I don't know what you're talking about, I've always looked like this.

Big Brother is Dead, Long Live Big Brother · 11:45pm Jul 20th, 2016

So JBL's potatotop is superdead.

This blog is basically asking for you guys' suggestions for a new laptop as he is busy shopping around. Currently chipped in my two cents as well as a few others but he's looking for options. The only caveats are that it needs to shippable to Trinidad & Tobago and costs less than $1,000 US Dollars.

Can you help our friendly neighbourhood Goose Stepper out?

My Acer Aspire V Nitro Black Edition from NewEgg was just over a grand, and it is sick.

JBL lives in a former Spanish colony off the coast of Venezuela

I'm not even surprised

it would probably be significantly easier to buy in america and have it shipped to tobago with a third party shipping company

but if he doesn't wanna trust those chaps he could order an inspiron 5000 from dell, its not a bad work computer and at $641 its not OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive

http://www.dell.com/tt/p/inspiron-15-5559-laptop/pd?oc=la_i5559_i5t81tsw10s_3d_5_1605_2319_r&ref=PD_OC

honestly though I don't know nearly as much about computers as i would like to, just doing my best to help a fellow goose stepper out

In the states you can walk into a bestbuy and get a workable laptop for $300. Its not gonna be good for gaming, but it'll play videos and run word/other typing program. Also full of bloatware, but hey, $300 bucks.

Shipped... Yeah, newegg is your best bet for cheap and decent.

Honestly at $1000 bucks, you aren't going to have a lot of variety, but I'd stick to toshiba, asus, msi, and maybe lenovo brands, they tend to have at least a decent reliability these days.

Also try direct at the microsoft store if they ship there, no bloatware only windows, and very good prices, got mine there.

The twenty dollar game I bought him went on sale for eight dollars the week after.

Also I am now King of the editors.

I bought a laptop once.

Never used it.

I would go with the linked Dell, I would also think about purchasing an aftermarket SSD. A 500 GB Samsung 850 Evo can be had for $200 to $300, and should be very easy to install to this computer. It would add a lot of speed, and make it significantly more robust. The single most common failed part on laptops is the hard drive. After you install the SSD, you can spend $15 on an external enclosure, put the old hard drive from the laptop into that, turning the old internal hard drive into an external hard drive. Check YouTube to see how to remove the hard drive from that Dell.

The starving Tobago children need it more than you.

When Windows 8 came out, I took a chance and gave up on Microsoft operating systems. I bought a linux laptop from System76 -- a Gazelle Pro for about $900. That particular product line has since dropped to a base price of around $700. If he's willing to run Windows apps in Wine or a virtual machine or install windows himself, it's really the way to go. They've got great performance for their prices.

Ah, so that's why he wen't offline for a week.

It really boils down to what he intends to use it for.

Ok, this is a nightmare IMHO.

His Best bet, paranoically speaking, is forwarding the cash to someone in the states who will physically courier it to TnT, because the best prices are available to those in the USA, while shipping to TnT in any reasonable time frame might cost as much or more than personally flying there.

As for backing this up with facts, i don't even know where to start researching safe shipping to TnT.

Oh, wait.

4103823 well the few we had a look at, Lenovos, MSI and ASUS were gaming computer laptops anything can run MS office so obviously he's looking for a potatotop that can at least run minecraft with full settings.

Does he not like asking for donations? I'm sure a few of us would be willing to help him get a decent computer

Multiply the cost by 2, and divide that result by 100, and you get the number of years this computer runs...on average.

It may not be the most perfect gaming laptop, but by god will it tickle your pickle. Especially if you treat it right.

4103710 (Just request Windows 8.1 and clean install up to Windows 10. It removes almost all of the bloatware. After, just go into the control settings and manually remove the garbage. Easy as pie.)

4103767 Those greedy orphans don't need anything from me.

4103739 I got one too! It broke, so they "fixed" it. Hardware works great, too bad they wiped all the software and drivers.... I could get some recovery disks, but that would require motivation I currently lack.

As for helpful advice... I don't know. Shipping is probably going to be the limiting factor.

Also, not sure potato batteries are quite up to the capacity of Lithium-Ion yet. Though I think they are less prone to exploding.

I've got a MacBook Pro.

Fuckin' kill me, right?

4103829 i have the star wars dark side laptop. clicky link stets are GeForce 940M Intel Core i7-6500 CPU @ 2.50GHz 8.00 GB RAM 7.84 GB usable 1920 x 1080, 60Hz has an SSD

You sir are a terrible person.

Yeah sure, but if I'm getting a simple computer to play flash videos in the living room I don't bother with killing the bloatware.

Sorry man, but I have such jack shit luck with my own computer replacement (I lost it about year ago.) So I doubt I would be of any help.

Psssh, good luck. I'm trying to find a 'work' laptop under 500 bones. I'll jut stick with my dinosaur for a bit longer.

I got a cheapo Toshiba for when I absolutely have to be away from my desktop - but seriously, I can't imagine being without a good desktop system.
