It IS good to see our protagonist actually communicating with Max, learning how to defend himself, all good character development...but dude? You have seen magic that defies all rationality. You were TELEPORTED via a magic spell of some kind to the planet that is presumably light years, maybe entire dimensions, away from Earth. Why do you find it so hard to believe that an almost godlike magic user could raise the sun when you've seen what you've seen and now know what you know?
I was really hoping for more of a training that was styled after the anime "Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple". It would have been much more...entertaining
3934561 I think I know. When you're taught something, and made to believe that it is an absolute fact by both evidence of it being true and it being drilled into your head for many years, when something new about it that tries to change your view of it entirely you will try and reject it. To you, the world works this way, and this way only. So, when you learn that the sun is a giant burning gas hell millions of miles away with still enough gravitation force to keep an entire planet in alignment for many years to come, you're probably going to argue with someone who claims it's all just "magic". I know I would.
3934637 Exactly. He knows that there are certain laws that must be obeyed by everything. So far, only the claim that the sun is being whirled around the planet goes against the known laws of the universe.
The 'magic' he sees can be explained as another, exotic, and undiscovered form of energy similar to dark energy. The teleportation can be a variation of the Einstein-Rosen bridge. He's yet to see weather manipulation (he's spent almost the entirety of his time in the library or in Dr. Song's house. and besides, people have a tendency not to look up)
Name one thing that Richard has seen that you think cannot be explained by the current laws of physics. I'll be able to hammer it into a probable explanation. 3934577 3934498 You guys are cruel... very, very cruel.
True, but that's assuming he's in the same universe. For all he knows, physics could work completely differently in this setting. And as the saying goes, "when in Rome"...
The European explorers had to when they discovered America. Doctors of the renaissance had to disregard centuries of what they assumed was truth about the human body because the doctor Galen and his theories ended up being proven wrong. What I'm saying is that circumstances will often force you to radically reevaluate things.
But what I'm really surprised is why he doesn't find their setting, y'know, familiar. Isn't seeing these guys kind of like seeing Santa Claus or Spongebob? Wouldn't he be more open to the idea of this being an alternate universe because he's seen cartoons just like this place?
3934717 so maybe the sun is far smaller than normal but far closer to earth. Or Celestia is able to move the planet. You are right if she attempted to move the sun the size of ours then it would literally crush this planet as well as cause unfathomable damage to the rest of there solor system
So, when is he going to get in trouble for having a bow no pony can use, and when is he going to use said bow to defend somepony from harm? Or will they both happen at the same time? ... I think I've read too many of these fics. BLASPHAMY! There is no such thing as too many good fanfics! Thanks Pinkie, I feel much better now. Keep up the good work. Deus tecum.
39348723934883 But he hasn't. There is no MLP, or at least, he's never heard of MLP in his home universe, just like Max. He also has made subconscious assumption that this is still the same universe, mainly due to all the similarities in the way objects behave.
As for the sun being smaller, there is empirical evidence that a sun must be a certain size, with a rocky Earth-like planet in the 'goldilocks' zone in order to be able to support life. If the sun is too small, there is not enough of the right kind of energy to sustain life as we know it. If it's too big, there is far too much radiation for organic life to even step foot into the star system.
As for moving the planet, that would also take an insane amount of energy, it would disrupt the Electro-Magnetic field (thus opening the planet up to extreme levels of solar radiation) and it would be a pointless gesture. At most, she might need to 'respin' the planet every now and again, but that would be millions of years apart.
Thus Richard will not accept Celestia's abilities. At least until he has irrefutable proof.
As for having to defend himself, that's not exactly what I had planned for the bow... There are plenty of deer in the Everfree, after all. Besides, name one pony that would notice a missing deer, eh?
3935324 3934883 Or maybe that this is a completely different universe from ours, and has its own set of rules it follows. If it is a different universe, it doesn't need to follow our universes's rules.
