Good story, too good to leave this in it.

“permission to (reside) over the funeral arrangements.” I think you meant (preside). Don't you just love Murphy and his sidekick Spell Check?

I have to ask: Is English your first language? The story is a decent enough concept, but there's so many small errors in spelling, grammar, tenses, and using one word when I'm fairly sure you mean another, and they all added up to make this incredibly difficult to read in places.

It's a brave attempt, but I'd very strongly recommend getting a proof reader for any further writing. Not to say that you should stop or give up, but as it stands this story is a very long way from a thumbs-up.
