The New Stories column is like a medical triage tent · 8:18pm Aug 2nd, 2018

You learn how to identify the ones who can't be saved, and then you leave them to die.

I feel that there is a good joke I could make about an inflamed appendix, but I'm afraid it's eluding me.

I haven't poked around with it, but I assume you can edit story descriptions and blurbs?
For me it's not the errors, it's seeing nobody fix them for weeks, months, years.

As in, the appendix you need to understand the story is so big that it can burst? I guess that's a worse condition that athlete's footnote.

That's what you get for walking barefoot on keyboards.

Yes: it's on the main Edit Story page, and an edit can be done at any time: there's no such thing as "This has been up for a year. You're locked out." You can modify short & long descriptions, along with changing characters and genre tags. Cover art can also be swapped.

Then yes. It's like "You cared enough to put 10k words onto electrons to start, you cared enough to put in 30k more over several months, but you don't care enough to make the outward label on the story look good?"
I know there's enough pedants on this site that SOMEONE has sent off a message making corrections.
This is regardless of content, mind. Just because I don't want to read 40k words of slow burn Discord/an oboe/the Element of Magic romance doesn't mean it's not worth getting out of the head and onto the page. It can at least be presentable, though.

I read these in Alan Alda's voice as Hawkeye Pierce.

At least they aren't trying for a ?

It was a beautiful day in Ponyville, if one were to ignore the brief showers of singing vampire frogs.

Live fast, die young, and leave a good looking corpse. Rainbow Dash had done the first two of those very well.

Ponyville had gained a reputation of a town being able to adapt to anything. Today was really pushing it.

There were some advantages to living nearly under the mountain city of Canterlot. Waste disposal was not one of them.

Is that from when Rainbow Dash was cursed to die over and over?

That’s already been done.

There is right now, at the moment of this comment's posting, a fic in the Featured box, whose title is misspelled. :facehoof:

This does not make me keen to read said fic.

A lot of them really are terrible

And it's an Anon-a-Miss fic, no less (iirc, the conversation was sparked by another of those which was featured yesterday).

I made the mistake of actually going to the main page for the first time in ages.
And it really comes across as more of a terminal ward to me.

- some sort of a "human OC shoots Tirek in the face" spin-off thing with an edgelord self-insert
- an EqG OC cyberbullying drama/mystery or whatever
- human self-insert romancing Twilight through letters, Mk. XVI Mod 2
- a fetish-overload anthro clopfic featuring Daybreaker, the Apple family, lactation, incest, public use and more of the usual
- HiE self-insert transformation "random comedy"
- sequel to a PiE redneck-to-pony transformation "drama" which is apparently a tribute to another masterpiece in that vein

I decided to stop there. I'm really not sure why'd you do this to yourself in the first place.

I've been reading fan-fics since the early 1970s. About the only thing that's changed about the bottom of the barrel is that authors use more profanity today.

"Dreaming Is a Private Thing" by Isaac Asimov, has what is probably my favorite quote about writing

"How do I do it? I don't know 'How do I do it'. How do you not do it? Tell me 'How do you not do it' so I can stop "

My issue is when the short description is only one sentence long. Tells yo-yo nothing about the story. Q
