Okay, I admit it, I'm probably not your mom. But odds are I'm old enough to be. Now with Patreon account (under alarajrogers) and short stories on Amazon (under Alara Rogers).

    Dream log, epic Fluttercord edition

Had a dream during a nap that is perfectly suited to be a story; I'm not even sure I need to tweak it.

So in the dream, Fluttershy was dying of old age, and Discord couldn't fix it. (She also had insulin-resistant diabetes, but that's kind of less important.) Discord was very upset by this, and decided to take drastic steps to prevent it.

Dammit, just discovered a friend here's been dead for two years...

Today I learned that Jordan died in April 2021, and I had no idea. I was re-reading some of my older fanfics, saw his comments, thought, "Huh, I wonder how Jordan's doing", and the answer is, he's not. Dammit.

    FUCKING DONE FINALLY

"The God of Breaking Rules In The Land of the Dead" is one of my oldest stories on this site. It's not my oldest incomplete -- "The King Who Would Be Man" and "Stumble In My Footsteps" are both older, all part of my initial rush in 2013-14 when I'd first gotten into the fandom and the writing came like a river. But it is old, posted almost 10 years ago (closer to 9 years, 11 months), and

A thing y'all should maybe know

I may or may not make the change here on Fimfiction, but on Archive of our Own and Fanfiction.net, I am changing my handle to Kaleidolon. Mainly as a branding differentiator between fanfic and profic. It's not like I can hide that Alara J Rogers writes fanfic, not after posting it to the Internet for literally 29 years, but when I get published in real life I want it to be slightly

And now it's time for everyone's favorite game, What Should Alara Write Next? · 6:18pm Dec 9th, 2019

I'm doing real well this December with the writing -- averaging around 1700 words per day, and trying to work my way back to the completely ridiculous and overly ambitious goal of 3,000 a day.

So. I got Not the Hero out of the way, I began the rewrite of "Callback" from the Writeoff into "Turn the Card of Death", I'm still working on my original novel and I am working on a not-MLP fanfic on commission that I was stuck on for more than a year. Now it's time to decide what I'm going to work on next for MLP!

(OK, honestly, the next piece is Being Chaos because that is also a commission piece, but after that...)

The options are:

The Goose Is On The Loose: Comedy based on Untitled Goose Game. Short chapters, next one should be done quick.
Earth: Expand the old story "Ice" and incorporate it into the new fic.
Not to Touch the Sun: Likely to be only three or four chapters total. Rewrite from the Writeoff.
The Sun Burns Out: Why did Celestia suddenly dump "ruling Equestria" on Twilight out of nowhere? Standalone.
Elements of Opposition: FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
The God Of Breaking Rules: Can you believe there is only one chapter left on this sucker?
No Escape From Yourself: The downward spiral continues.
Stumble In Your Footsteps: Twilight tries to function in a world of chaos. A discorded Choco Pie embraces chaos but Pinkeris and he have a confrontation.
Love, Friendship and Chaos: Twilight follows some clues.
The King Who Would Be Man: Searching for Discord across time and space, but conveniently, he left Luna an object that helps with the search.
Marks of our Destinies: Technically this is also a commission piece and I really should be working on it, but I cannot figure out what happens next!

Excluding Last Draconequus and Not the Hero because they've had updates this year and none of the other incompletes have. Excluding Turn the Card of Death because it was just released. Excluding Tale of Terrible Twilight and Awkward Conversations because I don't feel like it.

I'm leaning towards God of Breaking Rules. There's nothing quite like the satisfaction of marking something complete. (That or The Sun Burns Out, because that sounds quite interesting indeed.)

My vote is for Earth myself, I like the concept of the trio adventuring through unknown territory.

I've been eager to get to the Star Trek part of 'the King when would be a Man' for ages.

I gotta go with Love, Friendship, and Chaos. Out of all of these, it's the fic that's gone the longest without an update

I fully support finishing stories that are close to being done, but The Sun Burns Out sounds like something I'd want to see someone's take on.

Gotta go with Elements of Opposition. It may not be the one it makes the most sense to do next, but it is the one I most want to see more of right now.