3934711 when in rome eh? So does that mean max and Richard should stab Celestia and Luna in the back and become the new rulers? lol. Also heres hoping that he makes a badass crossbow. Whats that ponies? 30 lb bow? oh thats funny. See this little thing on the back of my crossbow? Its called a windlass, it helps load my sick ass 2500 lb siege machine. EAT IT! http://duosion.com/post/37512420947/season-1-episode-10b-freak-city
3935572 Ah, but Richard does not know it's a different universe. Twilight and Max both told him he's from a different world. Thus, he still assumes that the laws of physics apply. And so he's set himself up for a major breakdown when [SPOILERS].
3935532 Curses, my flash player crashed before I could see this.
Actually, Max is the only one that suffered that much, and if you read the original story, Max actually does not accept Twilight right away. Richard is mostly laid back, and he can take quite a pounding both emotionally and physically.
3935955 I think you mean a ballistae. Which the ponies undoubtedly have.
+Look, all I say is it impossible to move object many million times larger than planet around planet without extreme gravitational and electromagnetic disturbance ripping planet apart, plus energy required is more than in your star system.+ “And all I'm saying is that the Princesses magic is more than sufficient to both move the sun and deal with any of these 'so called' gravometric waves that you say would occur from moving the sun. Not that it occurs at all.” Twilight retorted, her angered state more than enough to ignore the horrible grammar that I'm sure I had. +Look,+ I pointed to a visual representation of the Sol system. +The size of sun in my solar system is one hundred and nine diameters of Earth. It is three hundred thousand times mass Earth. Your sun has be about same size compared in order to support life. Object that large generates gigantic amount of gravity force, which what keeps planet in orbit. We far enough out that our forward momentum is perpe- per- continued by sun gravity, which also keep us near sun. This stabilizes orbit around sun. Planet then turn on axis while orbit sun, making illusion sun rise. No Princess make rise.+ “URRGGHHH” Twilight said, throwing her hooves into the air. “There's no way that there is enough force behind the 'gravity' of the sun to do that. Everypony knows that gravity is just a by-product of the magical field that is apart of Equestria. Not the 'mass' involved.” I facepalmed. +Gravity is create because Higgs Bosons want pull matter together. More matter, more bosons, more gravity. Not 'Magic field.” Just because 'Princess claim this, not make true.+ “You're impossible!” Twilight said, dragging a hoof down her face.
TWILIGHT, I WILL SMASH YOUR FACE IN THE SUN IS 99% OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM AND CELESTIA IS A TYRANT AND ARGGH STUPIDITY MY BRAIN HURTS I DONT CARE IF IF DIMENSIONAL SHIFT REASONS STUPIDITY HURTS AND ALL MY GRAMMERS ARE FAILING AND ARGH GRAVITY AND ARGH I WILL SHARPEN YOUR RIB AND USE IT AS A NEEDLE TO MAKE A SCARF OUT OF YOUR INTESTINES YOU PUNY 30 POUND THING
3936590 na. a windlass crossbow was a handheld "siege" class crossbow. It was used mainly at long range due to the poundage being so high that it could remain at lethal velocities over longer distances. While its draw length was a mere 6-12 inches as opposed to about 2 feet of some English longbows. This shorter draw length necessitated the higher draw weight, especially to punch through the plate armor that came into service the same century(the 14th). think this http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dRy3FcMZ4a8/T5NBFMhhXTI/AAAAAAAAAA0/aYM3vwE6hzs/s1600/crossbow-3.jpg even a broad-head bolt had more than enough power to plow its way through a human torso and even make a fresh breast plate into a dented mess(though an armor piercing bolt would have no problem making a clean hole through). on a final note, the crossbow was easier to learn and master than a longbow even though it was less able to put rounds down range in a timely manner. The english longbow was something you learned as you grew up so that the constant trauma (as wolffs law proved) would harden bone and restructure the shoulder, arm and forearm muscles to more easily deal with the repeated use of the bow. The crossbow however, was a weapon with ease of use and maintenance in mind. It was simple enough to explain its use and the plethora of loading mechanisms made cocking even a one ton demon an easy affair. I like crossbows P.S. ballistae could have up to(and probably used more than) 5000 lbs of power because they had to throw bigger loads. Though this was slightly mitigated by the massive draw length.
