I don't know what you're talking about, I've always looked like this.

About that job. · 5:13pm Aug 31st, 2022

Well, I actually fucking got it. Been working for the past three weeks at my first proper job in years, and I have even better news than that.

I finally, after a decade of much struggle, finally succeeded in getting into the Institute of Professional Legal Studies, which is required after acquiring a degree in Law in order to fully qualify as a solicitor in my region. Got the acceptance letter Last Wednesday and signed off. Now just need to register with the University as a student, sort out my tuition and send the Commencement letter signed by my master to get everything squared away and over the course of the next two years I'll finally become a solicitor.

To make a complicated story short: becoming a solicitor in Northern Ireland works on a Master-Apprentice system, working alongside university education. You need a degree in law before hand (granting the title of LLB or LLM if you did a Master's degree) Once obtained, you sit an entrance exam to the Institute in December, and if you pass you are placed on an order of merit (there are only so many places available to train new solicitors each year). Where you only raise higher or lower on the order of merit come the following June when all the baby lawyers get their degrees. (meaning you can sit the entrance exam prior to your own graduation to get the wheels going early). The deciding factor in actually obtaining a place, usually, (and the Institute will flat out tell you this), is obtaining a Solicitor or Barrister who agrees to be your master, signing a contract, and getting all your shit in early.

Over the past decade I have sat and passed that damn exam multiple times but have never been able to secure a master. And I'm not about to go into the reasons why (Long story short, its 2008's fault, I was fucked the year I went into University).

The job I work at now, is at the same firm as my master, so these few weeks prior to starting my course properly have been good experience, but I'd be lying if I said it hasn't been draining.

"But Handyman, you fucker, where's the chapters?"

I dunno, ask future Handyman. I kid, I am working on them, but I have been dredging up the mental energy to do it and its coming slow.

Just what those poor fuckers in your part of the world need, a Handyman who's allowed to enter a courtroom as something other than a defendant :rainbowlaugh:.

But seriously, congratulations. I've been following you for a few years now, and been witness to your frustrations in regards to this, and how much impact it's had on your life as a whole. It's good to see that you're finally able to take the first steps to getting it handled to your satisfaction.

So very happy for you my friend, praise God. You're still in my daily prayers!
