If you'd like to know why, and you're not a Patreon, check the front page. 
If you are a Patreon of Fimfiction, I am sorry. You cannot see all the funny ads that have been parodying one another on the front page, because Fimfiction chooses to punish you for supporting them. That is just the way it is.
But this is what you are missing.
NOTE: It doesn't work on mobile, you have to have adblock off and also the mature filter off. (But if you don't, you've been missing out on some amusing ads lately.)

If it makes no sense, it's probably because you also missed the long-running ad that said, "The average fimfic story has twice as many votes as comments. When was the last time you told an author why you liked their story?"

I realize in retrospect this only shows how determined I am to get to the top of the front page. 
So wait. I'm using adblock. Does this mean fimfic is back to having private ads? Remember that short time when any Pony Joe Schmoe could advertise here, and all the ads were just like some greasy neckbeard begging you to read their fanfiction?

I'd like to add that some people might need to turn on View Mature to see these ads. With the mature stories being filtered, I just saw basic ads, but when View Mature is on I see these hilarious ads. This might not be the case for everypony, but I don't know?

Actually, Fimfiction uses different ad companies depending on whether you have the filter on! Probably because Project Wonderful allows ads on mature content pages and AdChoices doesn't.

Every ad by PW has a link to the bidding page at the bottom of the ad, actually. If you can see the ad, then you can bid, which is kind of the point. If you can't even see the ad, you're probably not going to be enthusiastic about putting one up.
The PW ads only show up on non-mobile and if you have the M-filter off. (And Adblock off.)