Max did fight in the pit yes but Richard was almost raped by blueblood,
I just don't understand how these two men are happy to live in a world where there race is hunted, enslaved, raped and even eaten and take it with a laugh?
I mean both of them pretty much took it on the chin with what happen and forget about it every happened
3939665 On a fundamental level, the ponies are just like humans, some bad, some good. Both Max and Richard had the unpleasant experience to meet some of the bad ones, yes, but subconsciously they know that there are also good ponies, and, once exposed to them, focus on that.
It is in human nature to seek out social interactions, and when there are no social humans around, ponies are the next best thing.
3935572 Then give us a thought out and theorised reason for it. I don't like the fuck you its a ,A different universe or B its magic. Show us how it works. It doest matter if it is a different universe.
3940127 It would be impossible to explain using our own universe's rules. That's why I suggested that it was a different universe. Magic could be a property of matter, or heavier objects can have less gravity than lighter objects. There are already several violations of the laws of physics in this story, thus coming up with the conclusion that this story in a different universe with its own set of rules and laws. It kinda does matter if it is in a different universe. If it wasn't, then you would have to give the " it's magic" excuse, because there would be no way to come up with logical explanations on half the stuff in the world of MLP. How would you come up with a explanation on the stuff in this story, while making sure that it doesn't violate any natural laws. You can't, so the next logical step is that this is in a different universe with different rules.
3940248 3940127 Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, is the answer.
Or something like that.
Look, we can argue all day over this. Yes, it's a different universe, no Richard does not know this, yes Richard will continue to argue and hammer things into our currently accepted laws of nature until he is given irrefutable proof that the laws do not apply. Which of course leads up to a huge .
3939925 True, but you base that on the concept of humans on humans.
Every human knows some are shit and some are good but this is a entirely different race to humans who pretty much see them as shit.
not only that but you seem to miss out that the mistreatment of humans goes to a government level so it isn't a case of "Some bad and good" it's a nation(s) who enforces this cruel treatment of humans although it does have laws in-place to stop human fighting and so on doesn't make it any better.
As we well know government officials humans or ponies fall pray to corruption (in blueblood place)
Unless those two are massive cunts who care only about there own treatment then fair enough but I'm sure most people would be unhappy about it.
it impossible to move object many million times larger than planet around planet without extreme gravitational and electromagnetic disturbance ripping planet apart
Actually the multiverse theory supports universes whose physical laws differ from ours. In fact some can be so different matter from our universe simply ceases to exist upon entering it and is atomised because the physical bonds holding the atoms together no longer exist.
And like previously mentioned it would be pretty damn difficult to explain completely different laws of physics since there'd be no base to compare it to.
3940481 If an intelligent dog (i.e. a sentient one) were to be transported into your household, would you see yourself as a horrible person because you, perhaps, own(ed) a dog? Do you think the intelidog would?

Having recently turned off the mature filter to find anything else to read and add to my collection of favorites, I'm most definitely on the hunt for more. I got a few that might get your attention. Some (actually, most) of these never updated since forever ago, but they could kill time.
Foal Necromancer: Exactly what it says. Human incarnated necromancer turned into a foal. A Ghost Story: A different take in HiE, where as the human turns into a ghost who can't seem to talk or touch the ponies, let alone seen! My Two Most Faithful Students: Twilight goes accidentally back in time and meets past Luna and Celestia. Shipping and Handling: Derpy gets into the life of shipping. Pun was intended. Canis Ezo Kage: A descriptive story about a human turned into a rare wolf in Equestria.
