I'm not a brony. If you're here wondering why my comments suggest I have no idea what happens in canon, that's why. I'm not kidding....I mean, I hope someone was wondering why my avatar was a train...

And Evening Was, and Morning... · 6:11am Aug 28th, 2017

I saw this in an article recently. It is not mine. I thought it was an interesting perspective to take.

I Wake to Close the Morning

Why do people keep asking to see

God’s identity papers

when the darkness opening into morning

is more than enough?

Certainly any god might turn away in disgust.

Think of Sheba approaching

the kingdom of Solomon.

Do you think she had to ask,

“Is this the place?”

A simple nerd who likes going around making others happy.

And I can't remember, this is a late reply, lol 🤓

Who are you and how did you find my profile?

2387658

as to your quick question about what made me follow you, well it's because we both love the same thing and that is Trains :3

Well, what I was really asking was how you came across my page. It's not like I do stories or even blog posts, and my reviews on this site are pretty sparse lately, mostly because I feel I'm in over my head (I can't comment on characterization of Cast characters, for instance, because I don't know how they behave in canon).

2387344 yep. :)

btw, I'm starting a group called Fire Up Frisco 1522! the most important goal for this group is to have Frisco 1522 run again for a 3rd time along with two VERY important goals:

1. still be the only 4-8-2 Mountain Type to operate in the U.S.
2. keep her title as "The Loudest Steam Locomotive in the World"!

why that second goal? well, it's because when Frisco 1522 was operating during her 2nd career, whenever she went up steep grades, she did a LOUD sharp exhaust bark when going up steep grades, hence why railfans called the Frisco 1522: "The Loudest Steam Locomotive in the World"

as to your quick question about what made me follow you, well it's because we both love the same thing and that is Trains :3

oh and btw, it's SLSF, not SFSL :twilightsheepish:

2386865 Ooh, you learn something new every day! I wasn't aware that a 4-8-2 was called the Mountain type, though in retrospect it makes sense.

Neat engine, though it's sad they had to retire it again for prohibitive insurance costs. Hadn't heard of it before you showed it to me. I find it funny that it served on the San Francisco-St. Louis (SFSL) railroad but the line ended more than 1000 miles from San Francisco, but I guess name inertia beats out track realities?

Quick question: not that I mind, but what made you follow me?

nice train picture! I have loved Trains ever since I was a little kid! :D

my favorite Steam Locomotive is this one -----> https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1557/25808285372_2bbb4bdfe2_b.jpg

Hey, thanks for the follow. It's great to see you're enjoying my writing

1968428 Riiight....

OK. I mean, the point of the "bio" was that I have not watched the show beyond the first 3 episodes. I couldn't sit through it. So sue me.

And trains vs. people. Why am I not surprised at the outcome? 185lbs vs 900-2500 tons of moving steel....I'd be surprised if there was even a bump. Noisy, perhaps, but hardly affects the ride, no?

Little known fact, China, Russia, and India all still regularly operate steam trains, and the latter did on mainline service until 2000. None of these nations use them for passenger service anymore, though. Most often, outside of heritage railways, they are used in industrial applications, where labor is cheap and fuel is plentiful.

But I didn't come here looking for train facts. and those were, quite frankly.......... odd.

Train facts: trains win all train on people collisions. I actually am from a town originally built around train tracks and stuff you'd think I would know something. A symbol of Madison? A big red caboose. I know that those are involved with trains. So two train facts.

I'm not a staff member in any way... I'm just a guy who greets the new members he comes across. I had a hard time of it when I got started and made a lot of mistakes. I just try to be the guy I wish I had met when I got started.

Hey... anything is possible. They've built entire replica steam engines in Britain, so trying to recreate an early diesel isn't out of the question. There are still some actual F-series engines out there that could stand to be restored as well. All it takes is time, love, and a heap of cash.:raritywink:

1830238 Leave it to me to throw up a train avatar and end up getting welcomed to the site by the one dude (pseudo staff member?) that's not only a railfan, but who's also got the Milwaukee Road among his list of favorite rail companies.

lol. As an aside, I think it would be totally cool if I could one-day make a life-size working replica of either the A or the F7 class locomotives. A pipe dream, sure, but how sweet would it be...

I'm a life-long railman, and the Milwaukee Road is one of my favorite Western lines. I was sort of hoping that you were a railfan too, as you seemed to be wondering if anybody would ask why you chose a train as your avatar in your bio. You're welcome to stop by The Guild of Equestrian Railroaders and say introduce yourself, if you like.

1828743 I can't tell if you knew that off the top of your head and are just showing off, or if you did an image search and are addressing my apparent inability to comprehend bronies knowing about more than just MLP. Obviously I am aware of what that is.

Either way, thanks for the welcome. I'm still not sure what to say about the avatar comment though.

Hello there! Welcome to FIMFiction.

If you need any help figuring out how the site works, don't be afraid to ask. I'm always happy to help, and we're all glad that you are here!

Your avatar is a Milwaukee Road Class A "Atlantic" locomotive of the 4-4-2 wheel arrangement. There were only four in the class, and they were built from 1935-1937. They were sued to pull the fastest scheduled trains in the world at the time; the Chicago-Milwaukee "Hiawathas." They survived up until the end of steam on the Milwaukee Road, being scrapped in 1949-1951.