Elements of Opposition or Earth

I vote for Earth. I like the concept.

Putting in a vote for Love, Friendship, and Chaos. It's lonely and neglected.

My vote goes for No Escape From Yourself. I loved that story and really want to see how it ends

I'd love to see more 'King who would be man'.

I’d vote for finishing stuff if anything is a quick-hit. There’s nothing like “The End.”

Goose would be fun too, though.

I'm torn between Love Friendship and Chaos, Earth and Elements of Opposition

Elements of Opposition or God of Breaking Rules is in my top two. There are a bunch that I really enjoy but EOO left us on such a cliff hanger and GOBR is so close to completion.

King who would be man or Stumble in your footsteps.

Being Chaos, please. Because I set aside popcorn, and it's getting fresh. I also said please.

So... please?

Sweet Schrodinger's Cat! It tastes like tulips!

My favorite game indeed.

The Goose Is On The Loose: Comedy based on Untitled Goose Game. Short chapters, next one should be done quick.
(Short and hilarious, but we got the last chapter recently)
Stumble In Your Footsteps: Twilight tries to function in a world of chaos. A discorded Choco Pie embraces chaos but Pinkeris and he have a confrontation.
(Really curious to see more of how Pinkeris blurs the lines of the story in a mysterious way)
Love, Friendship and Chaos: Twilight follows some clues.
(Seems like this story is almost wrapped up, as far as I can tell. Do you want to share how many more chapters you think it will need?)
The King Who Would Be Man: Searching for Discord across time and space, but conveniently, he left Luna an object that helps with the search.
(Classic Discord shenanigans)
Marks of our Destinies: Technically this is also a commission piece and I really should be working on it, but I cannot figure out what happens next! (The core idea of this story is that Discord is trying to find a way to get Fluttershy to ascend, but in a more subtle way. My first instinct would be to say Discord sets up a bunch of rigged fights with villains so the rest of the Mane 6 will ascend, but that's pretty much Season 9.
And also its the story where more members of the Q continuum visit Equestria. What if Discord has Fluttershy babysit Q Jr or something? Can't be that harder than Flurry Heart, and babysitting a Q seems like a more Fluttershy-esque way for one to connect with harmony than inventing a new type of magic or blasting a foe with a rainbow laser.)

I vote King Who Would Be Man/Marks of our Destinies (not sure if you will get an idea for the latter based on my suggestion, just consider it a vote for any Q-Discord) or Stumble in my Footsteps.

I've commented on God of Breaking Rules enough times. I would definitely lookforward to it completing!

I’d be happy with anything as you’re one of my favorite authors, but my top choices would be:
1. Elements of Opposition
2. The King Who Would Be Man
3. Earth
4. Love, Friendship and Chaos

Glad your doing well, I look forward to reading your work!

Elements of Opposition gets my vote.

1. Elements of Opposition
2. No Escape From Yourself
3. Stumble in Your Footsteps

Earth!
I want to see their reactions when Discord tells them there is no afterlife connected to Earth like he did in Ocean.

Elemnts of opposition because it's the story i'm most invested in.
No escape from yourself because it's one of the most interesting looks at Discord's inner characterization.

I vote for anything and everything with Kai Diwar.

Yes, I'm aware no one else in this thread will know what I'm talking about, and this is about mlp fanfiction instead of original fiction, but #5 was amazing and I wish with all my heart for it to be continued.

Definitely elements of opposition.

I'd go with The God of Breaking Rules because it's that close to completion and I'm curious as how that creation myth ends.

That, and it would mean one less thing for you to work on.

Hah! Well, it won't count for this particular poll, but I'll take it into account for my next round of "which of the original fics I've started should I flesh out and work more on?" :-)

The Kai and the Diwar (the actual Kai, a different race, appeared in #25, Tasty) were two of the most popular ficlets, outstripped only by the "humans are companion animals for dragons", so it is in fact very likely that I'll be working on those next year.

Thanks!

That makes me very happy :-D

I vote Elements of Opposition ^^

"The King who would be man"

Please. I beg of you
