The Pony Next Door by HapHazred
Wow, first story in and I already have a contender for a spotlight! I admit, I may be a bit biased on this one for the simple reason that it emulates (unknowingly on the authors part, which in a sense makes it all the more impressive) one of my favourite styles of writing - Magic Realism. For those of you who don't know what that is, all you need to know is that this is a wonderful story about a human and Princess Celestia making friends. I know, that premise is absurd - but that's what makes it so wonderful.
The Mare Who Once Lived On The Moon
This story pushes aaaaaall of the right buttons for me. (Well written) Alternate universe take on the Mane 6? Check. Steampunk? Check. Brilliant characterisation of these slightly-different-and-yet-still-the-same-characters? Check. Fascinating world-building? Check. Absolutely rip-roaringly brilliant narrative ? Check.
I would say more, but I'm too busy desperately checking for a new chapter.
Records Of An Academy Disaster by Fahrenheit
I'm just going to leave my comment on the story here.
This was amazing.
I already knew you were a great writer, but I think you've cemented yourself as one of my absolute favourites. I've seen these letter stories, and stories about everything going tits up in a remarkably short period of time, before - but never done this absolutely perfectly.
My god, this is glorious.
No Escape From Yourself by alarajrogers
Have I recommended an alarajrogers fic before? Because I really should have - they're one of my favourite authors, and this shows exactly why. This is Discord, and frankly every other character, done right. Add into that mix a compelling narrative about Discord's struggles with his inner demons post-S4 finale, and you have something very special.
You Gotta Fight by Bookish Delight
I'm going to resist the urge to make an outdated musical reference here (although I totally failed to do so in the comment section of this story), and simply say that this is yet another brilliant characterisation of Rainbow Dash from Bookish, along with an interesting look at EqG Luna. You really can't go wrong with this one (unless you harbour a burning hatred for EqG, in which case, uh, I'm sorry?).
Grey by Foehn
How the hell have I missed a writer this good for this long? This has been here since the start of February, and I completely missed it!
Anyway, this is damn near perfect prose that I refuse to spoil for you. Go read it.
A Tale Told by Foehn
See above. Not going to spoil this for you either, just go and read it.
Our Mother's Wish by NorsePony
I have a great love of creation myths, and if you enjoy them to any extent this is something you should read. It may be short, but it's exactly as long as it needs to be, and is a fantastic take on griffon mythology.
Carol by JawJoe
Perhaps this one is a little out of season, but it doesn't stop it from being a wonderful little story, and one unafraid to tackle complicated subjects simply. Definitely worth reading.
The Sun, The Moon, and The Hunt by Pearple Prose
Wow. Just wow. This is brilliant worldbuilding around a species I'd never even heard of (and I look up mythological creatures just for fun). Go give this fantastic (if a little unnerving) story some love - maybe it will update faster if you do!
"Cumin," Sighed Rainbow Dash by GroaningGreyAgony
To quote myself:
This was the best set up for a terrible pun I have ever seen.
An Eventide Lament by GroaningGreyAgony
This is a rather short piece, but it does exactly what it sets out to do, and tells a chillingly story in the process - chilling because it's very easy to envision happening. Certainly well worth the time it will take you to read it.
Riverdream At Sunset: A Manuscript by GroaningGreyAgony
I have no words to accurately describe how gorgeous this story is - instead, I suggest you see for yourself in the words of the work itself. Go, read it.
Spotlight Review is here.
I see you've discovered GroaningGreyAgony.
