Quick thing I'd like to say.
While it's a little blurry, I'm pretty sure the house marked as Rainbow Dash's place is a pagoda, a style of house originating in South and East Asia. Between this and Rainbow's penchant for overachieving (Captain of all the sports teams?), I've come to the conclusion that Rainbow is likely of Asian decent, possibly Japanese given it's the culture most used in media when utilizing an Asian backdrop.
What are your thoughts there?

4438722 I think you've mistaken a two-story house on a hill for a pagoda and gone a little nuts with your imagination. Plus, none of the EG characters are Asian. At all. Or black. Or Hispanic. Or Indian. Or anything else. They're just people.

The only problem I have with the map is how small the town looks. Canterlot High and Crystal Prep look like they're within walking distance.
It's probably just artistic license, though. I imagine that I'm not supposed to take it literally.

4438875 Wait, wait, I see where you're getting that from now. You mistook Crystal Prep for CHS on that map. Look again. The school 2 blocks from Twi's place is Crystal Prep. CHS is to the northwest, between Rarity's and RD's places.

I see now... though really, that just raises further questions. Didn't they establish that Crystal Prep was in another city? Which I guess in this case means that incongruous cluster of skyscrapers nestled amongst the mountains?
4438946 Crystal Prep was described by Dash as "in the city". The map obviously is a simple map to give the general idea of where everything is, meaning that Crystal Prep and Twilight's house may actually be closer to the Manehattan style skyline than it looks.

4438946 No, they said Twilight got off a bus "from the city" and got back on a bus "to the city". Meaning CHS is out in the suburbs or on the outskirts of town. Notice how the roads and buildings are more spaced out around CHS? That would support CHS is in a suburb.

4439008 Oh, the map is a simplification, certainly. It looks about as detailed as a SimCity game. :) There's a lot it's leaving out, and I'm sure to anyone on the ground, the city and suburbs are enormous.

I'm surprisingly disappointed with this. Despite it not being to scale (hopefully) what this did was take all of the parts of Equestria and cram them together. Canterlot, Manehattan, and the crystal empire as the larger city parts, Ponyville, The Everfree Forest as a nearby area, and Starlight's village in the center lower left , or maybe that last one was just a storage lot but either way that doesn't leave much
