Tolkien: On Dragons and Dinosaurs · 7:27pm Dec 18th, 2022

I went to a very good lecture this week at the Oxford Museum of Natural History, by JRR Tolkien. Not quite in flesh—the museum does not have access to the writer himself (he died in 1973) any more than they have any live dinosaurs, but they were able to reproduce his spirit in about the most convincing way possible without resorting to the sort of necromancy that would not be approved by the university ethics committee.

As is obvious from how much I write her, Petunia Paleo is one of my favorite characters. So I knew that I'd have to write a story for her for PVCF. I was a dinosaur geek as a child, and she reminds me a lot of myself in that way. Of note, the font for the story's cover image is supposed to be the Jurassic Park font.

FanFiction: Jurassic Park - Herbivore Havoc, part 1 · 3:05am Apr 25th, 2018

AU Parody of the first two movies' most memorable scenes. Instead of heavily stocking his park with carnivores and a few docile herbivores, Hammond decides to start off less grandiose and instead opts to mostly stock his park with herbivorous and omnivorous dinosaurs. After all, things that aren't carnivores are friendly and surely won't cause any problems, right? If we swap out such nasties as the Tyrannosaurus and "Raptor", nothing could go wrong, right?...

Paleo Profile: Everybody Walk the Archosaur! - Poposaurus · 11:07pm May 4th, 2018

The Late Triassic, over 225 million years into the past. The Great Dying that prematurely ended the reign of the mammal ancestors and nearly destroyed all multicellular life on the planet was dim memory upon the landscape which it ravaged 25 million years earlier. The air was thick despite the lower oxygen levels than the present, still dense with humid moisture spurred by the hotter morning sun.

My father's a fan of classic radio. His favorite of which is the old CBS radio drama Suspense, but he has a couple of other shows that he's listened to over the years. I remember quite a few long car trips from when I was a kid that involved him putting on tapes of Suspense, or some other old-time radio series.

Still working on the next chapter as I work through proofing works for friends and graduate school work (helping teach classes and working in the lab), but doesn't mean I can't vent in one of the best ways I know how. Writing a fight scene. And who doesn't love a good fight?

...And I am speechless...

Where to even begin. All I can say that, those people who said that this will be the closest the franchise will get to being a full-blown horror film, were pretty right on the money, with all those claustrophobic sequences with the dinosaurs.

A few scenes were genuinely heart-breaking, terrifying, & comedic, I won't tell you what those scenes are, and I'll avoid telling any spoilers...

...save for this...

New Jurassic Park Game?! · 2:35am Dec 8th, 2023

Well now. This is a bit of news that I never would have expected. Not in 65 million years, that's for sure.

But it's a pleasant surprise for now, all the same. I never would have expected a new game based around the Jurassic Park era/brand - not Jurassic World, Jurassic Park - and a survival horror / adventure game at that as well? :pinkiegasp:

Wow. :yay:

Please, please, PLEASE be good...
