Six years have passed since a pandemic transformed a quarter of the population of the United States into ponies. Magic has advanced far in that time, but its formerly human users will soon find that they have advanced too quickly and recklessly.

So much devastation. I don’t think that Sunset Blessing is going to be getting away with any of this. Still I wonder who is going to die Jean or Jessie?
No need to thank me, I was happy to provide some content instead of convincing you to write more than you originally intended.
It would actually be better politcally for jean to be the one to die because if she survives it would be because anther equestrian performed a permanent ponification.
Also wild growth if she gets better should be much more devestated than from a standard misscarrage because unlike a normal one she took deliberate actions that she on some level new would kill it.
Also I like how the narrator calls out the wardens on how they act all knowing when they actually are just as ignorant as eveyonelse but have access to a magic wikipedia.
as they had both been close to a private airfield
That made her wary of laying guilt on Sunset Blessing, contrary to her first instinct.
So it's a toss-up between Jessie, Jean and Wild Growth. To be honest, I would have to say Jean. Yes, It would bad for the family but Jessie has much to offer and Wild is an Icon to many.
Lots of strong emotion in this chapter, well done!
Should she survive, I will not mention friendly fire again on another Pandemic tale.

She isn't the only one who has done huge mistakes, but i don't think you could do anything to make her life worse than it already is. She lost the love of her life and hit rock bottom, i wouldn't be surprised if she became depressed enough to be suicidal.
I had to look up what hematidrosis was. It is sweating blood. The magical-medical jibber-jabber about inoperable acute rupter of the external thaumatic flows makes me think she really did burn herself out.
The fact that Wild Growth was confirmed to be sweating blood made me think about religious symbolism, specifically Wild Growth as a Christlike figure. I wouldn't normally bring it up, but Christian religion does play a background role in all of Halira's stories. I re-read some things and want to point out some other attributes to her. She is mentioned as having tripped and fallen 3 separate times, that lines up with how many times Christ fell on his walk to the place he was crucified. She was protecting people from fires that raged from underground, kind of like she was protecting the people of RIverview from Hell. She grew massive apple trees to act as a shield of life, and the tree of life in the Bible is often depicted as an apple tree. Her abundant crops that she grows could be called a Garden of Eden. When she fell down off the building she could have been said to have fallen into hell, as Christ was said to have done when he died on the cross--only to return three days later, having broken down the gates of hell.
There seems like there is a lot of religious symbolism around her. Not all in your face, but definitely easy to find. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Add Bill to the list of potential deaths, though he seems a minor character. There's also the chance someone might try to assassinate Sunset after everything. Adding Tattered Wing and Melissa to the list of potential deaths too, since they were out in that.

What the hell man. I remember when I was in school and had to read Old Man and the Sea. My teacher said similar things about that book and I'm still like "are we reading the same book?"

I can see where she would be extremely depressed, but I hope she doesn't commit suicide. After everythibg it took for her to finally face up to everything she's done wrong it would be a shame if she didn't get a chance to do right. She's done two radical changes in philosophy before, I want a chance to see what the ex-Shimmerist Sunset Blessing is like. Number Crunch evolved into a good and sturdy mentor and friend to Wild Growth; I'd like to see Sunset in a similar situation with someone. For all her faults she has a lot to offer.
You know who must be taking this hard? Sarah. Tonya told her that Jenny had potentially valuable information. Wouldn't be surprised if Sarah got on the phone with Jenny soon after and tried to find out if any of Jenny's story could have prevented this. That puts Sarah in the position of having to explain how she even knew Jenny was telling the story, which could raise uncomfortable questions, but Sarah has to be carrying a load of guilt if she's seeing these news reports. With how big a disaster this is it has to be broadcast everywhere.
Was initially confused about what Jenny did to help this not be so bad, but realized that if she hadn't gotten in touch with Twilight then Twilight might not have come. If Twilight hadn't come then Wild Growth wouldn't have had time to stop the explosion before it was too late, and everyone in Riverview might have died. Jenny telling Twilight saved thousands of people from dying -- including Sunset Blessing, Wild Growth, Jessie and the other foals, Jean, Rosetta, Crystal, basically every pony who was at home. If any of these characters ends up being important for fighting the Devourers then it was critical that Twilight bought that time.

Mr. Carp? Is that you?
9922024
I don't know who Mr. Carp is. I just noticed it because I had a preacher a few weeks ago go through this whole discussion about how Jesus sweated blood on the way to the cross and how that was a legitimate medical condition for someone under extreme stress. I saw that diagnosis and then things just started falling into place that Wild Growth can be depicted as a savior figure and all the religious symbolism that was around what happened. There is just so much of it, it feels like it has to be done on purpose.
9922056
Oh, he's nobody important. Just an English teacher I had in high school who could find the damnedest of symbolism in literally anything. Man was an absolute blast to be around, though, so it's definitely a compliment to compared to him
9921562
Holy. I never would of noticed that. I am not really religious so it never crossed my mind on the similarity.

Calling her "Christlike" seems a stretch. She's a good person overall, don't get me wrong. She is generous and cares about everyone she comes in contact with. She also has a history of heavy drinking, and having an excessive amount of sex. Those things don't line up with what I would consider Christlike.
9924501
Not claiming she is perfect. She is very impulsive, which is a good thing in a bad thing. It's a good thing because she doesn't hesitate to take action. When everyone else is standing around trying to figure out what to do she is out doing things. already. That is also why it is bad, because she probably doesn't always think things through, or wait to get all the information she needs (just like when she went racing off to the school without getting the full story from Robby. She also is more inclined to do things for pleasure (she's about action so she wants easy gratification), which got her labeled as a party animal.
I don't think these things detract from the fact she is selfless and generous, and wants to make everything better for others. I said she is "Christlike" that doesn't mean she is perfect, because she isn't perfect, it means she is someone who best exemplifies what is good and is willing to sacrifice their-self for the good of others.
holy crap things sure got flushed down the crapper for everypony.
wow a grate chapter this had to be super hard to right team. grate work every one.
