    Device Heretic

At Everfree, helping SPark vend plushes. Come by and see, get a round pony blob, or a bat!

Pony Feather has a booth here, and actually got ahold of device heretic to publish Eternal, which is my first great fic love on this site. I'm amazed. Gobsmacked.

    Shit Works, Yo

I wasn't trying to crash-test the vaccine, but the dummy survived this time. Antigen test and PCR test (separate swabs, 3 days after exposure as recommended) both say no plague. What was the scratchy throat? Iunno. Not plague, apparently.

    A Hollow Place

I was re-reading a fabulous story tonight-- Celestia Plays Dice with the Universe, by the inimitable and wonderful Cynewulf, who I have been privileged to call a friend.

    An Oregon Christmas Carol

I'm dreaming of a wet Christmas
Just likes the ones I've always known
    Where the pavement glistens
    And children listen
To songs that promise Christmas snow

I'm dreaming of a wet Christmas
As all my days pass in a storm
May your days be happy and charmed
And may all your Christmases be warm

    Alicornization

    This one is JediMasterEd's fault.

Psychic spies in chitin try to steal your mind's elation
And little girls across the world dream of rainbow deflagrations
And if you stand for all of these things it's Alicornization

It's the crown of the world and all of equine civilization

I wrote a eulogy for my cat on this blog once, and one for my favorite author. I don't yet have the refined words for this one, so I'll make it brief.

My dad fell off a ladder on the 21st and landed on his head on concrete. He fractured his skull and bruised the ever-living hell out of his brain. Over this last weekend, it became clear in CT scans that the majority of his brain was severely damaged. Tonight, we had the hospital take him off the ventilator, and his body died a bit over an hour later, which was about an hour and a half ago. Really, though, he's been dead for over a week.

So hug your loved ones, and be fucking careful on ladders. And thanks for listening--it's good just to say it all out loud.

...That... Is rough.

My condolences, man. If I had anything more insightful to say, I'd say it.

~Skeeter The Lurker

Well that blows, my condolences.

My condolences and I am sorry for your loss

I am terribly sorry for your loss. I can only imagine the feelings you must be experiencing.

Loss is something we all experience differently, so take your time with it.

My thoughts are with you and yours.

My deepest condolences.

I am so sorry.

The last enemy that shall be defeated. It's hard to hold and it hurts. But you can.

Just hearing from folks is surprisingly helpful, so thank you.

4279877
It does. Thank you.

Not to be more morbid than necessary, but I hope it's something you only have to imagine for a good long while yet. 0/10 would not recommend.

4279996
Thanks.

And thank you, too.

I like to think that Death would relish one day being defeated. Have a nice retirement. Tend his bees.

We're holding. Having a baby is actually incredibly nice at a time like this. You can't help but smile back when a baby smiles at you, or laugh when they're ridiculous (which is often). I can't, anyway.

Oh man, I am so sorry! It's never easy to lose someone so close to you, and to have it be so sudden... just awful. I wish I could say anything that would help. Take care.

SHIT man, I mean Jesus D:
I'm sorry to hear that man. Damn.

My mother and aunt had to make the same call for their father after he tripped on a cord in his hospital room and cut open his head. It absolutely blows to have to decide that, but sometime it's what you gotta do.

My prayers are with you guys.

Thanks. This is what I meant when I said life had bitten me on the ass really hard, incidentally. I like doing the editing. It's normal.

I am very firm with myself that it was the right call. One of the CT cross sections showed the bruising across probably 2/3 of his brain. There was just nothing left, nowhere left forhim to be in. He was gone, it was just a matter of formalizing it.

And thank you.

Yeah man you made the right call. It's what I would have done.

One thing we all have in common is that sooner or later, we all lose someone. Allow me to add my condolences to the others'. Be strong, and remember that even relative strangers are giving moral support.

I just saw this now. I have no words to express what you must be going through. It is one thing to have life snatched from someone; it is another to preside over the truth of the matter.

My condolences. Thanksgiving will probably be very different for you this year... I will keep your family in my prayers. Time heals all wounds, but I suspect there are some we hope never fully heal. Hope you're all doing as well as can be expected.

Talking helps, particularly when people talk back. Thank you.

Time heals all wounds, but sometimes we remain fond of the scar. Thank you.

Damn. I didn't see this post until now. That's awful. Gravity is stronger than people think. Falling is the 2nd-most common cause of accidental death in the US.

He was just about to turn 71 and still running our roofing company, up and down ladders every day. We had been arguing with him that he needed to ease up one of these days, and lo. Throw another one onto the "being right doesn't help" pile.

Thanks for your thoughts and words.
