We're back... but it's likely slow going.

So, in answer to the MANY people who keep asking when i'm going to update any of my fics despite my having a blog that explains WHY they've ALL been left unupdated over the last 3-4 months, my library is open again, so i should be able to finally get back to writing.

A few gripes i have with On Your Marks and Gauntlet of Fire · 6:43am Apr 21st, 2016

i'll like to say something that bugs me about the last two episodes of season 6. In On Your Marks, it showed Apple Bloom trying to find things she could do without the other crusaders being involved during a song sequence. During said sequence, one of the things she tried to do was painting and she was failing at it.

:ajbemused:

Really? Really?

Painting? Something we've seen Bloom do throughout the show and, not only enjoy, but is really good at and now i'm expected to beleive that, suddenly, her skills in that craft vanished to leave her with that pathetic art piece of Tree Hunger that i would have expected more from Sweetie Belle?

:unsuresweetie:

Sorry, honey, but you're really not that good at it and i'm going to Sugarcoat it (and you all better get that reference).

I really hate beating on details, but this is one i just couldn't overlook with Apple Bloom, when she's been shown to be so good with that kind of thing in the past.

My second grip is during the latest episode. Why? When Garble had Twilight and Rarity cornered and Twilgiht looked terrified about what he'd do to them, you know what i wasn't thinking? "Oh, no! Twi and Rarity are in trouble. Ember or Spike, save them!"

No, what i was thinking was, "Seriously, Twilight?! You're an Alicorn! A fucking Alicorn and the Element of MAGIC! Why the hell are you scared of this full of himself teenage dragon?! You can trounce him!"

Seriously, it's like Twilight forgot she's an Alicorn in that moment. She could've flown herself and Rarity away or simply blasted the idiot dragon who DIDN'T NOTICE AN ALICORN PRINCESS WAS STANDING IN FRONT OF HIM in the face, showing him ponies are not the push-overs he has deluded himself into believing!

*takes a deep breath, then lets it out*

Okay, got that off my chest. Sorry for the rant.

Now, since that's over, i shall post the next chapter of the fic tagged to this blog. Hope it is enjoyed.

Later everypony

I never really took notice of Apple Blooms painting, but that second one about Twilight being an alicorn yet never utilizes her magic really bugged me, just like the fact that nopony seems to acknowledge her status unless the episode calls for it. It's almsot like the show runners and writers know alicorn magic can be a deus ex machina and so for extra drama they make Twilight as useless as rotten cardboard.

I get what you mean with Twilight.
Maybe she can't combat/lift a creature if it's smaller than a house.
Who knows? Maybe they're keeping with the... um... Blagh!
I have just theories of technically trespassing and political stuff. Or maybe Hasbro just doesn't want her to be a hero anymore. Maybe She's going to be the bumbling scholar-politician who does't contribute anything to the story besides occasional deus ex machina?
Maybe she's a quest giver who is also an escort mission with bad path-finding AI. :facehoof:
I don't know what they were thinking or why, but this is what they give us now.

Maybe She's going to be the bumbling scholar-politician who does't contribute anything to the story besides occasional deus ex machina?

So, bascially Celestia

3885915 a person's mood can either positively or negatively affect the quality of their work, especially when it comes to art. I didn't see it as a contradiction in her abilities so much as an example of her current state of mind being that no matter what she tried, she received no enjoyment from it because of the misunderstanding with her friends. And with art, if you don't have that "spark" going into it you will fail 9 times out of 10.

Also, the episode was really well done in my opinion. It had a very strong message about what it means to grow up. How people you once felt as close to as family can gradually slip away from you as you become older. The episode also illustrated how someone can get so stuck on the nostalgia of their past that they become oblivious to the people around them. Rather then moving forward and developing new connections with new people, they become stuck in a state of stagnation, unable to break away from the happier days of their past, and in so doing, shut themselves off to the better days that could lie ahead of them if only they had the courage to take that first step forward.

And yet these are still the two best episodes of the current season. Granted there is so much else to still gripe about with these episodes, and I'm trying to remember when the last time Applebloom was painting. My real grip about Gauntlet of Fire though was that it was a Spike episode where he was still stuck in a supporting role instead of being the star of it. Every one he starred in he turns into a complete joke yet when he is in a supporting role he is at his best.

Academically Twilight is smart, but In the realm of common sense? Shes still lacking. Hence why she probably thought hiding as a rock was a good idea.

Twilight is prone to panic attacks, and when a dragon is staring you down, i think most people would have a panic attack, especially a prey type species. It's the deer in the headlights scenario

Yeah, another thing that I was really urked about with Apple Bloom. She loves mixing potions with Zecora, so why not go and help her concoct something. Like an actual love potion, and not poison. But don't use it on Big Mac and Cheerilee.

As for "The Gauntlet of Fire", I totally agree with how Twilight could have used her Alicorn magic. I mean, she battle Lord Tirek for neighing out load. And don't even get me started on how both, if not just one, could have gone "Super Element" and dealt with him right on the spot. Also, Luna and Celestia said that they are usually called to avert a crisis.... a crisis that they have "The Council of Friendship" handle when opportunity knocks.

Luna: Hey I actually try to persuade auntie Tia to let me help.

Me: Eeep! Sowwy Mama. But you gets what I mean. *Continues typing.*

And really?..... the Dragon Lands, which I think used to be labeled the "Badlands", are dangerous for ponies. Your bloomin alicorns for Faust sake. They wouldn't last a minute against alicorn magic. I mean look at Flurry Heart.

Also, I was disappointed more wasn't revealed about actual Dragon Culture, it just leaves us with more questions. Like "Why is Spike the only dragon so far without wings?" And "Who are Spike's Parents?" Come on Hasbro, feed us some more information.

But that's enough of my rant about those episodes.

Meh, it's not really a surprise, the series has been falling since season 5, except a couple episodes of season 5 like the begining and the ending, it was from bad to worse. The season 1-3 was very good, the 4, so-so but the alicorn Twilight helped, but after the season 5, it was degrading itself.

how much we know about the dragons in FIM? There's too many "I/We don't knows " factors in play, for example, are they weak to magic( because low resistance/special defence) or their resistance is high enought that make magic attacks no good idea?:applecry: among others.

My idea on the whole 'Apple Bloom not being able to do crafts' is that she can't. We see her doing more construction which is where I think her talent lies. Construction and crafts are two totally different things. Have a person that built/repaired a house and then give them a Pinterest craft for them to do. They will probably fail at it.
