    Watch (This) Space

    Hello everyone!

I've been gone on hiatus for a few years. I stopped watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in the middle of the seventh season. But a few months ago, my interest was rekindled. And the last two seasons were fantastic. The high point, for me, is the new characters -- the Student Six -- who breathed fresh life into the show.

Anna Jarvis, the woman who organized the first Mother's Day observances and who later spent her life fighting the growing commercialization of the day, meant for Mother's Day to be a day of reverence, a time for each person to spend with or remember his or her own mother. The holiday is not meant to celebrate all mothers, but to be a personal day of thanks.

I want to encourage you to take today to do so, as the day of observance was originally intended. Even those of you who have not been blessed with the best of mothers should take time today to be thankful for the best mother you've ever had.

I encourage you, if you can, to find some time to spend with your mother today. Avoid the commercial and perfunctory gifts of seasonal candies and sappy cards, and make the tribute more personal. True, for most of us physical visits may not be possible. But give her a phone call. Or spend some time with her through the internet. And if there is no way to contact her, or if she is no longer with us to be contacted, then set aside a portion of your day just to honor her in your thoughts and memories.

Our time is too short, and we should treasure what little we are given to spend with our friends and loved ones.

One of the strongest themes in Little Gloom's story (first mentioned in my Thank You, Plus Pony Music blog) was family. The character was an orphaned filly who was adopted by one of the other characters in that game, Cloud Dancer. The love of her adopted mother, and her reciprocal love, saved Little Gloom from the wasteland. Many of the songs she would spontaneously break into were about her new mother. Today, I wanted to share one more:

"Saved by Family"
by Little Gloom
to the tune of "Galaxies" by Owl City

Click off the pre-sets, drop down the turret,
And let the plasma bolts fly!

Forget your dumb bombs, you went and crossed mom,
Now kiss your glyph marks goodbye!

Princess, I was full of despair
Cuz the ponies don’t care,
And zebras went bad.
But thank You for the best mom ever!
And the best friends I’ve had!

Fight back the sorrow,
Look t’words tomorrow,
Let the party commence

Summon the DJ,
Pump up the bass play,
And wub your eardrums to bits.

Oh, Luna’s moon,
Keep shining on your little Gloom,
Light my way, keep me safe in my wasteland home.
Broken wastes, you’re now helpless to torment me,
And I won’t be blinded by what I see.
For I have the warm embrace of my family!

Geez, I panicked for a moment before I realised my country's Mother's Day was back in the middle of March.

Our Mother's Day isn't until last sunday of May. Guess that's when I go to my Mum's grave and give her roses like I do every year.

Mother's Day is nothing but a marketing ploy. Why would anyone need one specific day to show their love for their mother? You either do it every single day, or not at all...

Any excuse to make for a party is good enough for me. :pinkiehappy:

its mothers day in britain before easter so i don't have to worry

Mother's Day has its roots in the work of Ann Reeves Jarvis and Julia Ward Howe; Mother's Day was founded by A.R. Jarvis' daughter, Anne Jarvis, in memorial of her mother.

A.R. Jarvis had organized "Mothers’ Day Work Clubs" to teach local women how to properly care for their children in the years prior to the American Civil War. In the years that followed the war, the Mother's Day Work Clubs became a unifying force in the war-divided country, bringing together grieving mothers from both Union and Confederate sides. Julia Howe later wrote the "Mother's Day Proclamation", a call to action to mothers for promoting world peace. She pushed for a "Mother's Peace Day" national holiday.

After her mother's death, Anna Jarvis campaigned for the nationalization of a "Mother's Day" holiday. She argued that national holidays were biased towards male achievements, and pushed for a holiday recognizing the sacrifices that mothers made for their children.

Anna's efforts paid off when U.S. President Woodrow Wilson officially made "Mother's Day" a national holiday. Unfortunately for her, the holiday proved to have vast commercial potential. Anna Jarvis spent the rest of her life fighting the commercialization of Mother's Day -- a fight that left her bankrupt and psychologically broken. She died in a sanitarium, penniless.

Same story as every other holiday, hence why I'm not a big fan of them.

Well... except the "day off" bit with some of them, like how 3058762 pointed out. I enjoy that bit. :duck:

Ah, El Dio de Madres. I'm not far from my mother, so I'm taking her to see the Avengers. If it was anyone on earth who made me into a giant pony-watching Star Trek merchandise-buying neeeeerrrd, it was her.

I didn't really want to think about my mother today. She's a physically, verbally, and emotionally abusive jerk.

Oh well.

We generally celebrate it on the 15th of August, matching the religious holiday of the Assumption of Mary. That's a specific Antwerp tradition though, not a national one :moustache:

I made her a little video to when she wants.:pinkiehappy:

We also do celebrate it on a different date. And For me, I can't really celebrate this day as my mother is...

Let's just say she's a monster in a human's skin. I don't think mothers are like this, don't get me wrong, It's just mine that is this way. I often celebrate my father's existance on that day as he was always both parents to me.

I hope most of you guys have a better feelings on that day's celebration and I wish you and your mothers the best of wishes ^_-

Wish I could celebrate mothers day...:ajsleepy:
My life sucks.

A Poem By A Leaving Son— by Meng Jiao

孟郊《游子吟》
慈 母 手 中 线,
游 子 身 上 衣。
临 行 密 密 缝,
意 恐 迟 迟 归。
谁 言 寸 草 心,
报 得 三 春 晖。

The thread in the hands of a fond-hearted mother
Makes clothes for the body of her wayward boy;
Carefully she sews and thoroughly she mends,
Dreading the delays that will keep him late from home.
But how much love has the inch-long grass
For three spring months of the light of the sun?

And here I read your relate about Anna Jarvis... a day after Mother's Day, and just the day after reading out of curiosity of the origins of said holiday. A shame her passion drove her to such an end. Though I do appreciate mother's day in it's purest form, as I come from a mixed family and my biological sisters have a grudge against my mother. Thankfully for me, the one day we all put our pasts behind and truly appreciate our mother (and go out for dinner), is, well... mother's day of course. Thanks for the homage to all mothers out there.

But my mother is crazy as shit, and a shitty person.

3063683 Then honor the person who acted like a real mother to you.
