In related news, I'm taking a train trip this coming weekend, behind Pere Marquette 1225.

Trains are awesome!

BTW!
I checked out that "museum" I told you about. Not much to it, but you're welcome to check it out.

The Equestrian rail system, allowing unsupervised children to travel to Manehattan since Season 4.

That is a sweet ride. :yay: Would you mind posting a few pics after you return?

So the Equestrian Railways' rolling stock is produced by Germanenian engineers? The head of Seamares (Equestrische Bahn's main supplier), Inter City, must really have wooed the Princesses. Good choice on their part, crystal-electric engines are the way forward. *nods*

Oh, man, you lucky pony! Be sure and take some pictures for me and maybe a video. I love dream locomotives!

Sky Trains?

End Of The Line, Kid.:trollestia:

Pity they never converted the locomotives internals to water tube firebox boiler with boiler as water tank economiser, with side grid condensers and turbocharger draw blast to avoid supercharger power fall off under load? Then again, one trick they could do with the US oil burners, is pressurise the whole firebox, letting them use thinner steam pipes due to the lower pressure differential, and given lower stress, less costly materials, for overall improvement in efficiency

Then again, in Switzerland they have steam electric trains which are essentially baseline power stations on wheels?

I'm super confused now. I thought that locomotive was a nonfuntioning display in Grand Haven. It's been there my whole life that I know of.

PM 1223 is the one in Grand Haven. It's 1225's only surviving sister, as far as I know.

Thank you for the clarification.

Cruisin down the main line
You're relaxed and feelin' good
Next thing that you know you're seein
Pegasi in the neighborhood!

Runnin' on a rainbow
Steamin' through the sky
Take a left at the anticyclone
Take the next right as you fly!

ON THE MAGIC HORSE TRAIN!
Navigate a nimbus!
Climb on THE MAGIC HORSE TRAIN!
Quell a storm cell, too
On our MAGIC HORSE TRAIN!
Raft a ribbon of stratus
On THE MAGIC HORSE TRAIN
Such a fine thing to do.

So strap your bones right to the seat
Come on in and don't be shy--
It'll make your day complete;
We'll be on time throughout the sky!

On THE MAGIC HORSE TRAIN!
Step inside--it's a friendly ride!
Come on, ride on the Magic Horse Train!

Did you know Ray Charles sang that?

Well, I have to come out your way sometime before Bronycon, so perhaps that would be a good time.

Hey, back in the day, you could do that in the US of A as well. You could even save on fare by mailing your children instead of buying them seats.

4707458
At least it's not the Wrath-of-Conrail.

There's only 1 thing that will tickle your fancy. Everything else is basically uniforms and documents. It's like a 2 minute walkthrough.

Like Silver Glow, I'm generally terrible at remembering to take pictures of things. But, if I do remember, I'll share them with y'all.

4707472
Gotta service the cloud cities somehow.

4707496
If you want a fine-tuned machine, it's pretty much got to be Germane.

Unless the Equestrians have the same view on preventative maintenance as the Americans do.

I love asdf. Somebody once compared a story of mine to an asdf movie, and that was quite flattering.

4707525

Reliable public transportation is the true magic of Equestria.

Ain't that the truth?

By the end of the steam era, some of the steam locomotives were quite efficient, with pre-heaters and dual chambered pistons (high pressure steam, and then re-use it a second time as low-pressure steam). But they couldn't compete with the reliability of diesel-electric, or the massive advantage that electric motors gave when starting out a train . . . large-drivered steam locomotives went fast, but were not very good at getting a train moving.

Then again, in Switzerland they have steam electric trains which are essentially baseline power stations on wheels?

So are diesel electrics. And in fact, back in the 90s (I think), Canadian Pacific deliberately derailed one of their locomotives and drove it down a street so that they could use it as a power plant after an ice storm.

I would ride the magical horse train in a heartbeat.

Still might be worth getting a look at next time I'm out there.

I'm curious how many times the documents mention maple syrup. :trollestia:

just saw something while watching a playlist. Is this the ,locomotive they use in KLF:Last Train To Transcentral?:trollestia:

Two awesome images :)

Ah ... I envy you. Riding on a steam train .... had that experience many, many years ago :) Have fun!

I have as well, although it's been quite a few years. I'm really looking forward to it.

No; wrong wheel arrangement (plus the locomotive in the music video is a model and looks European).

PM 1225 was used in Polar Express, but I think only for sound effects--IIRC, the movie was computer animated.

Dan

(Considering how badly the minigames are rigged against you, this music will likely make you want to strangle someone only slightly less than https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wL3boAkvkA4 where the minigames were just badly-implemented busywork)

4707966 I couldn't help myself and went looking if that engine actually exists... turns out it does (minus pegasus wings).
Siemens Vectron, in Deutsche Bahn's service since 2014.

And by the way, the 'Hbf' in 'Cloudsdale Hbf' means Hauptbahnhof (central station).

I figured it was modeled after a real European locomotive.

It kind of reminded me of the Swedish Astrom (I think) locomotives that got imported over here as the AEM-7s, affectionately nicknamed "Toasters."
