons of pegs.
So how does it work if a night pony and an earth pony run into each other while dreamwalking? Are they in the sky or in the hall?
Magic vampires. You've turned your mother into a magic vampire.

They'd each perceive themselves in different places and doing different things. Perception between individuals is not constant and both these things are just constructs of their minds.
Clearly nothing could go wrong by letting them continually dump more magic into a spell that's supposed to have a time limit. Sunset Blessing, apparently super smart magic pony.
At least one of the powerful ponies in the room is smart enough to not let the new crystal ponies treat her like a buffet.
Well I don't see how anything could possibly go wrong.
I hadn’t mentioned this in a while, and I imagine most don’t think about it. But predominately most have fitting names. And there are those who’s names don’t seem to suit them.
I honestly wonder just how many guys have effeminate sounding names. Mysterious male characters who oddly have names that most near universally would insist are female names. And when people question them about it, they insist that’s their real, legal name, not a nickname, stage name, or married. The very same one they were given at birth, and they will stubbornly refuse to change them for anything.
I just wonder how common individuals like this are. Great lengths were taken to verify it’s not common here, and is even less common in PAP. It sure would make it easy to throw ponies off of your track when trying to evade capture and exposure. Changing one’s name would be needless, as ponies might think you were lying or delusional. Imagine if one did take on another name...
I want to give that guy a good slapping. I do not want to stretch his neck out. That’s too much. Some should be hanged, but I can’t justify doing this to the insane.

Is this some roundabout way to defend a guy who was dissecting children alive?
Well, if people were worried that ponies would overwhelm human culture, they can lay those fears to rest- High School has made no changes to better reflect the needs, wants, desires or abilities of it's students. The American education system has neither taken new knowledge in order to improve itself, nor has it changed to reflect real-world needs, such as cooperation or creative thinking (which at least the Western pony schools tried to do, however ham-handedly).
I'd honestly expected Poly Glot's statement to be misdirection on some level- either nothing happened, or it was something completely innocuous, and for his magical education to have come from exposure to dark magic. If the mystery of Poly Glot is going to be a major subplot, then I look forward to seeing more of him- discussed in whispers, a shadow looming over Tonya's life- in the coming chapters. Makes me wonder if he has an accent, or if he can change it on command- that's the kind of thing, along with slang and turns of phrase- imagine a Californian saying "y'all"- that helps people identify where others are from.

No. Absolutely not. I don’t allow feelings to get in the way of pragmatism very often. It doesn’t do to let murderers roam about freely, but we must be civil about it. If being locked away in a cell for the rest of one’s life is doable, by all means knock yourself out. Sometimes execution is justified, but let’s not kid ourselves here. It is indeed a form of retribution, vengeance. I’m not one to condone brutal torture, but if the crime is heinous enough I’ll surely go for the death penalty, like what he had. But I would not sink to his level. There are those who would try to avoid breaking the neck so the condemned will have to strangle, and there are those who would much rather break the neck and be done with it. Guess which crowd I fall into.
Insanity and evil are two separate things, and this one seems to strongly imply madness. Like Shimmer wasn’t evil, just mad, but her madness endangered numerous lives and caused damages that are difficult to put exact estimates on. Bringing magic into a world that didn’t have it but might develop it on its own gave countless people bad headaches. She had caused many people a lot of aggravation that would have been over something more minor or not at all had she not subjected them to magic, knowingly or not. A prison cell, or excommunication would have been far more appropriate to her than death.
This one needs to be executed possibly, but let us not make a show out of it. Drain away all magic from his body and be done with it. If he must hang, does it really make sense to make him throttle? There’s also leaving him in solitary confinement for the rest of his life, in a padded room and a straight jacket. And fracture his thing. But let’s be real here: The best people to judge him and decide his fate would be ponies that never met the defendant nor the victims, nor had any connection whatever, but are of the right demographic to make the most accurate call. Ditsy, Dinky, and Time Turner Whooves sound like the right choice, or others like them. They would be the best ones to decide what to do with this mad pony.

I assume that you're referring to Poly Glot? He was already tried legally, but got off on an insanity defence; Sunset Blessing is essentially acting as his caretaker, keeping him as her ward and out of the prison system, something that I believe is acceptable for someone too dangerous to let out in public. The insanity defense is only justified in the United States if the person using the defense was unable to tell the difference between right and wrong at the time of the crime; in this case, the transformation spell did cause some people to become completely insane, which was believed to have happened in this case. Tonya is trying to show that he was both perfectly functional in society and performing atrocities before becoming a pony, which would show that he was not insane, and still is a threat to society, so therefore the insanity defense did not apply to him. Double jeopardy rules might come up, but if she can come up with prior crimes for which he has not yet been charged, then that will not be an issue. Tonya has discussed what she wants to happen to him, were he found guilty, but does not have the authority to do anything related to punishments.
The mind magic makes them feel good as ponies and absorbing magic makes it last longer. They are addicts
Had a thought while reading this chapter, have there been any checks done on the equestrian side if there are anything like the Devourers in their universe?

The princesses are unfamiliar with anything of the sort. The closest thing they know of is Tirek, but he is miniscular compared to what the Devourers represent
