The Annual Prime Day Disappointment Comments Section (Covid October Edition) · 2:24pm Oct 13th, 2020

I've always said that it isn't Prime Day until Amazon puts The Land Before Time: Complete Movie Collection and the Dark Shadows Complete Series Set up on the Lightning Deal calendar, at negligible discounts, for an audience which, if remotely interested, purchased those things already.

I regret to say that it is now Prime Day.

No, I'm not linking them. As said, if you were interested, you own them. There may be no exceptions.

Ten dollars in one-time bonus credit and nothin' on...

I'm far enough behind on the video collection scene that I finally picked up the Batman Beyond 3-season package (with commentary) at Wal-Mart yesterday, while driving back from work that I went to even though it wasn't a work day. One of those "Darnit, if I'm getting old, at least I can watch TV" moments. Midlife crisis here I come.

James Horner wrote the music for Land Before Time.

A wonderful composer.

Ironically, that's one of the things on sale today. It's not much of a sale -- the barebones DVD edition, $23.33 with coupon -- and it's also a case where if you wanted it, you probably paid for it already.

For my part, it's a hole in my DCAU shelf. And it is going to remain a permanent gap, because to me, Batman Beyond is to the DCAU what so many people say my writing is to MLP. All depressing endings, all the time. A miserable world populated by miserable people who meet miserable ends while making each other miserable. Do not inject in bulk.

I've been looking over the Lightning Deals on books: nothing appeals there. I may peek at comforters later: I really need a fresh winter-weight. But so far, my survey balance remains untouched.

The good news is that with the exception of that limited-time $10, it'll all roll over. And then I can be disappointed when we get the exact same offerings on Black Friday.

I won't argue that he's one of the greats. I feel soundtracks are the last refuge of pure instrumentals, and the music of Glory can get stuck in your head forever. And the first Land Before Time is a fairly decent movie, in that you can watch it and not want to die.

I realize that's a very narrow qualifier, but it's something you can't say for most of the sequels.

I did not like it ad the time when Justice League Unlimited almost ended with an episode of Batman Beyond for its series finale, but I did enjoy that episode as an ending for Batman Beyond. It probably would have been a lot worse if had been written as an ending for Batman Beyond when the series had been airing.

Funnily enough, I actually bought something on Amazon today, which I very rarely do (I've got a gift card balance, which has been there for years, I think...), unrelated to it being Prime Day (I'm not in Prime, or whatever the terminology is, and don't plan to be, because, among other things, see above). Not exactly something I'd expect to see on a Prime Day sale (or however it works) anyway, though: Pennsy Car Plans, used, published 1969. Amazon informs me that it is, apparently, "#153,761 in Books".

Well, I did find something on the Upcoming list which was sort of MLP-related. A movie called Playing With Fire, in which one of the child characters loves the show and has a themed party.

It also happens to be a bad movie.

A really, really bad movie.

We're talking baaaaaad.

I work in an Amazon fulfillment center. I dread events such as Prime Day...

If it helps, I am personally on track to be giving you no additional work whatsoever.

Yeah, but... that’s just regular Batman.

...Ah. I apologize for not thinking of that before happening to place my order today. Though if it helps, this was a single copy of a used book from a list of single copies from different private sellers, which I'm hoping means it isn't as much, if any, of a load on you and your fellow workers.
(Amazon's business practices are a significant part of why I don't buy much from them...)

Good luck.

I work for UPS and all those TV’s will be sent though my department. Still bought one because I need a better TV and I thought the deal was good.

BTAS had its share of upbeat endings. Joker's Favor is one of the best 'the little guy wins' stories in Gotham's multiversal history. Batman Beyond is just... 'Here's someone with morals who could be a hero. Let's see how many of the twenty-two minutes it takes before they die.'

I think this listing says it all.

Memories...
can't get rid of the memories...

Okay, I got something. My mouse was moving a bit oddly: the rear glide pad is starting to peel away from the base. So... replacement mouse. The current one should last until it arrives.

Mission accomplished?

I actually own none of the Land Before Time movies and I'm interested. Heck, I don't know if I've seen any of them at all. I'm a weird outlier.

... I hate that you're right.

I disagree with this bit, though! Your writing makes me smile on days I'm down. I have 32 of your fics downloaded to my phone and "Half!" is one of my most-reread fics.

(sorry for replying to two of your comments) I rather like Cats... the musical... the original one. It works better as a niche absurdist theater production than it does as a movie. The suspension of disbelief is different for a musical than a film, not to mention the CGI... they should've kept the frankly incredible makeup and wigs instead of going with the weirdly bald CGI designs. and there wasn't enough dancing and it didn't need a plot dammit

My only true Prime Day win was an Instant Pot two, three years ago.

This year? Nothin'.

The best thing I've seen so far is what may be a universal offer: buy $40 or more in Amazon gift cards (or reload your own balance -- and you can always mail a card to yourself) and get a $10 credit towards a future purchase. Bonus money is always welcome.

But in terms of items... I wasn't exactly kidding in the main blog post. Just about 90% of what I'm seeing for sale in my favored categories was also on sale during the previous Prime Day. And Black Friday. And Cyber Monday. There's a few new pieces in there, along with lure items which sell out almost instantly -- but for the most part, it's an ongoing inventory dump.

This is the sort of day which has me wanting to try Instant Pot. When does the supposed mellowness kick in?

5377325

Depending on what you like to cook, an Instant Pot is either a life-changing epiphany or a total waste of money and counter space.

I like to do soups, beans, stews, etc., so it's "eiphany." (Doubles as a crockpot, so you can throw the crockpot into storage, and counter space is a net zero.)

I actually like Batman Beyond. It was probably the closest thing we'll ever get to a good official Batman/Bubble Gum Crisis Elseworlds series/comic, and it was better than a lot of the shows that happened after it with "Batman" in the title. And, Return of the Joker even fits in my head-cannon of how the Joker keeps coming back and back and back and back, over and over again.

It wasn't for everyone, and they should have gotten Terry somebody to back him up in the field by the end of Season Two at least. Had three ideas for how to pull that off, maybe four. And, a good Catwoman resolution/passing of the torch episode as well.

5376971
I like Batman Beyond. The contrast between Bruce's Bats, who's built like a tank, and Terry's Bats, who's more like an acrobat, is interesting -- not to mention their approaches to crimefighting.

If you like the Nostalgia Critic, he does an excellent review/torpedoing of Playing With Fire. I knew from the first commercial I saw that I'd enjoy watching the film in my bathtub more.

I love James Horner. I have two of his soundtracks (Aliens and Sneakers), and he composed The Wrath of Khan and The Search for Spock, among many other fine OSTs.
