Ugh, I feel like I have a whole ton of balls in the air and they're all about to come down on my head at once. D: Well, I look forward to not having to deal with the show for another week, at least! Onward to Secrets and Pies!
I'm with Twilight: I don't think you can actually spritz ginger. <.< I do like the "art, not a science" angle Pinkie takes to baking, though.
Twilight knew where all those ingredients were and produced them in the time it took Pinkie to finish rattling them off. >.>
That whole bit with the chocolate bar (did she make chocolate milk in her mouth?) is one of Pinkie's all-time most adorable moments.
Spitfire, stop hitting on Dash, we've already established she likes Pinkie's pie best! :V (Okay, but what if that's the real conflict? XD)
"That's specific" goes from Twilight speaking for the audience to an excellent running gag that doesn't overstay its welcome. :)
This is Josh Hamilton's third outing after Parental Glideance and Triple Threat. Hmm, guess that puts him in the middle of the pack for success.
Seriously though, coming into this episode knowing what's going to happen, I'm impressed that Rainbow doesn't blow her own cover here. All those reactions appear genuine, and other than the "look over there!" you could be forgiven for thinking she actually ate the slice of pie. Also, I like how the "sensitive tortoise tummy" excuse actually ends up being a plot point.

That note to self. XD Also, I have to say that this episode at least makes better use of Pinkie's 'detective' skills than MMMystery on the Friendship Express. Like, I don't mind it reminding me of a terrible episode.
I'm glad they didn't leave the line about Cheerilee to just be a silly throwaway, but actually followed up on it.
Like someone said, this episode proves that ponies have evolved to consume extremely sugary foods.
I wish I could give Rainbow Dash more points for donating her pies to worthy causes. Like, she gives this yearly pie to the kids, and she sent those lemon meringues and the custard pie to other ponies, but the rest it seems she throws away or gives to Tank, who doesn't need them. The gratitude starts to break down.
The "conclusion" scene is one that I think could have been cut down for something, I dunno, interesting.
I'm extremely pleased AJ caught all those apples. :D

Am I the only one who also thinks it's weird that Applejack is in this scene, talking about pies, mentioning not a whit about how she, or at least her family, also make pies? <.<
Props to Ashleigh for this Evil Dash performance. :D This scene by itself is better than anything we got in the season premiere.

If there is one thing I like about this episode, it's that it gives us Rainbow Dash out-Pinkie-ing Pinkie Pie. Like, seriously, this is the kind of reaction other ponies usually have to her.
Can we all take a moment and soak in that Pinkie disobeyed Rule #1 (look both ways before crossing the runway!) and paid the price?

I also like how there's nothing sneaky about what Dash does here. She literally does not have to eat the pies to save Pinkie.

That slow-mo scene is brilliant.
It's funny, because it sounds like Pinkie is stark-raving mad, but we of course know she's 100% telling the truth and right about everything. What an unusual situation. Also the point where I stop appreciating Dash in this episode, because she's basically gaslighting Pinkie. :V Also the part where I have a legitimate reason to use the word 'gaslighting'.
I do like that Pinkie earlier established Rainbow is too stubborn for brainwashing. OH EXCEPT WHEN STARLIGHT'S INVOLVED
But yeah, this scene where Rainbow's complaining to Twilight and AJ? This is a "going through relationship problems" kind of monologue. It's so nice of the show to affirm this ship six seasons later. I guess Twilight has to shack up with Fluttershy now. :B
Side note, I'm pleased they kept Twilight and AJ to bit parts and didn't feel the need to include Rarity or Fluttershy in this episode as well. Episodes with large portions, but not all, of the mane six, tend not to happen.
Yeah, you should have eaten the pies in the first place… or told her you don't like pie. Any pie. Pinkie Pie is understanding, Rainbow Dash! :|

So yeah, other than the rampant ship fuel and some good jokes, I call this one of season 4's better slice of life episodes: something that won't have any impact on what came before or after it, whose entire import is based on how much you care about what Pinkie cares about. And I mean, everyone's in character, but what's the moral? Is lying good? Is lying to save someone's feelings? Should you avoid saving their feelings and always tell them what you think? I just don't know. 2.5/5

To be fair, that was direct mind control, not brainwashing. The propaganda hut in Our Town, that was brainwashing. And Dash proved too stubborn for it.
I would call her "Sassyjack" here, but that would imply she was cheating on Rarity.
I liked that no one was really, fully in the wrong here. I can see Rainbow lying to spare Pinkie's feelings and feeling forced to continue the lie for the same cause to the point of absurdity. I can see Pinkie being frustrated the gifts she'd been giving to her friend for *years* were not appreciated and often wasted. And of course, Applejack there as the stolid straight man in between them.
This won't stay with me or enter my top ten, but I've had worse Saturdays.
Use your imagination, PP. There is plenty of room in Pinkie's loft, the butt-monument castle, and Dash's sprawling cloud mansion to fit all three horses.

I was thinking about the comic last night, and came to the conclusion that it was somehow worse now because of what happened in the show, but then I got the Fresh Prince theme song stuck in my head (because chillaxing) and now I can't remember what I was thinking about. D:
This one was fun! But the pie-pipe to Tank seemed to pass through a lot of earth despite being part of Rainbow's cloud home and I have questions. Do clouds have rocky cores?! This could change everything!

As for AJ and the apples I don't think she ever says anything that implies they can't make pies and Pinkie can, just that she might like to use some apples to make some pies. This is in fact super obvious to the point she probably doesn't even need to say it. The real weird bit is Pinkie specifically mentions the flavors of the pies the first time a type shows up, but apple isn't one of them after she gets the apples. There are some generic pies that could be but it's almost like Pinkie never even uses the apples at all.
I put off this episode until after the finale because the premise sounded like weaksauce, but it was actually great!
This is the second or third time they've done that. Remember when he's in the hospital but doesn't have an apple brown betty by his bed? Now remember the 50x they said the words apple brown betty that episode for no reason? At least we saw him chowing down in Rarity investigaes. They also missed an opportunity to point out how happy PP made other random ponies happy with her pies, but if the biggest complaint of the episode is missed opportunities, it was a great episode.
