Review #66 - Starvation, Life and Death, Burning Day · 8:46pm Mar 2nd, 2017

Wow, I am getting really off schedule recently... I gotta work on that. Promotion time!

-Imperfect Stasis - A story by Mocha Star that is sadly hidden for how good it is. A simply wonderful Sci-fi fic. Read it.
-Queen of Queens - A story about changelings. A really deep, amazing story about changelings. Featured in The Royal Canterlot Library, on EQD, in The Royal Guard, and Twilight's Library. That is quite the accomplishment, and if you read it, you will see why it got there.
-The Witch by Calming Moon (Sometimes known as Moonie the Coyote).

Anyway, execute Order Review 66:

Starvation by Cloud Hop
Life and Death by Sapphire Rose 12
Burning Day by Emotional Flight

As always, I will put down my recommendations, but I truly hope that you to make the choice on whether to read a fic or not yourself.

Starvation by Cloud Hop
(Sad, Tragedy)
There is no more love. There is no more queen. There are only the silent echoes of a dying hive, as a lonely changeling, cut off from the hivemind, ponders the fate that has befallen his brethren.

Review
Whoa man, that is one dark tragedy. Like, wow. The main character, who is a changeling, is very unlike any other character I have read. He seems to know there is no hope for him, but he uses his determination to do one last thing, one last beautiful thing before death. He seems to be inspiring as well. This one is just incredibly deep, and, in some ways, gives me a differing thought on Changelings.

The greatest weakness of this one is that it seems rushed. It's pacing is just a little bit weird, and 500-ish more words would probably make it a lot better.

Recommendation: As it stands, Worth Reading. (That pacing issue just seems to overshadow all of its good parts).

Life and Death by Sapphire Rose 12
(Dark, Sad)
Life and Death are like oil and water. They don't have anything in common. What could Life possibly want to ask Death? Death has a surprising answer.

Review
This one is also a deep fic, though it does not have as much darkness as Starvation. Life, one of the characters, is understandably confused regarding the ponies relationship with her. All-in-all, Life is a great character for what the author uses her for. Death, however, is the oppisote of life. Most people, it seems, think of Death as cruel, greedy, evil, and/or lying all the time (I blame movies), where in this fic Death is honest, blunt, and oddly caring. I really like how the author went outside of expectations for this. In conclusion, Death and Life work as well together as Celestia and Luna do in Sisters are Aweful.

This one's greatest weaknesses tie: the tiniest bit short, but stil beautiful, and not really a My Little Pony fic.

Recommendation: Worth Reading for deep fic readers. (Because great deep fic, anything else and it is "bleh").

Burning Day by Emotional Flight
(Sad)
My name is Philomena.
I have held many other names, but this one has stood the test of time. I can still remember when she gave it to me, and that in itself is a testament to its importance. I must tell my story, before I once again forget.

Review
This one, too, is a deep fic. That's right, I am planning something. I bet you can't guess what it is. (Hint, check Review #64, and this one and look for a pattern. I will continue this pattern for awhile, I challenge you to figure it out at some point). Anyway, Philomena in this one is amazingy wonderful, and this is my new favorite characterization of her: smart, thoughtful, inocint (the young and unknowing kind), and caring. Amazing job, author, amazing job. Celestia, though an extremely minor character, seems almost like an optimal mother figure to Philomena, you know, caring, understanding, and altogether perfect for this fic. These are amazing characterizations that work well together to get the point of the story across, again, nice job.

It does, like most fics, have a few weaknesses. This one's greatest weakness is that it can be hard to follow due to it switching time periods every 10-ish paragraphs. This also makes it seem a bit shorter than it actually is.

Recommendation: Recommended. (Seriously, this is an amazing, if short, story).

Listening to this whilst writing, pretty awesome if you're into this style of music... just listen and find out if you like it before you render judgement.

My memory is hazy, but I think Queen of Queens made the top four or five in the EQD Outside Insight contest back in 2014. It deserved it, too, if not even higher. A superb changeling story, I totally agree!

Hmm...your reviews seem to be well done and we'll thought out....well then I hope one of my fics end up getting reviewed at some point.

I'd love it if that happened.

Lol, yeah... the current version is so very much better than the old one I had.

Totally seconded on Queen of Queens. A masterwork of a story. I'm gonna have to add those others to my reading list ...

Glad to know you like the new format too! I haven't been around as much to speak up but I do need to say: these reviews definitely feel much stronger, coherent and useful to me.
